Title: Ithmaril's PH World eater Legion
Description: Blood and Skulls for the Emperor!
Ithmaril - January 18, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
Greetings, fellow traitors! ;)
With the re-opening of my two relevant threads from the old boards (My TPH08 topic will follow soon), I’m preparing the move to this new place. I’ll stick around on the PH forum for a while and see what happens from now on, as there still are people over there I like and respect a lot, and don’t want to burn all bridges yet- so these threads will be updated over there, too, for a time. But you can consider this my new main base of operations, and if PHforum’s Admin continues his current policy of behaving like a jackass, I’ll call it a day and leave.
So, enough talk. Here’s a compilation of how far I came yet:

Love them all! I have to say, you and I are so alike in our interpretation of the WE... just wait until you see my new batch! :D
Vredesbyrd - January 19, 2008 02:59 AM (GMT)
Ace as ever!
Good to see you've made the jump across.
What've you converted your Terminator Reaper Assault Cannon from? It looks like a Necromunda Heavy Stubber from here....
rongo5051 - January 19, 2008 05:10 AM (GMT)
Some great models there man. I like Dreadnought. What are the legs on them from ? Looks like the Ed 209 legs from robo cop hehe.
rohanboi - January 20, 2008 01:14 AM (GMT)
also when are those termys guna get painted?
Falkus Kibre - January 20, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
Manneus Drath - January 21, 2008 04:29 AM (GMT)
Great, very...World Eater-ish. You world eaters are so predictable...with your "Blood and Skulls for (insert name of whomever our allegiance lies with at the moment)!!!"
Now, please, hurry and paint. :D
Horn - January 21, 2008 09:20 AM (GMT)
Can you give me a quick insight into how you do your blue - ie which colour do you use? I'm not happy with my own, so looking to get a deeper, darker colour like your own.
Also, are you painting from a white or black undercoat?
rohanboi - January 21, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
nice horn
open ur own thread :P with more pics :)
Rogal Dorn - January 21, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)

