Title: Pre-heresy events & gaming
Whitehorn - October 29, 2009 12:17 PM (GMT)
I trust the Gedren event was a success and everyone had a good dose of the Pre-Heresy fun that we all crave for. Sadly I couldn't attend, though I would have liked to!
The next known organised event of this nature is Tempus Fugitives' Siege of Terra in May. That's 7 months away. While I am striving to build and paint my forces for this event, I feel like I am wishing my life away just waiting for it to happen.
I know there's rumblings of more events to be run by the TGC and affiliates in the future, but I'd like to bring such a discussion to the public. Particularly as I am a member of said public :)
For certain, I would like to see and attend more events. Whether they are TF/TGC driven or just a gathering of fellow gamers who share the interest. The obvious stumbling blocks are time and location. Something as grandeur as a TF event held at WHW gathers enough people and prestige that you all travel from afar to attend. Gedren has shown that smaller events can also draw in members from afar, so the will is definitely there and it can only grow stronger!
On a personal level, I am able to provide my club's venue in Tamworth (Staffordshire) on Saturdays for an all-day event. I am sure there are various other sites, including the obvious Warhammer World (Nottingham) and Games Shop (Aldershot).
This is really just to start an open discussion with a few seeded questions - do you want to see more events and meets? How far and frequently would you travel?
H-Gate - October 29, 2009 04:51 PM (GMT)
The Gedren Prime event was an amazing success in my opinion so i would definately be up for any more meetups that there are in the future...
I think that Shroud will run another official event but im not sure on how often he intends on these being run. I think he and Titus Pullo will pobably need some rest after all of the time spent on this one!
I think the key to getting people to travel is to have a really strong idea of how everything is going to be planned out, and for it to be a two day event with a bit of a social in the middle. It doesnt need to be a full on campaign ike Gedren was for a meetup for some games but I guess you need to make sure that you are getting 'value for travel'. I think the social is an important bit too as it gives you the chance to talk about stuff away from the table, and... erm, drink loads of beers!
I've got no trouble coming to Warhammer World or to Tamworth for a weekend but I probably couldnt do it for a day. I guess the same would be said for you guyscoming down south! In terms of frequency, as often as I can!
Is SoT really 7 months away!!? We need to do something before that!!!

Exactly. Sometimes I worry that after the next 2 TF events (2 events in 12 months!) a lot of the custom stuff I've built will be sulking over what to do next.
I know most of you are willing to do more and I think it's pretty much a certainty that Shroud will maintain running events in the future.
Interesting you highlight 2 days and understandable for the longer distance too. I will of course find out if my local venue is available - not having looked into Sundays before as we have permanent storage and room on the 1st floor of a church.
Yes, we have to refrain from screaming Khorne chants if there are other people in the church, but they do make lovely bacon sarnies on Saturday mornings ;)
King Fluff - October 29, 2009 05:42 PM (GMT)
As a member of the same gaming club as whitehorn I would be obviously interested in helping out with the mechanics of the day, I'm pretty sure that I could secure a venue for 2 days also but it'll be in a scout hut and not many pubs or accomodation near.
having said that I may be able to secure something in Coventry if the church can't accomodate the sunday - would perhaps just be a case of asking around the people I know - might even get some store guys to stop by.

I'd love to see something like an open-form "Pre-Heresy Gaming weekend" where we all just meet up and play PH games, without any real storyline. We could aim to have these every few months, in different places?
I intend to have another event in the new year (maybe February?) and something bigger at WHW in the summer.
If we can collaborate with our GT members (Dargor etc?) then we could have PH gaming/social meet-ups to coincide with those.
It'd be cool to see some of our overseas members coming along, bringing family and hangers-on to take in the touristy things while they get all PH-geeky! :D
H-Gate - October 29, 2009 05:57 PM (GMT)
Sounds good to me... Someone start organising it already!!!
Titus Pullo - October 30, 2009 08:48 AM (GMT)
Learnings from Gedren event seem to be for a story line event (or anything more organised than just a gaming session) then organisers must know who is coming and what army they are bringing. I think me and the shroudmeister will be very happy with a few 'gaming session' events as a bit of R&R which also being a bit more informal mean a bit more time for a socialness too. (Mr Gate and myself were pretty Imperial Army-ed out by 3.00 on Saturday.)
Kidjal - October 30, 2009 10:07 AM (GMT)
I'd be up for being involved in this. I third the use of our club being a good idea.

