Smokey - February 10, 2008 05:44 PM (GMT)
Dark Angels, I love their whole knightly approach yet they're still so secretive and mysterious. Especially later on in their history where they go all monk styles because they're caught in between doing the right thing and doing what is sometimes essentially heartless yet they are things that they feel must be done. Close second for me if not a tie is the Night Lords, they just scream the whole Frankenstein monster visage of " i hate what i am but i do what i do because i have to" and you just have to pity them but at the same time resent them because they essentially are just monsters and killers.

Rogal Dorn - February 10, 2008 06:29 PM (GMT)
Imperial Fists

in old fluff it was dorn that killed the brother that slew the emperor, and in new fluff he was the crusader after vengeance. i love this legion because the fluff is great, and in the fluff were #1 best legion...literally...at least by what ive read(not wikipedia)

ShroudFilm - February 10, 2008 06:53 PM (GMT)
You can have up to 15 choices in a poll... I've added some more.

World Eaters, baby! Most of us wear our legion colours for all to see on here... :D

Fulgrim - February 10, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
Obviously Im going with the boys in purple, which in ancient times was a sign of nobility (hint hint) :P . There the best warriors and they have a greco-roman influences which makes them even better in my book.

Angron - February 10, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
The sons of Horus of course, they are the best clean and simple.
No fancy dancing around with swords, just a clean punch in the face.
Course the Eaters come close second, too bad theyre a tad religious for my taste....

Vredesbyrd - February 10, 2008 10:34 PM (GMT)
I've cast my vote with the Emperor's Children. I originally started with them because I have a Chaos Space Marine Emperor's Children Army and I wanted to do a Pre-Heresy Emperor's Children Army. Then I read 'False Gods' by James Swallow and was just taken by the imagery and nobility of the Emperor's Children. 'Fulgrim' helped reinforce this I must say, especially the earlier chapters.

A close, close second has to be the Death Guard - I love their stoic nature, and like the Emperor's Children they're major players in 'False Gods' which is far and away my favourite Horus Heresy novel, and Battle Captain Nathaniel Garro is, alongside Saul Tarvitz (Emperor's Children) and Garviel Loken one of my favourite characters.

One day I'll build a Luna Wolves army too, Garviel Loken is just too cool not to build an army with him in, and I do really like the idea of having my own Mournival.

'Children Of The Emperor. Death To His Foes!'

'Count The Seventh!'

'Lupercal! Lupercal! Lupercal!'

ghostmaker - February 11, 2008 12:10 AM (GMT)
Love Emperor's Childeren

After Reading Fulgrim Made me sad and makes you relaize that it was sad what happend wont say any spoilers

My 2nd would have been Death Guard also just dont want to paint White (gritty white) There more my style but i jsut love the Fluff for the EC

Well yea glad i could see yall's answers

Benedict Arnold - February 11, 2008 12:47 AM (GMT)
The Death Guard are my personal favorite, with the Salamanders coming in a close second. The Iron Warriors are also in the running.

Manneus Drath - February 11, 2008 02:07 AM (GMT)
My favorite is the Iron Warriors. Their fluff is a bit sad; them spending most of the crusade trying to gain respect in the eyes of their peers and favor of the Emperor, only to be forced to fight the worst battles and having their legion stretched thin across the scars. Then the Olypia debacle.
And also I just like the seige stuff and look.
A close second for me would be Luna Wolves, just because they were the best of the best. They got the job done.

Fortronus - February 11, 2008 02:32 AM (GMT)
Mine's actully Dark Angel tho i'm finding myself warming up to AL alot now a days.
It came down to me and my friends pooled our moeny and picked up a bunch of mini's and all that was left where Marine and a Dark Angel command model. and that's what i got. Then at a gameing weekend my friend (the store manger at the time) had me bid on a random lot of mini's witch turned out to be half a compay of Dark Angels LOL.

