Title: the return of my truescale pre-heresy world eaters

dichotomancer - March 28, 2008 10:26 PM (GMT)
well ive posted these on a few other forums (including, i believe, the predecessor to this forum which kinda just disappeared...) so i thought it was about time to get these here; in a proper WIP forum, to get the opinions, crtiques and comments of more converty-minded people!

well the army started about october last year when i made a squad of marines:

im now startign work on a scratchbuilt pre heresy dradnought, whic will (hopefully) be followed by a terminator chplain, some scouts, and then more marines.

Yvraith - March 28, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
Damn they look big, they would intimindate the crap out of anyone seeing them set up in the other deployment zone!

Can't wait to see your commander and second squad painted.

Keep up the great work!

Yvraith - March 29, 2008 12:40 AM (GMT)

Rogal Dorn - March 29, 2008 02:22 AM (GMT)
truly amazing mate!

Iacton - March 29, 2008 11:03 AM (GMT)
Well, I didn't know anything of your work anywhere or anytime before, but now I do and it's flipping nice to have you and your obvious modelling skills on board.

Looking forward to seeing these guys painted up. *thumbs up*

ShroudFilm - March 29, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
Awesome, welcome back dude!

And yes the old forum did kind of disappear, didn't it? Blame the childishness of Captain "No One Loves Me So Bugger Off" Artimum...

BigWill - March 29, 2008 02:53 PM (GMT)
Wow what a difference a year makes.
Your g/s fu has improved greatly I love these WE
The Capt looks mean as hell

Magos Explorator - March 29, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
Those figures look brilliant!

Are you also known as Synapse on Warseer?

dichotomancer - March 29, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
yep thats me (how many people have you seem with marines like this? :P

i was thinking of giving the terminator a big lion head as a trophy on top of his. this owuld be similar to all the space wolf versions we've seen (just like that SW termie special character). you know like a trophy.

is that world eatery enough? or not at all?

EDIT: extremely WIP on the chaplain terminator, to give you an idea of the way he'll look (and please dont expect him to be sized like monstrous creature, cuz youll just be disappointed!).

dude theyre the best pre-heresy minis iv ever seen theyre awesome dude, cant wait to see the captain finished (one with the chainspear thing)

keep pics coming!

Falkus Kibre - March 29, 2008 05:18 PM (GMT)
Could you tell me how you did the white?

Maratheus - March 29, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
That terminator looks really promising.
The lion pelt is a really good idea but I don't think it fits too well for World Eaters. It looks a bit too noble on a killing machine.

a base of astronomican grey highlighted up to white. it v=covers the black fairly well

dichotomancer - March 30, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
small update and scale shot of the terminator.

the other truescale model is a blood angel im doing for another project and is there to show the scale with another truescale model (note: the blood angel is really standing upright, as you can probably see from the position of its legs, while the terminator is striding, and a bit mure hbunched, which detracts from the overall height)

Great to have you back mate :) . I've always thought that those WE of yours is amazing. Huge and imposing as space marines should be. And how's that commander coming along, he hadn't changed much since last time I saw him.

Falkus Kibre - March 30, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
WOW!! thats amazing.

could you give us a tutorial?

Angron - March 30, 2008 08:41 PM (GMT)
Mate thats just annoyingly good.
In my oppinion they are just a tad too big. Makes me think of Alph in Legion.

Vredesbyrd - March 30, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
Welcome back!

The layered armour on that Techmarine is just amazing. Is it just layers of g/s?

Looking forward to seeing progress on these guys.

dichotomancer - March 30, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
the techmarine chest and legs were just single blobs of GS sculpted into shape with a normal tool. im really pleased with the result.

Weiss - March 31, 2008 09:46 AM (GMT)
I've had to buy a new keyboard, it blew up once I dribbled on it too much. I absolutely LOVE the techmarine, he's going on my screensaver :D

Where does the collar for the terminator come from?

They do seem to be almost Inquisitor scale (well maybe not, but that's the impression they give next to other models...

I think the Lion would be a great idea. I don't think a warrior of any kind would pass up the chance to display an enormous lion he killed with his bare hands and teeth. Maybe just splatter it with lots of blood...

I love that guardsman by the way, what head did you use as the basis?

the collar is actually the top part of terminator armour suit, that frames the head, though i glued it on upside down since i didnt want the vents showing.

its true about the scale. sadly, i realised only too late that they are TOO big (i guess youd call them 35mm scale. or something like that. but keep in mind that very few of GW minis stand upright. as in a guardsman while being 6 ft tall is rarely depicted at that full height. for instance the guardsman i used as reference is in a pretty crouched pose. same with the ultramarine.

regarding the lion, im now all for it, though ive tried mounting the head on him though im not very pleased with the way it looks. ill need to juggle around with the fit a bit to make it look just right.

