Title: Source for 'Truescale' Rhino Chasis?
Legion XX - September 25, 2009 06:53 PM (GMT)
I'm going to be starting up a "Truescale" marine army soon and was wondering if anyone knows of a good source and scale of Military model kits that would help get me 'closer' to a Truescale Rhino Chasis?
Basically, anything tracked that would be a bit bigger than the GW Rhino.
And still in production and available for sale too!
Any and all help would be appreciated!

Maybe a Tamiya 1/35th scale Vietnam era APC?

Apologist did a TS rhino you may want to check out
but i would just get the FW Extra armour kit

The FW Extra Armour kits aren't that much bulkier-I think Apologist's method or similar (use plasticard to extend the width of the chassis) is probably the best bet.

Failing a complete scratchbuild, my recommendation would be to use a model kit of the British Army FV432, or the American M113 as the basis. Both are nice and boxy, so the proportions will be pretty close.
I believe that the THQ Blood Raven Rhino was based on the FV432, so you may be able to find useful hints and tips on their build process and make a miniature of it. :)

I was leaning towards the M113 - the more modern variant.
BUT, I do think that 'bulking up' the standard Rhino might still be the best way to go.
Apologist - do you have a link to your Rhino?

Certainly:

Hope it's useful! I made it by assembling the track bodies, then cutting them just in front of the rear engine block. These were then pulled back around 3–4cm, and plasticard used to fill the gap.
The body uses the original floor, but extended approx 2–3cm with plasticard; and then the rest was built up using that as a size guide.

Thanks for that - very helpful indeed!
