I know that there weren't assault cannons at the time of the Heresy but i have to be WYSIWYG for tournys.I just say that they are prototype weapons, new toys for the Emperor's kids to play with... ;)

These are looking very promising, if they continue to be at this standard I think you'll be a very happy man. As I've said elsewhere, I really like the colour you've got on your armour, do you think you could write a tutorial for our Tutorial Section when you paint your next Marine please?

The only thing I'd change would be to remove the little 'pod' power pack from the Dire Avenger Exarch power weapon as I think that detail ties in quite strongly visually with the Eldar range.

Also can I ask where you get your resin bases from for your Terminators? They look quite amazing.

Lion El' Jonson - May 26, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
Very nice! nice shade of purple mate. My only gripe us the assualt canons on the Terminators, but since they have those very nice shoulderpads I'll let it slide :P

I see some very promising work, keep us posted and possibly do a tutorial for thsoe shoulders? B)

Ezekyle Abaddon - May 27, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
Love everything about these guys! Termies look excellent, I will stay tuned to this topic for more updates.

keep doing what your doing :D

SQ - May 27, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
Really really nice! :D If you paint them all as nicely as you painted Saul then you're gonna have one hell of a kickass army! :D

I have a question however, and that is what you use for your Terminator basing, what are they standing on? I really like it B)

Dargor - May 27, 2008 08:37 PM (GMT)
The bases are from micro art studios, and i got them from http://www.wargamesworkshop.co.uk/ProductL...ID=77&GrpID=415 . I plan on having the entire army on such bases as its themed after the Loyalist stand on Istvaan III,i think they represent the ruins of Precentor's palace pretty well.

On a sidenote, thanks for all the comments once again and for the great welcome to the forum! :)

Dargor - May 27, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
Just to sate your need for updates...Here is a wip pic of some marines of the first squad. :)

Microart Studios, eh? I shall have to investigate further. I wonder how well they fit on the Privateer Press bases...

Yay! More Emperor's Children getting painted. Purple for the Purple God! Mauve for the Throne of Mauve! Too much 'Relentless' for Vred I feel......

Falkus Kibre - May 28, 2008 01:28 AM (GMT)
These are some of the best models i've seen on this forum in a long time.

Tarik Torgaddon - May 29, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
I really like the color scheme, exactly how the EC's armour should look like. Also the models look ace.

I'm looking forward to see more of your minis.

Massaen - May 31, 2008 08:03 AM (GMT)
i love the colours & 'feel' the models have so far but since i am doing the same project i have 1 little gripe - where are the imperial eagles on the chest plates? The EC were the only astartes to wear it an they all did...

Dargor - May 31, 2008 04:49 PM (GMT)
Heres a small update.I finished one of the marines,re-based the test mini and started painting some terminators too.All in all, pretty decent progress considering IA:5 Siege of Vraks and Age of Conan got in the way.. ;)

Dargor - May 31, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
Thanks to all for your comments!

Massaen, the cover of Fulgrim doesn't show everyone with an eagle on his chest,so i went with that one.Be sure that plenty marines will have their eagle though! B)

Yvraith - June 1, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
They look really good, Dargor.
The only thing I'm not a fan of is the use of Mk VI helmets.

Termi's lood good too.
Keep up the good work! :D

Iacton - June 1, 2008 08:28 AM (GMT)
Those termies look superb Dargor!

They will really work well when finished.

The rest of the troops are all excellent quality, and I agree, even the smurfs don't all wear the same armour, so why should the ECs :D

Massaen - June 2, 2008 03:14 AM (GMT)
Dargor - fair enough, the models look awesome! I have had real problems getting the eagle chest for the 70 odd marines i am fielding! Have you considered the small brass etch from forgeworld - the eagles are small enough to go on helmets and knee pads!

Dargor - June 2, 2008 06:57 AM (GMT)
Thanks guys!

Yvraith, not to worry, there wont be so many Mk6 in the army.I'll have 3-4 of them in total to represent the EC always getting some of the best (experimental) stuff first.Being the favoured Legion of the Emperor has its previleges after all... :D

Massaen, not until you mentioned it mate, nice idea... ;)

Cheers all!

Massaen, not until you mentioned it mate, nice idea... ;)

No Problem - the 100+ you get for a few pounds i have found perfect for customising each marine. Knee Pads, Helmets, Bolters, backpacks - fiddly to place but they work soooooo well!

Crazy_Irish - June 6, 2008 07:08 AM (GMT)
very nice work there! just one or two questions ;-)

how did you paint them, and what colours have you used to high-lighten them?

and did you paint the wing on his shoulder pad?

keep up the good stuff!

