Nuf said, I amPre ordering my copy today, and also how lush is that librarian :D

Itkovian - August 17, 2009 08:44 AM (GMT)
I have to say, the models look gorgeous, but the "3D Terrain!" was a bit misleading...

Arden Fell - August 17, 2009 09:50 AM (GMT)
Yeah!

My old stomping ground is back.

My god those figures look good thou compared to the originals.

Are they definatly part of the boxset? Love the pointing termi.

Iacton - August 17, 2009 10:11 AM (GMT)
Let's steal some bandwidth, chaps and get something worth looking at... :ph43r:

WHOA!!! those terminators look awsome!

I hope GW bring out new squad of termis like these! The current ones look really pants in comparison!

Itkovian - August 17, 2009 10:56 AM (GMT)
I doubt it, considering how new the current ones are - and how long it took them to do it last time...

I thought it was supposed to be a chapter that hadn't been seen before though - they look pretty convincingly like Blood Angels to me...

The Red Sorcerer - August 17, 2009 11:18 AM (GMT)
Crikey. Those models are jaw-droppingly awesome. I've never played Space Hulk, but I have to admit I'm seriously tempted to buy this, particularly given its limited release - I always had a soft spot for the Blood Angels, and those termis look like they will be great fun to paint up. The broodlord looks amazing too, nice and evil.

Hmmm. Not sure I can justify the expense tho. Maybe if I ebay my old squats, should cover it...

Been a long time since I saw something from GW that screamed 'BUY ME' to quite such an extent, particularly surprising its this considering I'm an Epic/Warhammer fella rather than a 40K one...

Arden Fell - August 17, 2009 11:39 AM (GMT)
Oh man I want these now.

Love the objective marker of the dead Termi on the throne and the base details on the Genestealers

ShroudFilm - August 17, 2009 11:46 AM (GMT)
Holy carps... that is one seriously tasty boxed set! I'm a MASSIVE fan of Space Hulk, always have been - this is on my shopping list for sure!

If it isn't Mail Order only, I should be able to get people a discount on these...

According to the articles on the GW site, it comes with two 5 man termi squads, a Librarian and a Chaplain with storm shield and thunder hammer.

Iron Corsair - August 17, 2009 01:27 PM (GMT)
I'm really disappointing that I don't have the money to buy one. I've only got about fifty dollars, and I won't be getting anymore for a while. :( And by the time I do, they will all be gone. :(

ShroudFilm - August 17, 2009 03:11 PM (GMT)
I can hold one for you if you put down a deposit and are happy to pay the actual shipping cost?

BigWill - August 17, 2009 03:42 PM (GMT)
I just pre-ordered mine through the website this morning
And I plan on buying two more through my indie.
I plan on painting one as Blood Angels, the second I am not sure leaning toward the fists.
And the third gets saved.

I am also going to start making plastic versions of the cardboard tiles.
And I will work on the Justaerin again soon.
I am also tempted to start painting the little bit of nids I have as Aliens.

Whitehorn - August 17, 2009 04:24 PM (GMT)
Have been waiting for a decent Broodlord.
Fallen in love with those Terminators.
Lovely objective markers and genestealers too.

Suffice to say, there's £58.70 less in my account.

Hero of Istvaan - August 17, 2009 04:40 PM (GMT)
i really love the models but i just dont see how they can justify £60 for a board game!? its not like theres a truck load of models theres only 25 miniatures and the rest is just card board!

Mortarion - August 17, 2009 04:44 PM (GMT)
Ordered! really shouldnt have but couldnt pass it up!

Looking at that captain with the chalices on his armour I'm thinking Soul Drinkers. Also going to see if I can modify the rules to allow for other races to use in an upcoming map based campaign I am writting, would be good to use for base complexes or boarding actions in BFG

12 Terminators (including a librarian and possibly a chaplain), 22 (?) Genestealers including a broodlord, a tracked servo skull type doodad, and some pieces of terrain including a rather snazzy dead marine on throne. So 34 models plus scenery.

Price doesn't seem particularly outrageous given that two standard terminator squads will cost you £50. The old version was £50 if I remember correctly, and the models here are a VAST improvement.

ShroudFilm - August 17, 2009 05:09 PM (GMT)
The tracked thing might be the ship's CAT (Cyber-Altered Task Unit) from the original?

In the 3DO computer game it was a stupid floaty camera ball.

Thanks Shroud, but I still live with my parents, and I doubt they'd let me do that. Oh well.

Hero of Istvaan - August 17, 2009 05:17 PM (GMT)
ok so...
space hulk: 35 models, some card board scenery, counters, dice, rulebook and mission booklet for £60

AoBR: 5 termies 1 dread 1 tac squad 1 captain 20 ork boyz 3 deff copters 1 warboss 5 nobz plus rulebook, templates, dice, transfur sheet, 2 ruler-sticks and an AoBR booklet for £50

hence why i think the new space hulk is a bit of a rip off

Whitehorn - August 17, 2009 05:35 PM (GMT)
Compare SH terminators to AOBR.
Compare the SH Genestealers to Macgragge.

The models total at £120-125 RRP if you bought the equivalents. Throw in the nice dice, very nice objectives and hell.. a stand-alone board game, the nicest Blood Angel models this decade.

Everyone and their nan wants 3 copies.

I reckon it's worth £10 more than AOBR.

Iron Corsair - August 17, 2009 07:37 PM (GMT)
I think I have a plan on how to get the money for SH! Sell my old Magic the Gathering Cards from a while ago, and hopefully I'll get at least $55. If that is the case, then I will be very happy.

