Title: What bits would you be most interested in?

Whitehorn - October 18, 2009 07:37 PM (GMT)
Should someone happen to sculpt and mass produce various custom bits, what would interest you? Obviously they wouldn't be modeled for or based on anything that would clash with Games Workshop's Intellectual Properties.

Be as specific as you like.

Kidjal - October 18, 2009 08:21 PM (GMT)
Discussing this elsewhere, but for official use:

kitbags, pouches, musette bags
bolter free clips with loading bays, stripped down lasguns, autoguns, knives, bayonettes
mini rats in different poses, or in fact any small animal for modelling uses (mice, foxes, anything i would use on a diorama or display base)

otherwise, comms gear, camp stuff like generators, habs...

But my personal want, STRIPPED DOWN POWER ARMOUR.

That would be freakin' sweet! :o

BigWill - October 19, 2009 02:58 PM (GMT)
Isn't that what it is before we glue it together :P

Mk1 backpacks(like Helbrecht's)
Mk2 and mk3 armor legs and chest
MK1 Thunder armor bolter

Magos Explorator - October 19, 2009 03:09 PM (GMT)
I agree with Will. Would also be good to have shoulder pads in that style (i.e. with a raised circle).

BigWill - October 19, 2009 11:02 PM (GMT)
And while we are at it Thunder Armor heads
hell lets just say multi-kit friendly MK 1,2,3 and be done with it :D

grimdisco - October 20, 2009 12:09 AM (GMT)
I'd be happy to see bionics of all size and shapes ( marine guard maybe other.)

The Sigillite - October 20, 2009 12:42 AM (GMT)
Weapons that are similar to tombking scythes... Not the same but you know... <_<

I second this motion

They are called a 'Khopesh' - they were a common weapon in Ancient Egypt.

deadmanwade - October 20, 2009 11:12 AM (GMT)
Sculpted pieces that fit over standard marine armour to produce artificer armour. (look at the work done by Scibor and you'll have some idea what I mean).

Arden Fell - October 20, 2009 11:19 AM (GMT)
What about some truescale legs and toros?

Keep them basic. A mark of plain armour which can be modified to make it earlier or later without too much hassle.

Termi Shoulder pads (barrel type) to save buying barels and cutting them.

Magos Explorator - October 20, 2009 11:49 AM (GMT)
Yes, true-scale bits would be great, but I don't know how to walk the balance between them looking good and infringing on IP.

Yes and no

I've done display peices as gifts and stuff before where I've hollowed out helmets and used brass etch, wire and other bits to fit connectors, optics and rebreathers inside. Same for the armour plating, it can be hollowed out to show the carapace connectors, ceramite layers and other stuff.

Really nice to model but bloody time consuming and useful for many things

Infringing on IP is awkward but as pretty much everything everyone else has suggested has similar issues, I would think upscaling legs and torso's would be the least of your worries.

Also if you are scratch sculpting them then you could get away with squaring off the toes, tweaking the greaves and knee pads, adding different details to make them more knight like. but at the same time keeping them pretty plain to allow them to be modifed to different marks to coinside with GW lore.

Can't see it being too dissimilar to that Lion El figure or Max Mini stuff.

Whitehorn - October 20, 2009 02:22 PM (GMT)
Great ideas guys. Some things would be steered well clear of, such as complete sculpts that clash with IP. Also, truescale is not going to be touched for the forseable future. The aim is to produce props and custom pieces that can be added to existing ranges, albeit not entirely obvious in their intended purpose. Officially, anyway ;)

As far as I am concerned, I am currently sculpting some futuristic soldier helmets of a heroic scale (approx 28mm). You might see the theme for my first drafts on a the back of a dollar bill ;)

WIPs and such should follow within the week, aiming for a demo casting run in November.

That's the name, always forgot what they were called...

Can't wait to see what you gonna be making dude. Good luck!

You may want to check out your competition
Here is a link Chapter house
I have some of the Star fox pads for my Luna Wolves and I must say they do good work.
They also happen to be looking for sculptors, so maybe partnering up with them maybe profitable for you.

Whitehorn - October 20, 2009 03:28 PM (GMT)
Indeed, I am aware of most other producers out there. I'm not in this for the money really, I aim to provide firstly for the community where product is lacking and for my own projects and portfolio. I don't plan to produce anything that will clash with other resources.

Jul063 - October 20, 2009 05:23 PM (GMT)
mostly

specific shoulder pads like plain without borders, plain with circle inside, studded ones...etc

then legs will always be welcomed

Here's my contribution.

Romans in space Legionnary heads ;) , like Mk 1s and possibly ones like the heads on the cover of False Gods. Even a chest with a symbol similar to that on roman shields.

SF diving/radsuit helmets like the Mk 2 types, y'know with a single, cyclopean visor. Same style of chests, like SM Mk 2 & 3s; and legs.

Knightly, grille-faced helmets for Terminators. I do like the look of the ones in the artwork rather as opposed to the cut-down plastic termie head look.

Mk 3 style arms.

Mk 4 style legs (there aren't many out there).
How about some knightly shaped legs? Luther is described as having such armour, and they'd be great for Custodes and SM's in artificer armour.

Extra bits would be:
Greco-Roman horsehair crests.
Recon troops weapons (bull-pup gun, sniper rifle, etc.) and kit.
I second the Khopesh request.
... Legion specific pads for those Legions where there isn't even something you can convert from (eg. Alpha Legion, the original Thousand Sons symbol, the original Word Bearers symbol, etc.).

I'll try to think of some more.

TyraelVladinhurst - October 21, 2009 08:50 AM (GMT)
how about conversion parts to turn the MK2 rhino into a MK1?

Whitehorn - October 21, 2009 09:43 AM (GMT)
I like deadmanwade's suggestion. Looking at Thunder armour, it is literally strapped onto the body, so I've begun working on a 'Storm armour' piece from the feet up. I'm thinking posed/posable soliders in jump suit/mail that you attach the plates to.

Also started layering a selection of pads and helmets. Pics soon! Got 2 gigs this week, so hope to get something visual up at the weekend.

grimdisco - October 21, 2009 04:17 PM (GMT)
I cant wait to see what you have come up with.

As for the chapter house thing, I was just letting you know you could make a bit of cash form them as well. Not pointing out other company's stuff.

I'll third the bionics, can't get enough or them. MK 8 Errant armour too :D

Hero of Istvaan - November 7, 2009 04:50 PM (GMT)
i would love to see some multi part grey knights, that would just be Awsome! ;)