[Off Topic]
Teal'c is with us!
(sorry I couldn't prevent myself from saying this, I just watch some episodes :D)
[/Off Topic]
I really like your minis Ithmaril! the painting, though "table top" is very nice and clean, and it's really better than some screwed-up so-called "fine painting"
Updates anytime! :D
Ithmaril - January 21, 2008 11:58 PM (GMT)
First of all- thank you, Boi, Falkus, Shroud (I'm anxious!), Byrd, Rongo, Manneus, Dorn, and Tiriel.
@Vredesbyrd: It's a kind of autocannon with an improvised drum mag I've found in a pal's bits box, integrated into the assault cannon from the Temrinator sprue. Honestly, I don't know, but I can ask this guy if you like. Maybe he knows where it's from... it's a metal one.
@Rongo: Most of the Model, including the legs, is based on a Space Crusade Dreadnought. For the weapon arms, I've used Sentinel legs.
@Rohanboi: The order is: finish squad secutor - paint dread - paint command squad - paint termies.
@Horn: The Blue ist GW's Royal Blue, shaded 2 times with a drop of white in the colour. It's pretty simple, really... I use white undercoat with a grey wash for starters. Saves tons of time.
Although, I have to admit, I like your different approach on the WE's Blue... maybe because I like slightly turquoise-shaded blue, for starters.
@Tiriel: Thanks a lot, glad you like em, considering the fact that you are one of those crazy French guys with (from my viewpoint) unconventional techniques that turn out great in the end. Sometimes, it's a mystery to me how people can paint black dark angels over white undercoat- but considering the result... ;)
So, yeah. I'm at the end of my exam preperations right now... and most likely will quit before the tests themselves, because I learned to hate several aspects of my studies. It's a difficult time for me, so bear with me for a while, people. There will be real updates.
ShroudFilm - January 22, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
Stick with it, mate - both your WE and studies...
Vredesbyrd - January 22, 2008 02:15 AM (GMT)
Although we all know that the WE are far more important than the studies, they do have nasty habit of impinging on ones hobby time. If it wasn't for my exams I'd have a Tactical Squad up and ready, well that and if Forge World decided to start sending things out to customers again. They're my excuses and I'm sticking to them.
On the subject of the Reaper Autocannon, I'll have to see what I can kit bash to make my own Auto-Assault Cannon, because in Pre-Heresy games it'll be an Autocannon, but in games of 40K it'll be an Assault Cannon. I'm guessing that's what most of you tend to do?
So Ithmaril what's due to come next from your Munich Madhouse? More inspiring conversions with any luck. Good luck and have fun studying, I know I am.
Ithmaril - January 22, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)
@Shroud: Trying. But the feeling that what I'm doing right now is not what I want to do for a living grows larger. The WE ain't got nothing to do with it, they're on a hiatus at the moment, anyway.
@Vredesbyrd: I mostly use that things as Assault Cannons because I don't use the Chaos Codex and didn't try out Bell of the lost Souls' rules yet.
Yes, some conversions would be great fun, now- It's an aspect I like a lot better then painting... but as soon as I have some more time at my hands again, painting must be the priority. I've already made the mistake to build whole armies without painting them, hoping that I'll find the motivation as soon as they're finished, but that's how I ended up with several armies/warbands of different games which have only one painted squad or so. They mostly ended up sold.
Yay, new Avatar. Based on Brutus.
rohanboi - January 22, 2008 05:13 PM (GMT)
lol the banner is very nice too
also lets see the squad updates soon :)
ShroudFilm - January 22, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
Wow... your new sig makes me happy... :D
ShroudFilm - January 19, 2009 12:52 AM (GMT)
EDIT: Wow, a ONE YEAR NECRO! I should be ashamed...
Ithmarial: I hate to necro, but your conversions have become a fresh talking point in my WE discussion and I wondered if you are still working on the PH army?
Falkus Kibre - January 19, 2009 01:35 AM (GMT)
his last activaty was Jul 10 2008, 04:09 PM I dont think he is gonna reply.
Ithmaril - March 1, 2009 01:56 AM (GMT)
... and so, I appear from the shadows, just to prove you wrong. :P
No. Jeez. Seriously. What a coincidence. I'm back, and I not only just realized by chance that it's been exactly one year since my silent departure (due to drowning in a sea of "everything that keeps a wargamer from wargaming"), but also just read that post by shroud.
It took some days, but I guess he successfully summoned me. Hopefully by sacraficing several virgins. If I think about it, it has actually been something like 10 days ago, when I finally decided to get my hobby stuff out of the basement again...
Okay, now there's tons of plans, countless ideas, and generally huge amounts of stuff I could be writing about right now, but it's gotten late, and there will be plenty of time for that. Actually, my intent was to post some pictures instead of talking too much. And here we go. (webspace access proken atm, so I'll just pirate my attached warseer images. Yarr.)
http://warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?a...16&d=1235869364Combat squad 2, Assault Squad "Sectuor". Painted with half dried paints, brushes I hadn't stored properly, and really shitty lighting (harsh, yellow, coming from one direction. A nightmare) Damn you, winter... damn you, current workspace. But I pulled myself together and finished them off for now, and that's what makes me happy.
Completed squad:

