Title: The Official EUROVISION Thread
Description: Pera country, 2008
Matys - March 8, 2008 12:36 PM (GMT)
A record number of 43 countries will be represented at the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest. The show, to be held in Belgrade in 2008, will be organised with two Semi-Finals. The proposal was presented by the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group and accepted by European Broadcasting Union Television Committee at their 50th annual meeting in Verona last week.
The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest running television shows in the world. It was on the 24th of May, 1956, that Europe saw the first ever Eurovision Song Contest. After 52 runnings, the contest is one of the most typical European traditions.
For Americans, the show will be live broadcasted through the Eurovision website.

Has it gone over your head, dear?
It's meant to show how fucking ridiculous and pathetic the whole thing has become, so I guess Eurovision loons wouldn't be into it really.

I have to say this also. People who get excited and follow the Eurovision genuinely weird me out.
There, I said it.

I am in complete shock that France will sing in English!! for the first time ever!!
and Cyprus is singing in Greek so there's another scandal, and I believe Estonia has lyrics in Russian which is pissing the other 2 Baltic states off..
Bosnia is a major dissapointment for me, Bulgaria shouldn't be singing in English
Croatia needs to be BOMBED for their entry

I don't understand the UK.. the last 10 years they have really been putting so much effort in sucking it's amazing..
The UK has an amazing music scene, yet they send some seal-look-a-like to the Eurovision with a crap song.
+ he is black, so don't expect him getting any points from any countries
bulletproof_heart - March 8, 2008 01:06 PM (GMT)
Maybe because its professional suicide :chuckle:

Exactly. Serge, you've got to realise that nobody takes this seriously anymore. No genuinely talented act would want to enter it.
Do you actually think it's a real contest of musical talent?

Irelanderishes are just bitter because they always end up in a fabulous 793th place. Just like the Netherlands, everyone here hates Eurovision now. :lol2: And if they think ESC is stupid, why pay the sky high entrance fee? It's not compulsory to enter, Italy stopped competing years ago.
Back on topic, will Ukraine enter with an equaly out of this world act like they did last year?
The Belarus guy, Dmitry Koldun, was hot.

Just kidding. 1996 was indeed the last time they won. After that it went downhill.
1 (1996) - 2 (1997) - 9 - 17 - 6 - 21 - 11 - 23 - 10 - 24...

You're still not getting it.
We realised a while ago that it didn't matter even remotely about the calibre of the song or the artist, so what's the point even trying anymore? It's all about block voting and making a fool of yourself to win.
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Well in the East the festival is really something. Like people go outside and dance on the streets if their country wins. The excitement is huge, just like football fever.

If you can't beat them, LEAVE! There are already way too many countries competing nowadays. Austria left as well, so it's not that weird.

Do you think so? Who will dance on the dam apart from you and me? Only a bunch of 50-year-olds and some queens looking for a date. People hate Eurovision with passion. I hope Holland ends last place, they deserve it. :voodoo:
SrkiSrle - March 8, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
yes I am sure that there will be an organisation, and yes I hope holland get's one of the last places too lol
unless the song is actually good, which I don't know.. is Hind performing? she has a very nice voice..

Out of all people, YOU didn't watch the national selection? :drama:
Anyways, this is the song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0uozrjHXQoIt's a fine but a bit boring song. The oriental production might do good in countries like Greece and Turkey but overall it lacks sparks.
