Title: Scouts
Description: A Few Questions

Vredesbyrd - March 5, 2008 01:17 AM (GMT)
As you may've seen in my army blog I've recently acquired some Advanced Space Cruasde Scouts for my Emperor's Children. Now what I want to know is how you guys go about fielding Scouts in your armies - what you arm them with and unit sizes are the main things I'm wanting to know just to give me some ideas before I start chopping these guys up.

I'm not sure whether to field one squad of five, two squads of five or one squad of ten.

Any and all suggestions gratefully received.

i would say two squads of seven its a great size

Why's that then?

I can imagine it gives them better survivability over a minimum sized Squad like.

Hmm. No Sniper Rifles for these boys, not without alot of converting at least.

Bolt Pistol and Close Combat Weapon all the way, probably a Powerfist on the Sergeant to give them a better punch in combat (pun intended).

well i think one seven man squad would be a great addition to your army.

but 7s the number of Nurgle....and mr.perfection would say only 5 or 10

now theirs a paradox....well sort of

I would personally use them in the sniper role, hang them back with 4 sniper rifles and a hb. The way you'll be using, suggests to me that a full ten-man squad is needed or they won't reach the enemy lines... Or two squads of five would work as well...

See Sniper Rifles aren't really an option with these guys - it'd be too difficult to give them SRs, and I think they look alot more like Combat Scouts than Support.

I think I'll have them so that dependent on the size of game I can run between 5 and 14 of them, in any combination of sizes. Though 12 is a tempting number - 2 squads of 6 - an indication of things that are to come....

The next codex will apparently only have 5 or 10 man options... so I'd say go with two squads of ten.

Infiltration becomes very useful when you don't have to worry about the squad actually surviving - lock an enemy unit with an early charge and you buy time for your main force to get into position.

Hmm only problem with that would be that I'd have to acquire some more ASC Scouts...back to eBay I go...unless some of you Golden Oldies have some you want to sell to me or trade for something.....

I think that I have 1 or 2 metal ones. I'm not sure whether they are "complete". I'll let you know.

Sorry - typo... I meant two squads of five, making ten altogether!

Ah...it makes more sense now (I was wondering why you were saying 10 men squads could die really quickly).

@Iacton - the more the merrier! :)
