Very cool looking so far, King Fluff!

lookin awsome dude! cant wait to see them painted!
are you going to model some destroyed tops too so you can change them as the game progresses? they would look really good for re-inacting the invasion of prospero by the SW's! B)

Great looking stuff so far! You just need a few guys in grey armour draped over the battlements to complete the picture ;)

destroyed as the game progresses.... this is Prospero sunshine not Calth ;)
hehe - not planned on tempting fate with this project, but I do plan on making more larger structures at some point in the future, and these will probably sport said damage.
These represent the first line of defence - a defence that the prosperians have failed to maintain and as such posed little threat to the Space Wolves upon planet fall...
The first set will be 3 bastions with a defence line of Aegis 'instant fortress'

Huhu,
I'm gonna keep my eyes on this one!! Very good idea and so much cooler for Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons than the original bastions!
Can't wait to see some paint on it! :D

You've really nailed these, congratulations, was considering something similar for mine, but couldn't get the scale quite right, but using the bastion base and having a narrow pyramid on top is pure genius.
King Fluff - August 21, 2009 08:35 AM (GMT)
thanks guys - hope the paintwork lives up to expectation :D
- just a quick note on texture...
the bastion base has a slight texture to it which is quite hard to reproduce in something like plain plastic card so I managed to get a close match by painting the plastic with a coat of superglue (stipling the surface as i went) I'm hoping that the texture with drybrush up as nice as the bastion plastics
PIP shots coming soon

Excellent !! - what a great use of the Bastions, well done sir
Itkovian - August 21, 2009 10:48 AM (GMT)
If you pick up some GW roughcoat, I'd imagine it would be the same texture as that, gives it a nice granular texture for drybrushing.
Then again, if you're going for marble, you may wish to leave it nice and smooth, and paint the base section as plainer stone - a nice contrast in textures.

Found Vallejo sandy paste recently. It is the dog's tail cherries. Perfect for creating texture without thickening the surface much - unless you want it to ;)
Brush it on, spread it out, even thin it with some water.
Not expensive either.

Very impressive like all your stuff dude.
I would nearly think about not letting my Space Wolves rip them apart! :P
Well done.
ShroudFilm - August 21, 2009 12:11 PM (GMT)
Excellent! Just like the Prospero artwork! :D
I need to come up with a way to make my *bastion* look grim and Iron Warriors-y... I wanted to make it more like a squat little bunker but couldn't think of a non-crap way of including 4 auto-heavy bolters...

ShroudFilm - August 23, 2009 09:24 PM (GMT)
Wow, very cool. Are you going to weather them at all (mid-invasion?) or leave them gleaming and new?
Kharn - August 24, 2009 01:42 AM (GMT)
If I'm not mistaken, there are several bullet holes at the base of the spire. Will you use battle damage and smudges on those?
Hero of Istvaan - August 24, 2009 08:49 AM (GMT)
coming along nicely Fluff
Still think you should model some semi destroyed ones though :P
Cloud Runner - September 22, 2009 12:44 PM (GMT)
Having seen this in the flesh at the event, I've gotta say it's by far the best bastion I have ever seen.
Great work there and it fitted in really nicely with your army.
Kudos to you good sir :)
