So i am getting all of the BA termis from Space Hulk and want to use them in my pre heresy BA army
MY question as it seems like the chaos termi models have the same shoulder pads as the space marine ones of today is it safe to assume that during the heresy the new termi armour marks were released?

Consider that those things have been modified and repaired countless numbers of times and not all of them are 10,000 years old

I think those lorica segmentata terminator shoulder pads only showed up on the horus heresy cards and in the books. I don't think they were part of the official fluff up to that point.. so chaos terminators have the regular shoulder pads

There is a picture of collected visions of an Imperial Fist in the current style terminator armour. I suppose you could argue this is another example of the 'purple Ultramarine', or that the armour was developed at the end of the heresy. Mk7 armour was present at the seige of Terra so why not that type of terminator armour?

at the End of Heresy. Remember Dorns Boys had always the newest in technology if it comes to Armor...

For the Space Hulk Termies...they are looking too much new style. Keep the Armor and Pads but shave the Helmets down to the older style (Greyknight Style)...i think that would look better on the Blood Angels.

Essentially the only source of background for what Terminator armour looked like before and during the Heresy is from the artwork in Collected Visions, so its even more of a case of guesswork what was available when than Power Armour is. We know that Terminator Armour was only beginning to be introduced at the very end of the Great Crusade, and we know that it was rare. The fact that the vast majority of suits in the Collected Visions have the lorca segmenta shoulder pads suggests that these were the first suits supplied to the Legions and other suits were incredibly rare or unavailable altogether.

However, given the rapid development of Power Armour during the heresy it seems likely a similar rapid evolution of Terminator armour took place. My own personal assumption is that around the time of the fall of Mars/before the Siege of Terra the more 'modern' suit was developed. This would have made it available to the Loyalist Legions that were involved in the Siege (i.e. BA, WS and IF - hence the 'modern' Fists Termi in the artwork) and possibly the Traitor Legions involved in the Siege as well. After all, if the modern type was developed before the Armour Workshops were evacuated to Terra then there would have been suits available to the Traitors from Mars.

It may not be gospel, but surly Gagoc's time line must be of some indication of what shoulder pads were available when....

The Termies from Space Hulk all have the Crux Terminatus, which a post Heresy device.
Which is why I converted them on my SH termies to the Veteran/Terminator Honours cross.

As for the actual armour, it is always possible that prototypes of what we know as the current, Indomitus pattern of Terminator armour existed in the final days of the Great Crusade.

I find the crux ugly as it is and plan to get rid of it and i may modifie the faces in Pre Heresy more

And i plan to also have a group of termis with the more Pre Heresy Pads aswell
