Title: Winter Exodites

Macewind - September 26, 2009 08:16 AM (GMT)
Not exactly pre-heresy but there isnt enough Xeno's around here! Ive made a start on my new exodite force. Im starting with the hunters, the standard troops of the exodites. Ive took what I learned from the last project and built upon it to create what I think are even better looking exodites! Ill start painting these guys soon, just need to remove the few mold lines ive missed, and add a few accessories. Now is the time for critical feedback as once ive started painting, its too late! Tell me what you think :)

Nice job on the modelling.

I think that you have mixed and matched your pieces from the different ranges very well.

I think they'll look rather nice when painted up.

Can you jog my memory, as to what rules set you're using for them please?

Magos Explorator - September 26, 2009 11:21 AM (GMT)
Looks like a nice start. :)

ShroudFilm - September 26, 2009 05:04 PM (GMT)
I LOVE the second-to-last guy with the wide T-visor... what parts went into him?

Pacific - September 26, 2009 05:30 PM (GMT)
Wow, awesome stuff!

I love the posing, and some of the little touches you have added (like the owl, and 'daemon' skull for instance!)

Looking forward to seeing some of these guys painted :)

Lord Commander Lucius - September 26, 2009 06:42 PM (GMT)
Looks like a Guardian body, arms and equipment, Dryad base details but a Glade Guard head. Am i right? And Shroud, I thinks it's a her. ;)

Very nice figures by the way.

NeDlol - September 26, 2009 11:57 PM (GMT)
They're pretty similar to my 500 points of eldar I have downstairs, except I've used wood elf legs on all of my models aswell as hooded heads.
I'm also planning to do an eldar pirate force the same as my current eldar except removing the leaves and adding plasteel and chainmail here and there on them with splinter rifles instead of catapults.

I look forward to seeing more of your eldar as I think they look great :)

QUOTE (Lord Commander Lucius @ Sep 26 2009, 06:42 PM)
And Shroud, I thinks it's a her. ;)

Wow, she must have a huge schlong then... :D Either that or they gendered the chests and not the groins. Wouldn't surprise me, with GW.

Macewind - September 27, 2009 03:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks everyone, Im using the tempus fugitives rule set. The parts on that hunter are a wood elf head, dire avenger torso and dark eldar legs. Could be male or female, I guess if its a lass she uses the extra codpiece space to conceal her makeup!

Ive taken the feedback on board from this site and others and removed the big hair head and replaced it with an exarch helm. You'll notice he also has a bow too, ive done this with all the current mini's and also added accessories like ammo clips and wood elves daggers.

Question time, which snow base looks better? The one on the left has been painted white first, the one on the right has just been left with the grey undercoat.

And finally, heres the rest of the hunters, this now represents the full amount of hunters I will be taking. Keep the C&C coming!

I MUCH prefer the white painted snow. If you have the various branches and tree stumps in near-black or very dark brown, drybrushed with a little frosty white... ooh mama! ;)

Consider so many of these ideas yoinked, by the way! :P When I eventually get around to making 500pts of PH Eldar... in like, 2012...

NeDlol - September 28, 2009 01:20 AM (GMT)
its taking you 3 years to put to gether 2x 6 dire avengers, 6 scorpions an autarch and a couple wraithlords Shroud? :/

Macewind - September 28, 2009 05:37 AM (GMT)
Yoink away! Heres the first one painted, took just 6 hours and for the first time ever, im happy with the colour scheme on the first attempt! Usually I do six or seven before finding something I like! Feedback welcomed as always, I want this to be better than tabletop standard so be honest!

Perfect!

Yvraith - September 28, 2009 10:50 AM (GMT)
That is a very nice paint scheme Macewind.
They'd be very hard to spot in those conditions.

I too, might "borrow" some of your modelling ideas, to add to my 7000+ points of Eldar. :D

Macewind - October 6, 2009 03:16 PM (GMT)
Ive finished the first half of this squad, I think I rushed them a little as they arnt quite as smooth as the first guy, so im going to go back to painting them one at a time and give them more love! C+C welcomed :)

Awesome stuff Mace... particularly like the contrast of the blue and the red gemstones against the crisp white.

Will we be seeing these in person for AOTE III? Thats a serious deadline!

Macewind - October 6, 2009 05:15 PM (GMT)
Well I was going to take the sons of horus again, but since horus wont be playable im not too sure now. Ill get this army finished before then no problem, so theres a very good chance it'll be at the campaign, but then ill have a real rush on my hands making an autumn scheme army in time for the last event!

Macewind - October 7, 2009 05:50 AM (GMT)
Another update. I did a bit of re painting and touch up work of some pathfinders ive had since they were released, I think they fit the theme very well as they are so wont be doing any more work to them. Also I created my first objective marker, a snowman, or rather, snow lizard :D

How did you do the spindly arms on the snow beast?

Love the guys with the faces showing, just seperates the whole look from craftworld eldar. I say go with as little armour stuff as possible so they look really swift and not too tech-y.

ShroudFilm - October 7, 2009 11:27 AM (GMT)
Dryad arms?

Battle Brother Loken - October 7, 2009 02:24 PM (GMT)
Only thing i do not like so far is the dryad-snow-lizard-thing other than that amazing painting dude

Macewind - October 7, 2009 02:41 PM (GMT)
Yup. Dryad arms. Its only an objective marker and I had a damaged cold one so turned it into a snowman for some fun. Its better than a pile of yellow snowballs!

Arden Fell - October 7, 2009 10:28 PM (GMT)
Your snow beast needs a carrot for it's nose and then it would be perfect.

Love the black and grey tech cammo on the pathfinders and the white paint job on the other eldar looks simple but is so effective with that blue and red detailing.

Very nice.

Macewind - October 16, 2009 05:57 AM (GMT)
I did the finishing touches to my first drakelord last night, cant wait to start painting him but ive ordered myself to paint another 5 hunters first to get them out of the way! Hope you like him!

Awesome Drake! :o
Is that a GW one or a one from a different Company?
I want one for my dragon collection! :)
My wife would just  her eyes at me!
Cool! :D

Yvraith - October 16, 2009 11:10 AM (GMT)
That is one damn sweet dragon/drake.

Very nice indeed.

Please do tell us where it's from.

In the words of Peregrin Took "..I'm getting one!"

shorty - October 16, 2009 12:30 PM (GMT)
such a beauty....damn....need to wash out my eyes because of that xenos scum.... ;)

Macewind - October 16, 2009 03:03 PM (GMT)
lol, it is a blinding model isnt it?! Its from dark sword miniatures, quite expensive (just under $100 including p&P) but its all metal, so kinda justify s the price tag.

Macewind - October 17, 2009 05:34 AM (GMT)
Ok, im useless at carrying out self imposed orders and I started work on painting the dragon last night! Ive painted the gravel and build a dam around what will be a frozen pond and given the dragon his first basecoat. Well, four actually but the others looked crap so I painted over them! I can see this is going to be a painful model to paint though, it weighs a ton as its all metal and my wrist is killing me from holding it up!

WIP shots of the dragon so far. Still lots to do but he's coming along nicely. Im going to change the colour of the armour on the dragon as I dont like it.
