YIKES! You're stuck with Boris for at least 4 years. Ok, I don't live in London so I am hardly qualified to judge, but Boris and the Tories?! Just goes to show, after last year's French presidential elections and this year's Italian elections, any country can make the "Bush" mistake and vote in certain "I'd have a pint with him" candidates.

Boris is as much Tory as Ken is Labour. They're both a bit off-the-wall, and Ken always put London's interests first, rather than toeing the party line.

I liked Ken, I thought it was a bit of a laugh when he admitted conning the Government by deliberately underpricing the Olympics, as that was the only way to squeeze billions of pounds out of the Government to regenerate East London. Just shows how gormless and gullible the Labour Government is.

So Boris is mayor. The environment is screwed then.

Also in 2002 he said he opposed gay marriage because it meant that next there would be people campaigning to be allowed to marry their pet animals.

Yeah, Boris's statement about people marrying their pets was funny, but if you want to insist he's homophobic, carry on. I don't see how his personal opinions are relevant to running London, he'll be constrained in what he can and cannot do by the UK's antidiscrimination laws. Although I'm sure that won't stop him putting his foot in his mouth again.

As for the racism charge, I'm still not convinced. A person with mixed-race children could be racist, I suppose, I haven't met all of them. Even if he has racist views, provided he treats all Londoners equally, his private opinions are irrelevant. Except when he makes them public, but some people are just hypersensitive crybabies who will shriek racism at the drop of a hat when it suits their agenda.

I'll wait and see what he does as mayor. By the way, I didn't vote for him.

No, I wouldn't find it funny, because it wouldn't appeal to my sense of humour, but the pet comparison did. You can find it offensive, I personally don't. So who's wrong? If someone wants to complain about it, go ahead. It's still a (relatively) free country, people can moan about whatever takes their fancy, it doesn't mean I have to agree with them, or even think they have a point.

The BNP told their supporters to vote for Boris as number two candidate as he was the only real opposition to Ken Livingstone, who they wanted removed. The second candidate choice was a tactical vote used by everyone voting as a method of getting their least favourite candidate out. The press gave everyone an idiot's-guide to voting, explaing how to use the second choice, and some people STILL voted for the Green candidate.

The BNP have gained ground as a consequence of the mainstream policial parties' failure to address the issues faced by certain people in the UK. They would probably hound a gay mixed-race mulatto like me out of town in they could, but they're entitled to their opinions, just like everyone else.
