Title: Heresy Era White Scar Mechanised Company

Noserenda - October 22, 2009 11:50 AM (GMT)
Righty Ho, having built up a fairly large Alpha Legion force for various reasons the next project is a Force for the Tempus Fugitives event next May The Battle for the Emperors palace! With the Alphas (probably) not involved id rather be involved in the main thrust of the event rather than some sideshow :P So along with half our gaming group we've gone for White Scars.

But why no Bikes? Bah! Says I, 5 or Six identical biker hordes hardly makes for an interesting display really, so its more Modern Cavalry for me! (Partially because lurking here makes me want tanks in an unhealthy way...). In any case, my rough plan for the army consists of:

2 Assault Terminator Squads in Land Raiders, with Attached Characters
2 Tactical Squads in Thunder Rhinos (The unholy lovechild of Trukk and Rhino)
Command Squad and Possibly Sternguard also in Thunder Rhinos
aaaaand A Complete Company of Predators (10)
Possibly some Custodes too, as they are a Bit badass...

From that i then build lists ranging from 1000pt Invasion Groups to 2000pt Cityfight Rumblers and the Almighty 3000pt Heavy Assault force (Which is hopefully all of the above to save pennies).

Anyhow, enough jabbering like a Stoned Hyena. Progress!

First up is my Termie Chaplain. In Good Old Fashioned Cataphract Terminator armour and standing atop a Sons of Horus Rhino door. I had to use this model as I love it and got the torso and left arm in a Random Ebay buy.

Next Test Model 1 Missile Launcher. When building a load of Alpha Legion out of Snap Fit Marines I was left with 1 random Launcher guy left over, in my idle time Id converted him into Mk5 Armour and he was lying around spare when the Scars needed concept models...

Test Model 2 Is his Loader/Spotter (As Teams make sense even for Marines). Hes another Kit bash of spare bits and some legs destined to be an Devastator which escaped (Until I moved house again!). Also, damn those Mk5 Chaos heads are hard to fine line..

Now the rest of the squad who ive bashed together from bits as my GW order got delayed...

Sergeant First, the Squad is Generally dishing out Shooting, so he is shouting orders.
user posted image

Squad Flamer tossing in a grenade as hes well out with his primary weapon :D

First of the Beakies, with this Army ive gone for a Far less uniform armour pattern as they replace parts throughout the Desperate campaign with replacements or Upgrades
user posted image

Another here, like the one handed Bolter pose, and he shows the Winged skull on his torso, symbol of the loyalists during the heresy it should be kosher...
user posted image

This guy got a bots ordered wolf head to mix up the barbarian vibe, plus cool Beserker Torso
user posted image

Running beserker legs always look a bit odd to my eyes this guy is moving up laying down Suppressing fire. Hes also a Terran, as I imagine the Khan mixed his units in the Legion just as he did in his Golden Horde.

Beakie holding Superfluous Chainsword, I liked the Imagery from the books of Marines using both Bolter and Chainsword, obviously its down as he is popping off shots from the hip.
user posted image

This guy was a pain building him a Neck and getting around his dramatic facial hair!
user posted image

Well theres the first Tactical squad, should get the second and Command Squad hopefully Thursday, ive got a small hill of bits to stick on them... (Although I may get some more Studded shoulder pads, expensive but worth it...)

So... Going well so far? (Photography aside, as I suck at that...)

"Chew on this"

Looks promising so far.

10 Predators? Wow. What gear? Do Scars have a special tank commander that lets you take squads?

Has that flamer got a grip?

Those white scar pads are much higher quality than the eagle warriors ones I've got

DaemonlordAbraxes - October 22, 2009 03:09 PM (GMT)
Yes, its hiding in the hands of a Chaos Raptor

Its not really ALL that had to fine line them, its just REALLY tricky stuff

Hahahaha like a Stoned Hyena

Battle Brother Loken - October 22, 2009 03:32 PM (GMT)
Looks good just watch for mold lines and you should do perfect :D

Or is it ONLY the Alphas involved...These guys are looking good! What did you use for the pads on the Chaplian? I've got my own I was thinking about Cataphractizing, and that looks great even over the metal pad.

DaemonlordAbraxes - October 22, 2009 07:20 PM (GMT)
Looks like a Dread shin

Ilmarinen - October 23, 2009 05:20 AM (GMT)
More White Scars! Fantastic! I really like the unusual army composition you're going for. All those Predators will look amazing.

Your comment about mixed armour has made me reconsider having my squads in identical armour, and I've decided to mix mine around too. I really must get some more stuff done!

Looking forward to seeing more! :)

Cheers for the positive comments so far guys! Ive got the command squad 80% done last night so ill hopefully have more pictures later...

The Terminator Shoulders are indeed Dreadnought shins, ive got a small pile on my desk from Blagging and bits orders :D

Indeed we do also get a Tank Commander who can lead 1 Predator Squadron in the AOTE Packs, he currently allows 3 in his Squadron, but im hoping that gets extended to 5 (Like his Alpha Legion Equivalent) which will give me a Potential 10 Preds in the 3000pt games as they allow 6 Heavy Support Choices! Im not expecting miracles, but the look itself should hopefully be worth it!

Righto, been cracking away at the guys now ive got more toys to play with so heres some WIP shots of my Command Squad and first terminator Assault unit...

Command Squad First, they are mostly done, just basing and a wee bit of greenstuff filling to do. Plus maybe some of those wee Shields you get in the White Scars packs of which I have 6 for the army...

Why not Start with the Champion? Ive gone for posing him Challenging enemy leader to beat my 1 wound arse into paste :D

Next up the Banner bearer, im keen on them for this army after not having any at all in my Alphas, and a power Fist just seems to suit the offhand here.
user posted image

With the Apothecary I was keen to avoid him looking tacked on, even with the bone stupid no upgrades in the new codex. So a nice dynamic spotting high, with the rest of the squad looking menacing for the champions challenge, perhaps hes spotted a sniper in a nearby ruin taking aim?
user posted image

Now onto the Meatshields, with this guy I went with a Tulwar/Chainsword combo as two swords does have that nice "Highly Skilled" vibe if you can pull it off
user posted image

Lastly we have our Character basher (Assuming he survives until I 1 stage!) Thunder Hammers are very good at slowing down primarchs and the like, and a Stormshield can help with that without sacrificing an attack.
user posted image

Onto the Assault Terminators, who are about half done. This time Im going to leave the Stormshields off for painting as they are a right royal pain in the arse! They also need the card strips under the shoulder pads but you wouldnt be able to see them front on anyhow :/

Sergeant First (Who also needs a banner) With a nice traditional Gesturing pose
user posted image

Next guy is again pointing high, perhaps an Oath to the Sky Emperor?
user posted image

Claws on the next man as I find it gives a nice edge over all hammer units, even I4 can be the edge in some fights and claws are still pretty lethal! On his base there is a trophy rack from a chaos kit, currently planning to paint the helmet in Emperors Children purple.
user posted image

Then 2 meatshields :D With particularly bad photos, mind you it took me like 6 shots of each pointing high guy to get the macro to focus, I may have been frustrated...

Then on to a dilema, due to my Housemate ordering a Warhound I can get some toys postage free. Still thinking about a FW Pre Heresy land raider, but ive heard the kit is an absolute nightmare, plus its nearly double the price of a normal Land Raider for me! What do people think, especially those who have built one..