Cheers,
Ith
ShroudFilm - March 1, 2009 02:06 AM (GMT)
Welcome back, man! These are still looking great.
Tarik Torgaddon - March 1, 2009 09:23 AM (GMT)
It's indeed great to have you back fellow World eater ;)
Ithmaril - March 1, 2009 01:30 PM (GMT)
It's good to be back. Thank you. :)
I've realized some time ago that I've never provided proper, clean pics of the painted scouts, so here they are.
http://warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?a...52&d=1235913134Now I just need to wait until some more of them turn up at the german ebay, for a prize I can afford... two conditions which turn this into a miracle, more or less. :D
ShroudFilm - March 1, 2009 09:50 PM (GMT)
Something that always makes me chuckle about WE scouts... how the HELL are they going to infiltrate anything dressed all in white? :D
Which is your sergeant then? Shuriken Joe or Boltgun Steve?
Ithmaril - March 2, 2009 03:14 AM (GMT)
Just ignore their ash & grass bases- My World Eaters are currently engaged in a campaign on Cheapexcuse III, where they're perfectly blending into the snowy terrain full of random, brightly blue trash. ;)
Shuriken Joe is actually laspistol or autopistol Joe, I think- the weapon lacks the characteristic disk structure, but that's not really visible in those pics, I admit. In the few games I did, I used that guy on the very right as the leader, because of that unique horned shoulderpad. He's also got an axe on his back, which gives him the meanest CC weapon in the whole squad. :D
So, is there anything I can contribute to that discussion you mentioned, Shroud?
ShroudFilm - March 2, 2009 10:20 AM (GMT)
In my soon-to-be-updated blog, you will see the fruits of that discussion... I am converting Angron's "Devourers" bodyguard in Terminator armour, with chainaxes and brass bucklers.
I started off with Bane Thrall shoulders but they looked a bit sparse so I went with dreadnought shins.
Ithmaril - March 2, 2009 02:01 PM (GMT)
Can't wait to see them. Might be a good decision, I'm going to rework those terminators before painting, myself. Most likely there'll be leather straps to compensate for those shoulder pads being a little on the flat side.
killjoy - March 4, 2009 04:20 AM (GMT)
ok for starters beautiful modles and you scouts are nice but make me laugh a lil but nice
and where did you get thos terme shoulder pades
im intrested in making a ph meganob with terme bitz :D
Ithmaril - March 4, 2009 11:53 PM (GMT)
Thank you.
They're Bane Thrall Shoulderpads from Privateer Press' Warmachine game.
Ithmaril - March 11, 2009 06:48 PM (GMT)
Just a quick little update on my current exploits, to prove that I'm back for reals- semester break turned out to be a pain so far, with lots of family matters, visits from friends, freelance work in between, and the Leipzig book faire coming up. (sounds like fun, but it isn't when you go there because of business reasons) And I thought stress will be over as soon as I've passed my exams. Oh, and by the way, I just seem to have catched a cold yesterday.
Actually, I'm exceptionally motivated to paint at the moment, I just can't.
Buuut: Things lighten up on the horizon. Beginning with next monday, the remaining 2 1/2 weeks of holiday I'll have will turn out less stressful, just some Uni work and a lot of illustrations, but that won't keep me from painting ~2 hours a day, I hope. Additionally, Vredesbyrd just sold me 7 more RT scouts, and after painting the dread and my HQ, they're gonna be converted into my next troop choice. You know, because my Tactical Assaulters switched into the FA league, thanks to 5th Ed, and besides letting be behind without my second troop unit, now even lack a rhino or drop pod, and a replacement marine for the Plasma. F*ruit* you, new Codex. Seriously, go f*ruit* yourself. I'd wish I wouldn't love my scouts so much, so that I could switch to the Chaos Dex.
Seriously, why do they even care to include something as cool as chapter traits, only to obviously remove it for the next edition of their game... yes, it was long known that this would happen. No, I won't just use the online BA dex. Just a matter of time until this one gets replaced, too. And when I rely on it, I'll be f*ruit*'d, again.
Gosh, okay, there I go again, venting about the most obvious of things. Sorry for that, guys.
So, anyway... I'll keep you updated.
Cheers,
Ith
swifty - March 18, 2009 10:03 AM (GMT)
Wow these are really nice!
Ithmaril - March 18, 2009 08:11 PM (GMT)
After finally deciding to use the new Codex, and also getting the urge again to play due to getting the new rulebook, my priorities have shifted. The almost-done captain miniature and a second troop choice will be finished next. I'll also have to build and paint a Rhino for my assault squad.
Luckily, Vredesbyrd helped me out with 8 more retro plastic scouts (Tyranid Attack/ Advanced Space Crusade). Now, normally I'm not very fond of cutting up and converting retro models (I'm a huge nostalfia buff), but these ones are just too static to not stand out from the rest of my army... so there will be conversions.
http://warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?a...41&d=1237406370I'm gonna use them to form two seven-man-squads, one based on the existing squad (pistols & CCWs), and one bolter squad with a heavy bolter.
Here's the first one. Just needs a little GS work to be finished. I've taken the trouble to do some drilling and pinning (something I'm quite new at) in order to redo the pose, and I'm happy with it so far.
http://warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?a...40&d=1237406370
Vredesbyrd - March 18, 2009 08:59 PM (GMT)
He's looking ace Ith, is he armed with a lasrifle of some sort?
I hadn't thought about converting these guys at all, but you've made him really dynamic and distinctive. My Scouts might have to holiday in Munich for some bodybuilding work.
Iacton - March 19, 2009 09:06 AM (GMT)
That quick conversion has certainly taken the static pose away, Ith.
I look forward to painty love for them :D
Ithmaril - March 19, 2009 04:06 PM (GMT)
Thank you, guys.
@Vredesbyrd: Autogun, methinks. And, yeah, I have thought about it before I got them, but they turned out to be much more conversion-friendly then I ever imagined. Okay, considering all the quite fitting IG parts I had lying around, that sure made it easier. :)
@Iaction: I don't. :D But it has to be done.
-
Turns out that I had so much fun converting those wee little angry boys that I pulled an all-nighter to get them all done. So much for "slow and steady". As soon as I enjoy working on a project, patience just goes overboard. ;)
Less talking, more pictures!