Mortarion - August 17, 2009 08:13 PM (GMT)
If you have old ones stick them on ebay, you'll do well, I got £200 for mine and I mostly had from Legions onwards with a few oldies thrown in that I got in trades an whatever.

Magos Explorator - August 17, 2009 09:18 PM (GMT)
Those Genestealers would make a good start to a Genestealer Cult list. And the Terminators look very nice! :)

Wow. I'll have to really look into that, for sure!

Arden Fell - August 17, 2009 10:52 PM (GMT)
Looking at the boards, they appear to be almost identical to the originals. Wonder if this means they will snap together like a scalextric set and give me a huge ship to play in.

£50 was the price of the original game and my god do these models look so much better. Even compared to the AoBR Termis too.

AoBR on the left, Original SH on the right.

The only down side would be that the new ones appear to be single cast figures (like the ones you used to get in your Frosties/CoCo Pops). SO you'd have to cut them up to move the arms a bit.

Kriegersen - August 17, 2009 11:33 PM (GMT)
If anyone thinks of cutting them up its lights out
Nah but in all seriousness why would you want to, they are some damn fine models, and to me it looks like in the future they will be real collectors pieces :)

Its a shame that this is a limited release, unless you pre order it (the only way you are garrenteed to get it) its only out over the weekend, and my store is only getting four copies in store :(
with any luck I may order a second to remain in-seal, unopend, however that requires me living off the dreaded pot noodles for two weeks :D

I am seriously painting them as Impirial fists or space wolves, but it is tempting to do them blood angels ;)

Oh also, you have till the 2nd september to order your copies :D

Arden Fell - August 17, 2009 11:42 PM (GMT)
If Shroud can get me one (at a discount ;) ) I would buy one.

Not wanting to get personal but I hate folk who buy multiples just cost they know they can sell them on at a later date. Means that folk who actually want one miss out and end up having to pay through the nose for it.

Probably shouldn't have said that but it's one of those things that irk the hell out of me. Was like that when the PS3 came out and the Wii and Wii Play and Wii Fit, etc. Maybe cut and past this in the the "Grinds my Gears" thread. :P

Anyway....

Yes I'll get one, if I can.

Itkovian - August 17, 2009 11:49 PM (GMT)
I'm with you on that one, Arden. It's a rather genitalish move...

Kriegersen - August 18, 2009 03:03 AM (GMT)
I can see exactly where your coming from, its just I did fancy a box just to put away to look back at, I wasnt intending to be selling it when im older, im too sentimental to get rid of toys like that, (let alone to tight when it comes to money  )
has anyone had any thoughts on painting the geenstealers, because im stumped

Manneus Drath - August 18, 2009 05:17 AM (GMT)
Oh for gods sake why does it have to be so expensive...
Those terminators are possibly the most beautiful models I've ever seen. I don't know how SH plays, so I don't know about that, but hell I'd want to get it even just for those Termies.
But, alas, I do not have the money. :(

Hero of Istvaan - August 18, 2009 07:20 AM (GMT)
im with you drath i absolutly love the models but its just too dang expensive for wot it is! and i deffinatly cant afford 1 since i just spent a truck load of money on a thunderhawk and a mk IV dread from FW! :D

Maratheus - August 18, 2009 07:38 AM (GMT)
I'd love to cut those terminators up. A little glue here, a bit of GS there....
This is a very nice package indeed, our gaming group might have to invest in one. Good thing we have two outriders. :D

I very much doubt it to be honest given the poses. Its incredibly dificult to cast models across more than one 'plane' as metal/plastic will not flow properly into all the recesses. Given the dynamic and 3D nature of the models, I am pretty sure that they will have separate parts - some of the arms at least would almost have to be separate in order for casting to be possible. In addition, if you look carefully at the complete unpainted contents picture, the Captain does not have the little winged grail on the top of his armour, it is on what looks like a sergeant. Again suggesting that some of the pieces at least are separate.

But AoBR is intended as a starter set, thus the price is artificially low as people who buy it will go on to buy additional models to build up their armies. Space Hulk, however, is a complete game in a box - the game is unsurprisingly slightly more expensive as it is not going to create extra business, and comes with everything you are ever going to need to play. Also, the models are superiour to AoBR :) . I don't think an extra £10 is either surprising or unreasonable given such considerations. Of course, if you want to argue that ALL GW prices are too high I would agree with you - merely that this set is pretty reasonably priced given the high costs of GW in general.

Besides, you recently bought a Space Marine Thunderhawk from Forgeworld (£386!!) and you think £60 is too expensive? :D

Hero of Istvaan - August 18, 2009 10:13 AM (GMT)
thats exactly i cant afford to! lol

Iacton - August 18, 2009 10:14 AM (GMT)
Well, clearly the captain model couldn't be 1 piece - look at all those tassels - as for the others, I would surmise that the arms and some trim are added to most, but the rest is going to be similarly done to how AOBR is done. Plus I believe that the termies represent individual characters, so gun swaps etc aren't an option...

I REALLY wanted to stop painting red marines for a while......

Itkovian - August 18, 2009 10:42 AM (GMT)
Sure you don't want to paint my copies of them? :D You could space them out with the genestealers...

Kriegersen - August 18, 2009 02:00 PM (GMT)
hmmm, this woldmake a great painting comp in off topic ;)
I say off topic because its not realy PH, what does everyone else think?

BigWill - August 18, 2009 02:01 PM (GMT)
Iacton ,you can always make them Death Company ;)

Iacton - August 18, 2009 02:45 PM (GMT)
Something tells me that a homicidal maniac with a penchant for suicide isn't likely to be allowed out in the chapter's best gear.

Kinda like wearing a hired tux to a mosh pit....
