Title: Imperial Fists Space Hulk boarding team
BigWill - October 15, 2009 12:35 AM (GMT)
I got my package from Forgeworld today containing Terminator Shoulder pads for the Imperial Fists and Deathwing.
I had this guy already made he was just waiting for the Shoulderpads

Nice work there, the pose flows very well, nice use of the tabbard thing to show movement.
One little thing I'd say could be improved would be the purity seals on the shoulderpad, which at the moment are defying gravity  bit of hot water makes resin much more plyable ;)

Imperial Fist and Deathwing Boarding Team for Space Hulk ? ;)
Iacton - October 15, 2009 08:45 AM (GMT)
I agree with Robert. You do need to do something with those seals.
BigWill - October 15, 2009 09:00 PM (GMT)
I followed Rob's suggestion with the hot water
worked well enough so it does'nt look too weird
ShroudFilm - October 15, 2009 10:31 PM (GMT)

I think it is one of the better heads especially for World Eaters/Blood Angels
BigWill - October 18, 2009 05:47 AM (GMT)
Here is the other boss in progress, Lysander
He will be Gideon's stand in.
The yellow is still just a basecoat and needs yellow ink to richen the color.

I'm very pleased with this shoulder pad
BigWill - October 19, 2009 12:55 AM (GMT)
Here he is with a yellow ink glaze on top of the Vomit Brown basecoat.

Lysander looks really good! I really like that dark blue color that you used for the fist. Keep up the good work!
Yvraith - October 20, 2009 08:29 AM (GMT)
He looks ace "TJ"!
That shade of yellow you have achieved is very nice.
I agree on the shoulder pad.
If that is a freehand on the legion badge that's very good.
BigWill - October 24, 2009 07:16 PM (GMT)
I just noticed something Lysander is a Captain not a Sergeant.
That means the other guy must be a Captain too.
Therefore He will be the other most famous Fist in recent history
Captain Lexandro d'Arquebus, complete with skeletal fist heraldry and the bionic eye he would be sure to have after the events of Inquisition War.
The banner on top will be a tribute to Grimm who has fallen many many years ago.
He has even done him the honar of scrimshawing his skull and still carries him around to this day.

Now my question should I keep the bolter blue or change it to red?
Mind you the fist on his shoulder is also blue.
shorty - October 25, 2009 12:20 AM (GMT)
leave it blue. Hmm Arquebus does he also get his second chance with his Chapter ? Hehe the idea with grimms remains on his back are cool...
These are the mightiest of the Fist pack...carry on the good work ;)

i wonder if Lex will ever re-surface in any more novels, or if they will ever reissue the space marine novel... id love to know where my copy has wandered off to
Leman Russ SW - October 25, 2009 02:00 AM (GMT)
Space Marine is possibly the best 40K novel Workshop ever did.

Lex was also involved in the Inquisition War trilogy by Ian Watson.
He pops up in the second book in the series "Harlequin" from memory. ;)
BigWill - October 25, 2009 05:48 AM (GMT)
And also Chaos Child.
I have new pics of Lexandro with the Yellow Ink wash.

Magos Explorator - October 25, 2009 09:08 AM (GMT)
Very nice work on Lex. :)

Here is the latest guy I put together an Imperial Fists assault cannon terminator.
I customised him with ForgeWorld shoulder pads and a Iron Warrior Helmet for a Pre-Heresy Articifer helmet.
I used the smallest link chain I could find for his necklace and a larger link for the tabbard

Brother Sergeant Gannon
His back story is that while a member of the first company he is more like Sgt Tellion of the Ultramarines but for Devastators instead of scouts.
For this killteam they wanted the best gunner in the Chapter.
He also has a nod toward Biff Tundrish with the Spider heraldry.

Looking good, Will.
Critique...
The blue shoulder shield needs a lot of tidying up. It is bringing the mini down at the moment. You really need to create at least a base and highlight situation before you freehand it. That highlight shade combo has then got to be transferred to the cannon housing. The steel metallics need some more definition, use some thinned out washes to do that and then highlight the raised sections - PAY ATTENTION TO LIGHT. Darker below, light above.
The yellow is very nice, just make sure that it is tidy at the end - avoid using black itself to "black line". Try a bit of sepia and a hint of blue, it's less stark.
I would avoid a blue fist icon, but by all means use the blue as the basis for a "black" icon, by washing it several times with black and devlan mud in successive coats.
The highlight below the eye lens on the helm is to stark at the moment.
Good stuff...
The weathering around the fridge vents is great. The yellow is fine. The cannon barrels are lovely, but get a final very FINE highlight on the edges.
Not being harsh BTW, just items that need tweaking to make him into a really cool, well painted and well considered model, if you want him to show well in your competition ;)
Cheers B)
Fulgrim - November 8, 2009 07:03 PM (GMT)
Looking good! How did you do the weathering of the armour? It looks great.
BigWill - November 8, 2009 08:06 PM (GMT)
Thanks Iacton that is the kind of critque I crave, the kind with suggestions to get the ball in my head rolling.
Do you think I should go darker with the blacklining?
right now I have a red/sepia lining
How is this for the improved Heraldry, the left side needs tiding ,no spider but I think this is much better

I did the battle damage by using a ripped packaging sponge, held with tweezers and using dark flesh applied sparingly.
The bottom of as many chips as possible get the tiniest highlight of bleached bone.
The cannon and back vents are done by using washes, and weathering powder

Here is the cleaned up heraldry and with the arm attached

Iron Warrior helmets on Imperial Fists?!?!?!?!??!
Perturabo is offended!
Very nice painting. You've gotten the yellow down cold. It looks great! Great conversions too, and the bases look awesome