You already know the guy, here's the finished version. Seems like someone prefers to use an autogun in close combat, and keep those costly bolter shells for long range shooting.

Some sucky GS work I'll maybe fix up. But I really dig the pose.

The only way to make a retro miniature even better is to convert it with parts that are
even more retro.
Don't ask me how those strange white stuff got stuck in the GS, I have no clue. But it has next to none texture, so it's okay. Vox caster guy with binoculars- a recon squad needs that s**t, I suppose.

Heavy Bolter guy with huge backpack. Known for always yelling at the enemy way too long before opening fire. A miracle those guys still have the infiltrate rule, as all of them seem to be sreaming on top of their lungs. :D

The squad's veteran corporal, with a strange taste for weapon choices. He took that one away from an eldar teenager he beat up in front of a Wall Mart.

The squad's leader. I went for an "almost astarte" look, a veteran who shows those neophytes how things are done
the Angron way.
This guy will beef up the other, close combat scout squad, but can also still be used as a bolter marine if I want to get up the head count of this squad. Many scouts from both squads look like they will work either way, even the already painted, metal ones. It's good to have some flexibility.
I've also left one of them unconverted, to pay some respect to those nostalgic little buggers. He'll also become part of the CC squad. Figured it's not neccessary to post a pic.
So, here are the eight Scouts you saw above (who now form the bolter squad), plus the two who'll join the other one.

As you can see, I used most of the original heads, as they define the retro scout's look for me- and hell, you don't find much more diversity among the newer model line, anyway. What I had noticed with the metal scouts is the fact that their equipment looked very personal and individual, so I had no qualms at all to dive into my bits box and just pick out what I found cool. I'm very happy with the final results.
Ithmaril out.
Ithmaril - March 20, 2009 01:29 AM (GMT)
It's always fascinating how much a black priming helps to make a squad, constructed of many multicolor bits, look like one.
So, yeah, I've primed them, and will try something new this time. Instead of waiting days, maybe weeks, to find the time for a hours-long painting session, losing motivation in the process, I'll set them up in a corner of my desk, with a water glass, some brushes, and 2-3 colours. And every time I feel like it and have a spare 10-20 minutes (like work breaks, waiting for oven food, etc.), I'll get something done about them.
Here's the proof:

Let's see if that works.
Ithmaril - March 21, 2009 08:00 PM (GMT)
Based on the the scout's former owner's comment on the sergeant pose leaning too far over, I decided to just try it out, in spite of the fact I had already started the paintjob on him, although I personally didn't mind the pose too much.

Now, that's a double-edged sword, here: Because of the foot pose, he's now -really- tall. Es tall as an Astarte in PA, actually. Now, he's standing on a little hill, and his leg position is very straight (contrary to most astartes models having bent knees, as the scouts do, too). So, considering the fact that he IS supposed to be a fully modified Marine in scout armor, it could work. It's the age of the great crusade after all, a time period of overblown heroism and insane deeds, commited by barely human heroes and villians. Still not one hundred percfent sure, though...
On the other hand, I really, really like how much cooler the pose looks from this angle, and how hardcore he looks, also because of his size. If I ever field a pure scout force, he sure es hell will be their CO. ;) Additionally, You see much more of the base, which has enough open space on it for some creative modeling now.
So, what do you guys think?
On a different noter, painting whenever I have short timespans with nothing to do works surprisingly well so far. For me, at least. I've applied some basic blue and skin colour. They'd make some fine PH Night Lords atm, but that's gonna change soon.
ShroudFilm - March 21, 2009 09:15 PM (GMT)
