Ok guys, we have started to receive spam again, and given the... visceral nature of some of the pictures, I've decided to implement a new scheme to get rid of the bum-sniffing spambots! :D

Basically, anyone who joins the forum will go straight into the 'Members' group, only now this group has lost its Topic privileges. Members can still reply in other threads, but they can't start new ones.

When a member reaches 5 posts, they are automatically promoted to the new 'Imperial Citizens' group, which is exactly the same except they can now start topics again. Simple eh? :P

Hopefully this will mean that the weird Russian/Polish/Nigerian freaks who write this crap (oh yes guys, I can see your IP addresses!) will be doomed to endlessly sign up for our forum, without being able to post. Makes us look good with more members, too...

If anyone notices a problem with this system, please contact me. I know a few of you have had issues signing in of late, and I think Invision has been freaking out about the number of banned IP addresses and started blocking our real members too... I'm on the case!

Excellent job Shroud! I remember you proposed something like this on the old fourm (a two-week waiting period, I think). And thanks for taking that topic down...it was rather unwelcome. And now I can be an Imperial Citizen; do I get rights and priveleges, like free healthcare? :lol:

That sounds good--it might be worth mentioning this in an email to newly-registered members, or else you could find yourself with lots of PMs about posting problems. ;)

I have no idea how to make the first 5 posts someone makes need checking by a mod, otherwise that'd be ideal, and would eliminate the possibility of spambots replying with filth.

Let's test this, and see what happens. Those geekier-than-us spammers will undoubtedly find a way eventually...