Weiss - March 31, 2008 10:22 AM (GMT)
Are you using the high elf cheriot lions? they look great, I'd be interested to know how it goes. I had plans to do a termi armoured BT Emperor's Champion with one of those lying across his shoulders.

dichotomancer - March 31, 2008 02:58 PM (GMT)
yeah the lion head will be from the lions pulling the chariot...

UPDATE

before i get to the pics, let me point out whats missing from this:

the ends of the tassles; thicker soles on the shoes; banner; lion head; cloak; purity seals. which must all wait unti lthe rest is dry. EDIT: And the base of course!

i like the loincloth, though it covers the thighs which i was really pelaaed with. the legs i really like, and are inspired by the chaplain i made for my angels of censure) though unfortunately his pose means theres those unsightly gaps between the first and second skulls... which sucks. maybe ill cover them with purity seals etc. ive now decided to remove the knees and just stick them directly to the shin, which will avoif that foul looking gap

im pleased with the crozius, even though the teeth are not equal in size, but that wont matter once its covered in blood

the chest probably needs something else on it but i really cant think of much
and the feet really arent that small. really. its the angle!

anywho:

He's looking very promising, can't wait to see how the lion fits. For the chest, I would go for either more cables (I am Iron Hands after all, we love our cabling... :D) or some kind of sculpted/painted lions/more skulls (though he seems to have plenty of those already).

Another idea that just occured to me, not sure how good it would be, but heck. Stick spikes all over the clear bits on his chestplate. Could imagine him barrelling into the foe ogre-style...

dichotomancer - March 31, 2008 03:27 PM (GMT)
can never have too many skulls!

though im not too keen on spikes. looks too chaosy i think

Ekaddon - March 31, 2008 03:59 PM (GMT)
Holy crap. Those are some of the cooles PH or say Space Marine-minis in general I´ve ever seen. Congrats, amazing work!

dichotomancer - April 1, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
not really part of the WE army (actually its a blood angel im making) though i though i might as well show it off here since i used in a scale shot earlier on and few people mentioned it:

i still need to work on the left arm, the bling, and more details on the cloak
C&C, as always, more than welcome, as are suggestions.

The GS is WIP, isn't it ? Otherwise you should get an excuse for becoming lazy after making some great models :P

Seriously, I like him and can't wait to see him finished.

And, I love your Terminator, but his feet seem to be ridiculously small, I don't think the angle can make that much of a difference...you should bulk them up ;)

Anyway, the coolest WE that I've seen till now, let's see a Dreadnaught :D

dichotomancer - April 1, 2008 09:23 PM (GMT)
the feet (even though i increased the length and width by like .33% with grey stuff) really do look small, but the photos make them look tiny. also the pics really make the shins look wide - theyre not that bad, and i have also shaved them down a bit since taking the pic.

and yeah the bA is still WIP, though most of the actual Green stuff (as opposed to the grey stuff) is done

@Basilus: love the avatar! have a link?

There is something truely awe inspiring about this picture:

I think it just comes down to how fantastic they look in the increased scale. The flamer just blows me away, and the fact that everything is scaled up except the heads I think actually does wonders. It makes the head suddenly become perfect scale, colour me highly impressed. Makes me want to throw out what I've started and begin again from scratch, though I would take forever!

Rogal Dorn - April 2, 2008 06:06 AM (GMT)
comeon mate! im dying for a tutorial!!

dichotomancer - April 2, 2008 08:35 AM (GMT)
this is a prettty comprehensive tutorial for the normal marines

and a small update showing the finished chest, smaller legs, bigger feet, and wip on lion pelt

I love it, he looks great, although I think he could do with the second armour plates underneat the dread shins (don't know how hard that would be to achieve at the current stage though). The lion head looks damn good draped up there. Are you going to add big fangs to the front?

Thanks for the tutorial by the way. And nice dread. I'm not sure about the scale, though it does make sense that he be not that big, I always imagined them to be the size of a small building, but now I'm finding that size to be quite appealing...

dichotomancer - April 2, 2008 09:40 AM (GMT)
yeah, fangs will be added later, and i was actually thinking about adding another pad beneath the dread shins, though tbh iu dont think theyre necessary, but theres no harm in trying
