Title: Armour variant shoulder pads
King Fluff - October 11, 2009 02:26 PM (GMT)
I really can't find a satisfactory answer on the net for this....
what types of shoulder pads go with the MK2 crusade armour pattern...
is it like the later MK6/7 - a plain pad with thick trim
or like MK3 - a plain pad with a detailed thin rim?
really stuck on what to give my MK2's
any help?

It's like Mk3 but less of a ridged edge.
I tend to just use a flat pad and add a ring of dots.

A mark 2 pad, or pauldron, has a thin rim with studs in the crease between rim and the face of the pad.
Also solely on the left pad is a riveted on disc of metal. This disc usually bears the Legion's/Chapter's symbol.
Here's some pics to illustrate.

And my own version.

That of help?

The current codex actually just makes them identical to Mk3, with full pad-bordering and no disk :/

Based on all the old figures, and rick priestley's original article and the sketches in it, I would say it has a heavy trim with rivets.

here are my versions of them

hehe - lots of conflicting stories then - that's why I was getting confused.
in that case i may compromise and do the MK3's with the rivetted cricle.
thanks guys :D

I like to think we all flow with the old school here, so good choice :)

Actually since you brought this up I went back and re-examined it. The original artwork has MK2 with a thin rim and rivets BESIDE the rim. The original models are like this too. MK3 has the heavier rivets going through the rim like the ones I cast in resin. So i guess my version is closer to MK3 than MK2. Both have the riveted circle, but i think that was for the chapter badge.
In the new codex, there is no difference between MK2 and MK3, but I think that's an error now.
