Title: New Sophie Ellis-Bextor album in September!

Riverwide - April 21, 2008 01:59 PM (GMT)
From a new interview:

Have you finished the new tracks for the Greatest Hits?
Well, because I've got so much material together that we're really happy with, I'm actually going to push on and make a fourth studio album, rather than a Greatest hits.

Wow, that's quite big news.
I'm really happy about it, to be honest. The Greatest Hits will come after the studio album now. I feel like after I've done the Greatest Hits, I'd quite like to try a bit of a new direction. But I'm enjoying doing the dance-y pop stuff too much to leave it behind just yet!

How much of the new album is finished?
I would say somewhere between a third and a half.

So four or five songs?
Something like that. I've probably got more than that, but I'm not sure which ones I'll end up using.

Who have you been working with?
I've been going back to a lot of people that I've enjoyed working with before. So I've done more stuff with Dimitri Tikovoi and Liam from the Sneaker Pimps. I might be working with Greg Alexander again too, which would be really cool.

Do you have any gig plans in the diary?
No, not at the moment. It's all just about getting this album done.

When are you thinking that will be out?
Well, ideally September sort of time, but that's still very much up in the air. But I definitely want to push on with it.

Have you got an idea what the first single will be?
I think it might be 'Off And On', which I did with Calvin Harris and Cathy Dennis. But I also really like the track I did with the Freemasons. But, of course, it could be one of the songs we haven't done yet.

Riverwide - April 21, 2008 02:07 PM (GMT)
Sophie working with Freemasons could be wonderful!!

That "Off & On" track is fantastic too!

henZ - April 21, 2008 02:11 PM (GMT)
Ooooh this is actually very exciting!!!

Jimmy Mack - April 21, 2008 02:15 PM (GMT)

Not to knock her or anything, because I really like her, but I'm surprised they're letting her do a fourth album. I thought they would just cut their losses after "Trip the Light Fantastic".

They must have confidence that the new stuff could shift decent numbers.

Riverwide - April 21, 2008 02:16 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I just can't see her ever having decent album sales again. As you say though, perhaps they've heard some of the stuff and think it could be big.

SrkiSrle - April 21, 2008 02:18 PM (GMT)
I love meself some sophie!

engin - April 21, 2008 03:08 PM (GMT)
Poor Róisín.. I'm sure she'll smack her head when it's top 10 lol. She should've released it as a second single and put it on the album as a bonus track (so that it wouldn't fuck up the style of the album).

johnnox - April 21, 2008 03:24 PM (GMT)
why wont she just take the hint and fuck off? Music buyers just dont buy her stuff anymore..

Can't wait to hear what this cute flop bitch has done with Off & On. It's such a great track and I hope Sophie's nailed it.

Manu Alexz - April 21, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
I bought her last album and I will buy the new one. Sophie is fantastic, she's what Kylie never could be.

Matys - April 21, 2008 08:59 PM (GMT)
She's fantastic! I don't know why she doesn't have commercial success, all her records are catchy as hell, especially the latest one.

u really have no clue, now do u...

Jimmy Mack - April 28, 2008 04:39 PM (GMT)

Do people really think "Off and On" will be much of a hit? I really like Roisin's version, but it always seemed like a really solid album track to me - not one to pitch into the top ten.

FuckBuddy - April 28, 2008 10:59 PM (GMT)
off and on is pretty much the infectuous pop dance anthem roisin needed to break the mainstream market. and it pisses all over in my arms, which is really overrated in my opinion. it's the right song for sophie, it fits her vocal range.

Abraham - April 29, 2008 01:03 AM (GMT)
WOW! great news! Im glad she is releasing a new album before the GH.

Karbatal - April 29, 2008 03:15 PM (GMT)
She has to have very high contacts if she's allowed to have a 4th album. Get real, Sophie, your only hit has been Groovejet and you did good with Murder on the Dancefloor, and that was all!

Anyway, i'm glad that pop singers are still alive, in this era so dire to them.