Then i sat down and Read there back story and found that i loved them. The dark Secert and Lion himself. Witch side was the lion really on? all of it just made them really come to life and the more GW comes out with there Fluff the more i enjoy them. And I've rabbled enough there's my fav marines.

Yvraith - February 11, 2008 03:16 AM (GMT)
Luna Wolves for me.
The take that they have on how a battle should be fought, you don't have to look good as long as you get the job done. Which is how it should be done. Formal parades aren't necessary to be an effective fighting force.

Rudolf The Red - February 11, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
Night Lords

Because nothing scares the **** out of you like a night lord.
They just have this palpable aura of menace surrounding them, and the Night-haunter predicted the Heresy but no-one would believe him.

ghostmaker - February 11, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
aww no love for the ultra marines ? ??

Games Workshop has more than enough love for them, it'd be overkill for any players to actually like them.

ProteanSun - February 13, 2008 10:04 AM (GMT)
I vote dark angels!

Mostly for the monastic qualities of them. I like the dissention among the Order Marines and the Terrans (in so much as the issues created by the non-augmented marines, such as Luther).

Nathaniel Garro - February 13, 2008 10:33 AM (GMT)
Dark Angels too. I like them because they have a mystic aura and in my opinion a really stunning appearence. Furthermore I like the fluff of the first legion! ;)

For 40K I´m working on a EC Army for I like the fluff for the past heresy era. (Yes I confess, I´m an secret Slaanesh worshiper! Muahahahahaha) :D

Amendera - February 13, 2008 09:33 PM (GMT)
I voted Blood Angels and I'm glad someone else did, too!

While they are of course reputed to be mentally unstable, I tend to look at it from a different point of view - that they have tremendous mental strength evidenced by the fact that they have never fallen to Chaos despite everything that's happened to them. I don't know how consistent this is from prior fluff, but the HH artbooks indicated that while the curse manifested itself upon the death of Sanguinius, it actually originated earlier, on Signus, when Ka-Bandha, demon of Khorne, broke Sanguinius' legs and said "your legs will heal but this wound will always fester" then decimated the Blood Angels' force in seconds. As written it seemed the Legion was not the same after that and Horus killing Sanguinius just sealed it. So basically, Khorne attempted a large-scale corruption of the Blood Angels just as Slaanesh did the Emperor's Children, but rather than just jumping in with both feet like the EC's did, the Blood Angels continue to fight Chaos and actively work to seek a cure for their malady, rather than just accepting deterioration.

Lion El' Jonson - February 13, 2008 10:09 PM (GMT)
dark angels for me, of course  have always loved them, they were the first army i did too, but i do like the Iron warriors pre heresy as well...

Weiss - February 14, 2008 08:27 AM (GMT)
Too many of the Legions are really cool. I went with Iron Hands (I could hardly let the side down), I love their industrial look and their refusal of any weakness.

The Dark Angels, Word Bearers and Thousand Sons all come close second though.

Ekaddon - February 14, 2008 09:20 AM (GMT)
Hey there. The Emperor´s Children get my vote. I like everything about them. Their fighting style, their colours, their sad fluff.

The Death Guard gets my second vote, as I like their fighting style aswell (opposite to that of the ECs). Slow, but hard and heavy hitting. If I´d be a better painter I´d do a DG army too, but nay...

The Night Lords, Iron Warriors, Imperial Fists, Dark Angels and World Eaters kinda share my third vote. NL, IW and DA because I already own 40k armies and really dig their fluff, and IF and WE because they´re simply cool. :)

I voted Blood Angels and I'm glad someone else did, too!

That would be me.
My reasons are far less noble though. My 14yr old self decided when I bought Rogue Trader and the original plastic marine boxed set (Yep, the really cruddy ones). Because of the artwork and painted figs then, it was a straight shootout between Blood angels and crimson fists (who I also have a bit of an affinity for).
I stacked the plastic boys with every bit of sprue I could and daubed them liberally in red, except for the captain that I painted in camo colours like the GW artists did (the reality of this was that the red just didn't cover at all and the camo finish looked like I had rolled the figure in raw sewage but let's not spoil the moment!).
So I was hooked, there was no fluff or tragic flaw then, just new figures and cool colour schemes.
Oh yeah, I'm a Man Utd fan too, so the colours matched my team too

Topic is quickly disappearing over the hill and far away here. If you want to support naff English teams discuss it elsewhere.

