Title: Source of brass etch or similar roman numerals

Magos Explorator - September 25, 2009 02:30 PM (GMT)
I'm looking to get some Roman numerals to put as Legion numbers on pre-Heresy vehicles, but am having difficulty finding any online. I imagine they must exist for some purpose somewhere! I don't want decals, something like brass etch would work.

I know ForgeWorld do a brass etch set of numbers, but this doesn't suit me because only a third of them on the sheet are Roman numerals and the numbers only go up to X: so I ideally need numbers which aren't set on some backing plate (as constructing, for example, XII by placing an X and an II, both on their square/round backing, would not look good).

Any recommendations?

I could not find any online.
The best I could come up with is a service that makes brass etch for modelers.
Which may be a diamond yet I think they will do custom designs.

Maybe some of the BoLS transfer sheets made brass :)

Have you looked at the Bell of Lost Souls "Generic Astartes Transfer" Sheet ?

Linky

You'll need to print them out yourself, but they are very easy to use.

Will: Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. :)

Yvraith: I don't want decals as I want them to have a little depth.

The guy wrote back to me
He told me to send in some drawings
What Numerals are you looking for?
I'm assuming all of them.
I am going to put together something and also see if he can make some Bols x-fer sheets out of brass.
He has not quoted a price yet I think it will be around 20-30 dollars a sheet.
Which is a steal if the BolS idea works.

Let me know if that works Will.
I would buy so many of them :D :D :D

BigWill - September 29, 2009 07:46 PM (GMT)
will do

Magos Explorator - September 29, 2009 10:17 PM (GMT)
Good idea Will; I've actually been putting together a couple of sample images which I intend to collate and send off to them. A combination of Roman numerals and, if I can figure out a decent sizing, a few Legion-related bits. I'd forgotten that BOLS had some decals so that will save a bit of time getting the basic shapes for a few of the pieces.

I can let you know what the outcome of my order is, if you'd like? I am intending to start my proper PH army project in a couple of weeks from now (I'm going to have a fair amount of free time in the evenings for a few weeks) so hopefully will have something to show for it within a month or so. Could possibly be easier for us to do these orders separately given there's an ocean between us, but if it turns out well, we could see about getting them to make a few sheets which lots of us would be interesting in buying.

I'll let you know too Magos,I just sent him 2 pics One page full of I,V,X's in 3 different sizes
And the some SoH eyes.

Cool. :D

What thickness were you thinking? I figure 0.3 mm might be about right (thick enough to stick up from the surface, but thin enough to bend).

BigWill - September 30, 2009 01:06 PM (GMT)
I did not get that far yet.
I did'nt even think about that.
Do you know that thickness the Forgeworld stuff is?

Ilmarinen - October 22, 2009 06:34 PM (GMT)
I'm interested too!

good to know

I still have'nt heard from the guy who I gave the drawings to.

Magos Explorator - October 22, 2009 08:28 PM (GMT)
I never heard back from them either. I found a few other companies who offered a similar service but were a lot more expensive, mostly geared towards larger runs.

In the end I found and used some spare parts for clocks instead.

BigWill - October 22, 2009 08:33 PM (GMT)
I just sent him another mail.
I am more interested in getting custom symbols made ;)

I am going to still look into this further

Magos Explorator - October 22, 2009 10:54 PM (GMT)
I've given up now; I got the numerals I was after, but would definitely be interested in hearing about progress with Legion symbols.

Not really since winter is coming and ventilation is poor.
But it is very tempting

edit 10/25 I just heard from him he is attending a few hobby shows and also is travelling.
He tells me they will come he just is buzy.
And to be fair the site even said he wasn't taking orders ATM so I do not want to bug him.

In a weird way I do kind of want to try to do it myself, but I am horrible at photshop and the programs to make the templates in the first place.
but if it works like advertized it would be like chemistry class.