Dargor - June 24, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
Hello all!Been on vacation lately, hence the lack of updates...I finished another two marines today, that leaves just the heavy weapon guy for the first combat squad to be complete.I intent to have the shooty half standing still and providing covering fire, while the combat half making a run for it!
Note:I noticed after taking the pics that the MkIV's leg purity seal isn't painted blue, its done now! ^_^

i would like to second the call for the painting method - more the purple then anything.

I am using Liche & warlock with various stages of mixes and it makes the purple more pinky then the purple you have... how did you do it?

I also love the extra details - the bolter round in the clip is particularly nice - how did you do that?

Dargor - June 25, 2008 06:50 AM (GMT)
The purple on the armour is done thus:
1)A couple of thined coats of Hormagaunt puple on all armour areas, except for the recesses.
2)1 part hormagaunt purple/2 parts Warlock puple/1 part water all over the previous layer.
3)Add white to the previous mix for first stage highlights.
4)Add more white for second stage highlights.
Always keep your paint thin with water to get a smooth finish.

The bolter round in the clip is green stuff.

Crazy_Irish,yes the Legion symbol is painted on.

Cheers! :)

Weiss - June 25, 2008 07:50 AM (GMT)
They look great! Consider the reloading pose stolen! :D

Crazy_Irish - June 25, 2008 08:38 AM (GMT)
Very nice on the Legion symbol, could you make a small Tutorial on that? ;-)

Vredesbyrd - June 25, 2008 09:48 AM (GMT)
More amazing, inspirational stuff. I can't wait to get cracking on mine once we've finished decorating, definately going to have to give your purple a go like.

Very nice, but I think the gold would look better with a bit more dark shading in it.

Crazy_Irish - June 27, 2008 05:08 PM (GMT)
Looking very goood!
I realy like Lascanon guy!

and just to keep the question in the room,

could you make a small totorial on the symbole? looking great!

Angron - June 27, 2008 06:24 PM (GMT)
Perfection mate perfection. Could need a tad corruption but as they say "all good thing.." :P

Dargor - June 28, 2008 09:15 AM (GMT)
;) Thanks guys!I'll get working on the tutorial for the Legion symbol...

Iacton - June 28, 2008 10:32 AM (GMT)
They are sexy in a non-Slaanesh yet kind of way Dargor! :D

Really like the look of your bases too.

Great work, keep it going.

Dargor - July 4, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
Cheers for the replies all! Here's the Legion symbol tutorial,it's my first tutorial so go easy on me! The paint i use is watered down Iyanden Darksun.

A tutorial for painting the armour will be coming next,as soon as i get off my butt to start the next squad. ;)

Cheers!

Crazy_Irish - July 5, 2008 02:05 PM (GMT)
couldn't be easyer XD Thanx for the great tutorial! Small and Symple

I will try it out as soon as i can ;-)

Dargor - July 7, 2008 02:37 AM (GMT)
Here is the tutorial on how to paint the armour:

Step 1)
After the black undecoat the model gets a couple of thinned coats of Hormagaunt Purple.Taking care not to paint inside the recesses would be good but not necessary.
user posted image

Step 2)
A coat of 1 part Hormagaunt Purple/2 parts Warlock Purple was painted over the previous one.Again, remember to thin your paint to get a smooth finish.Don't worry to much about covering parts other than the armour or the recesses,it will be taken care off in the next stage.
user posted image

Step 3)
1 part Chaos Black/2 parts water are painted in the recesses, where the armour plates join, etc. Also all non purple areas are painted Chaos Black.
user posted image

Step 4)
A mix of 1 part Hormagaunt Purple/2 parts Warlock Purple/1 part White is used as the first stage highlights.
user posted image

Step 5)
A mix of 1 part Hormagaunt Purple/2 parts Warlock Purple/2 parts White is used as the second stage highlights.I use Vallejo white, but Skull White can also be used.
user posted image

Step 6)
Brazen Brass and Boltgun metal are used for the metalic areas.Boltgun metal parts get a Black ink wash and a light overbrush of Chainmail.
user posted image

Step 7)
Watered down Vallejo Brass is painted over the gold areas, then an equal parts Vallejo Brass and Mithril Silver highlight over it and finally a Gryphonne Sepia glaze over that. The eyes are painted Mordian Blue and highlighted by a 50-50 Mordian Blue and White.A single dot of White is added on the back of each eye.Squad number is painted with white and the Legion icon using the above tutorial.

Thats it then, hope it helps someone... :) I didn't mention anything about the base because bases vary from army to army.If there are 2 things to remember, its 1)Always keep your paint thin and 2)Practise makes perfect.

Cheers!

Crazy_Irish - July 7, 2008 08:59 AM (GMT)
Very nice, thanx. I'll try it myself sometime!

Good work!