Well the Games Shop is always at this forums disposal - I know its 'down south' but as we now know one of my regulars runs a hotel, so i am sure we can sort something out with him accomodation wise (its about a 15min walk from the shop!!)
I already have some plans for the next event, which I need to run past Shroud
My idea will mean using the big room on floor 2 (for those of you who now know the shop layout!!)
ahriman - October 30, 2009 10:44 PM (GMT)
Where about downsouth are you? As if your not too far away from plymouth then i may be intereted in coming along.
Pacific - October 30, 2009 10:59 PM (GMT)
Basically the people writing 'south' are the ones for who anywhere south of Derby is 'the south'. :D
To me its in the east! :)
the buzz - October 31, 2009 01:09 PM (GMT)
Ahriman - the shop is in Aldershot, Hampshire - so about a 4 hour drive from Plymouth !!
Hero of Istvaan - November 1, 2009 06:42 PM (GMT)
Im always up for meet-ups, be-it for social games or story lined!
so its pretty sure theres enough people willinging to get involved, so enough talk, PLAN, PLAN, PLAN, ALREADY! :P
ShroudFilm - November 1, 2009 07:32 PM (GMT)
Well, since the interest is definitely there... I will get something sorted ASAP!
I have two big bits of work at the moment, hopefully easing up by the end of the week. After this, I will make enquiries on all fronts.
Hero of Istvaan - November 1, 2009 08:08 PM (GMT)
Awsome! :D
im probly biast because i live 10mins away but i think The Buzz's shop is the ideal place as we all found out at the "Gedren" event
Mortarion - November 1, 2009 08:11 PM (GMT)
god willing I will be able to come to the next one, I only couldnt make this one as I'd just got back from holiday
Lucius - November 1, 2009 08:38 PM (GMT)
Depending on the location I be up for another event.
The fluff from the Gedren event left it open for a sequel. I may also have time to do some converting - (Not the Emperor kind :D )
the buzz - November 1, 2009 11:05 PM (GMT)
Laurie - Check you Facebook emails !!
Ilmarinen - November 1, 2009 11:19 PM (GMT)
I'd like to come to some 30k events, seeing as I'm putting together a Heresy-era army. Still painfully slow progress, but once it's made I'll certainly want to use it. :)
Whitehorn - November 2, 2009 11:29 AM (GMT)
As a side note to official events, I am planning to visit WHW a few times before AOTE3 along with a few fellow AOTE players from my club. My intention is to test our armies using the TF rules in preparation for the main event and of course enjoy our efforts in making both the armies and lists. It should also inject some much needed motivation towards getting armies built and painted
To those interested, i will keep you updated on dates for this should you wish to join up with us and share a few beers.
Mortarion - November 2, 2009 05:59 PM (GMT)
that sounds good horn, id probably be up for that sortof february time ish, once ive got a bit more done
King Fluff - November 2, 2009 10:32 PM (GMT)
bagsy not driving then :P
ShroudFilm - November 2, 2009 10:53 PM (GMT)
Some sort of "official" TGC pre-AOTE meetup at WHW sounds like a great idea... shall we organise a weekend for early 2010?
Hero of Istvaan - November 2, 2009 11:07 PM (GMT)
yeah, deffinately! :D
im rather up for that, so long as its a weekend rather than a day so as to make it worth while for people that have to travel
Whitehorn - November 3, 2009 12:27 AM (GMT)
ShroudFilm - November 3, 2009 12:31 AM (GMT)
I know you're a gamer...!
Vinnie - November 6, 2009 10:03 PM (GMT)
Oh man, how did I only just notice this thread?!
Anything you guys fancy organising I'd deffinitely be up for, time and money providing.
As for social games that are a little less plot intense, we could just proxy some of the battles already mentioned in the Heresy series so far... for example, Marines versus Marines could represent the battle at the Precentor's Palace on Istvaan III or the Dropsite Massacre. If we have 'Nid or Ork players, then the Murder campaign, or Ullanor respectively.
This gives us a rigid start/end situation where everyone already knows the outcome, but gives us the opportunity to convert some cool stuff, immortalise our favorite characters in metal and plastic, and crank some really fun and contextually appropriate games. You know, all the stuff us hobbyists live and breathe for.
Just an idea I thought I'd throw out. :P
dark_claw - November 7, 2009 08:35 AM (GMT)
i'll be up for that and i dont live far away either :)
my pre heresey army is Istvaan III loyalists so i have a few deathguard, emp child luna wolves and world eaters. i know the DG where not fighting with them but i wanted them to be present as they where in the same battle
Hero of Istvaan - November 9, 2009 07:21 PM (GMT)
is there any news on this yet? any dates?
it'd be a shame to let it fizzle into nothing <_<
maybe all of us interested should post dates of wen we're able to attend?
im pretty much free from now till xmas and beyond so anytime is good for me
ShroudFilm - November 9, 2009 07:24 PM (GMT)
I have started checking venues and dates, but in all honesty this will most likely have to wait until I get back from working away for the rest of this week.
Announcement to follow.
