Title: BigWill's Space Hulk Log

BigWill - September 7, 2009 05:33 PM (GMT)
This is where I am going to show all the work I will be doing on my Space Hulk game.
I am kind of batch painting them up to a point.
Now I am giving each Brother special attention.
First up is Sgt Lorenzo I am trying to capture the feel of the Marines on the back of the rulebook but customised to my tastes(I like Emeralds and Rubys for the gemstones)
He still needs about a days worth of fine touches before he is finished

Here are the Deluxe pieces to my game board.
First is the replacement to the Librarian.
I like this model much better and will be using this.

This may be a daft question but what primer have you used on the SH minis? The reason I ask is that my base layer, which I have used on all my minis plastic/metal whatever, doesn't seem to want to stick to the plastic of the space hulk figures. Have you had any problems with the paint adhesion?

I'm using a grey Humbrol acrylic which paints on far better than Citadel paint and primes in one coat usually.

But after completing the top couple of coats on my Deathwing termis the red plastic is starting to show through on the edges from handling and I really don't want this to happen with the finished models.

I'm using Grey Tamiya Primer
it seems to go on thin but when dry it really covers well.
You need a varnish to seal these guys since thier being used often
I recommend Testors Dullcote which is the best matt spray varnish IMO.

I have heard of people first using a gloss varnish for durablity then going over it in Dullcote to remove the shine.
That way when you see the model starting to get shiney you give it a touch up of dullcote along the way.

Nice work on these guys. :) My only real criticism is that you can see some red coming through on Lorenzo's gun barrel, but otherwise they look good! Do you have any plans for the bases?

Mine are still on sprues; planning to wait a while until less busy before painting and playing (with the missus).

TBH I am kind of liking the minimalist bases that they are on.
The Libby and Chappy even have custom plastic bases in the same style as the game.
I just made the first plastic game piece(corridor),I just have to add detail

Every guy still needs tidying up.
And I am having a hard time doing gemstones for some reason.
