Title: Look what Horus found in the back of his closet...

... OLD MK1 ARMOUR! :D Hurray!

The mean idea is fielding a unit of these suits in my army, counting as Sternguards.
The idea is to make about 7-8 Sternguard (maybe some more if the first model turns out pretty good), and dropping them right into the action by Rhino transport!

I'm still kinda experimenting with these, and even though my GS-fu isn't that strong, I'm kinda liking how they look so far.

Got the greens on 2 sets of legs (hoping it still looks good once covered in paint), a start on the chest, another chest made out of chopped up MK4 armour, bit of the head and 2 shoulderpads.

The legs a bit closer

The chestplates a bit closer.

The chestplates a bit closer, different angle

So far I'm having trouble with the shoulderpads and the chestplate with the symbol on it.
The problem with the chestplate is that the symbol doesn't look that smooth, I'm kinda hoping this can be fixed by cutting away bits of GS on places where the lines are too thick and adding tiny amounts of GS where I need more volume.
Kinda hoping this evens out when I put some paint on it....

The shoulderpads are a monstrosity to make sofar... due to their different levels.
I've tried cutting up shoulderpads, creating additional levels with GS, etc... does anyone have a good idea on how to make a decent pad?

Now for the fluffjunkies... I need an existing name of a veteran squad, preferably linked to 10th company...
I know that squad Vaddon & squad Lachost were Chieftain squads, does this imply they are veterans? Or of any higher status than a normal Tactical squad?

Any C&C is always appreciated :D

used these for my Leman Russ - quite easy to make them straight edged plates..

nice work by the way - was planning on making some MK1's myself - will watch with baited breath :)

As if Company Champion pads are EVER in stock...! :P

Good start man, I like your approach to the legs.

Another good MK 1 helm is the cadian helms.

Huhu,

Thnx for the replies all! :D

The helmet I'm using for the MK1 is actually the Cadian helmet + some greenstuff.
I was thinking about getting the Company Champion's shoulderplates, but I'm not liking 'em... The MK1 variant has 3 layers and a somewhat simpler design. The Company Champion's shoulderplates smell like a very new Mark of armour tbh.
Still looking for a good replacement though ;)

for a Mk I pauldron I took a standard SM pad, filed down the rim, added to horizontal strips of plasticard 1/3rd and two thirds up and then used greenstuff and filing to form the distinct shape of the pad.

The Thunderbolt symbol I made was done out of plasticard and thin wire with greenstuff to add shape.