After all the only team worth a damn are Hibs.

Ekaddon - February 14, 2008 11:40 AM (GMT)
Sorry Vred, won´t happen again. You´re right about the Hibs though. :) Looking forward staying in Edinburgh this autumn.

edit: Wish I could spell correctly...

off-topic over. :)

Good good. Mon the Hibs!

Brother Tiriel - February 14, 2008 11:47 AM (GMT)
Damn, will I be the only one to vote for Smurfs? xD

Don't know why, always loved vanilla marines! And by the way, saying that, they got as much personnality as other chapters. Being the "average" marine don't makes you tasteless ;)

If I could, I would have voted for a big bunch of legions as I don't really have any favourite one (maybe some I don't like though...), but since we can only vote fore one, it will be for one of the mis-liked ones ^^

Though, when you look closely, I would have voted only for loyalists ones, with few exceptions like the Thousand Sons (but they were loyalist until the Emperor turn the wolves one them, right? :P )

Weiss - February 14, 2008 12:10 PM (GMT)
Very true, Thousand Sons rock!

Ultramarines aren't vanilla anymore, they betrayed the whole idea behind them to make them more interesting... meh.

ghostmaker - February 17, 2008 03:50 AM (GMT)
Mine Are EC sad fluff DArk Angels Sadder Fluff and Word Bearers Really tradgic Fluff

Cool! Red is awesome! I thought about painting PH Thousand Sons in addition, but I decided my next legion should be a different color for variety... and besides I probably won't finish a tabletop force of PH Blood Angels for quite a while, at the rate I'm going.
:)

renlegunvrs - February 17, 2008 05:42 AM (GMT)
Night Lords. Basically because they were doing what they were told to do and betrayed by their father. Now all they want is revenge and vindication. They are the original "Traitor" marines as they were excomunicated before Horus fell. ( i like being first lol) I also like the fact that they dont worship chaos or use demons very much. ( i tend not to like demons and psyonics so it fits) They are the original bad boys. and hey one word sums it up......

Batman.

Manneus Drath - February 17, 2008 06:01 AM (GMT)
Hm actually I might have voted for the Ultramarines, since they were my first army. But seeing them on pretty much every space marine thing GW puts out kinda makes me tired of them.

Kharn - February 17, 2008 09:30 AM (GMT)
Death Guard because of their silent, deadly resolve and fighting tactics, and the fact that they dont bother with elaborate armor, ceremonies, or warcries, but are down-to-earth, hardbitten, footslogging marines

Torg - February 22, 2008 10:16 AM (GMT)
I voted Ultramarines, though I'd say any legion would do,heck go for them all
or a mixture!That's what I'm doing! :D

Kaleb 'Angelus' Dante - February 23, 2008 12:23 PM (GMT)
I voted Luna Wolves although i also really like the Iron Warriors and Dark Angels and often change my mind as to which i a doing.

CDR Grendelwulf - February 24, 2008 03:30 AM (GMT)
My vote is for the Dark Angels!
Who can resist gothic warrior monks?

I was first drawn to the concept of building Fallen DA and annoying all the purist DA players I could find by playing with the DA codex and not Chaos. Some would get so-o-o upset that I wasn't Chaos, it was funny. Who says psychological warfare doesn't help? :ph43r:

Secondly, I like them because I can build them as pre-heresy, Fallen, or current DA & successors as one big crusading army. Besides, I have to do something with all of the DA shoulder pads I have.

Third, I also have the choice to use the Deathwing & Ravenwing army lists.

Ciao,
CDR Grendelwulf
