Title: Alison Goldfrapp on Madonna again...

Riverwide - May 13, 2008 11:54 PM (GMT)
"I think her fearlessness is amazing but I don't have particularly any admiration for her work."

- Alison Goldfrapp, on Madonna, told Reuters during a recent interview

I guess she's entitled to her opinion, but surely even she must recognise the brilliance of many of Madonna's songs and performances.

Another day, another "underground" diva slams Madonna

Riverwide - May 13, 2008 11:58 PM (GMT)
Robyn actually claimed the other day that she was misquoted. She said "I love Madonna and want to reiterate that.".

Backtracking bitch.

FuckBuddy - May 14, 2008 12:01 AM (GMT)
there was an alison interview on q a month or two ago where she seemed to like her a lot. she recalled seeing a pic of madonna jogging while holding supernature on her hand and she admitted she has saved that pic. she also mentioned madge and kylie trying to remain young because they carry this certain image, although i think alison is equally worried about her looks diminishing as time goes by. i mean, she has lied about her age, hasn't she?

goldtooth - May 14, 2008 12:16 AM (GMT)
Man, the young "alternative" UK set really has it in for Madonna.

engin - May 14, 2008 05:44 AM (GMT)
I forgive Alison :sadbitch:

bulletproof_heart - May 14, 2008 10:18 AM (GMT)
'Admiration for her work' says to me enjoyment of it, and fair enough if she's not into pop music like Madonna's

Alison? Young? :chuckle:

I'm sure she'd like to think otherwise, but essentially Goldfrapp make pop music too. The "Supernature" album is littered with Madonna-esque songs. As a writer of pop music, I fail to see why she doesn't enjoy at least some of Madonna's stuff. I'm guessing she won't *allow* herself to like it.

Fembot 1 - May 14, 2008 11:23 AM (GMT)
I think she's just generally quite cunty*

*sorry if I'm being too technical there

Riverwide - May 14, 2008 11:29 AM (GMT)
Hehe yeah. It's very rare that she says anything nice about anyone. Tis just her way.

Ah well, I still think she's cool.

Sure... but just because you make pop music doesn't mean you have to enjoy listening to pop artists

But yeah Fembot ,I have always thought she's a sour faced puss!

Alison Goldfrapp, of all people, should be kissing Madonna's ring.

See, she probably *knows* that herself, and that's what pisses her off a bit.

Why her ?

bulletproof_heart - May 14, 2008 12:02 PM (GMT)
... or any female pop star since the mid 80s? :drama:

Riverwide - May 14, 2008 12:10 PM (GMT)
Are you HIGH?

Madonna has been and remains a *HUGE* influence on the majority of female pop artists out there today. To suggest anything else is utterly ridiculous.

Er, let's see: blonde singer, overtly sexual, trading in electro pop dance music, sometimes with a cinematic sweep to it, works in tandem with a co-writer and co-producer ... we could be here all day.

If Alison Goldfrapp doesn't recognise that Madonna hasn't paved the way for her, she's mad.

Even with all of her ego, Madonna will still acknowlege the artists that made her journey that bit easier (Bowie, Debbie Harry) - I don't see why it's so hard for Goldfrapp to fess up to that. And that's me speaking as a huge fan of her's.

I'm not saying Madonna hasn't been anything *but* an influence on everyone. That's what I meant really. But for everyone to bow down to her and praiser her, and to say they love listening to and appreciate her work is ridiculous

Karbatal - May 14, 2008 12:45 PM (GMT)
Goldfrapp's last album is beautiful in a eerie way, but so boring. Not because they are ballads but because they are very flat. My opinon, of course. If Goldfrapp learned from Madonna how to be entertaining their musical life would be better.

bulletproof_heart - May 14, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
They aren't 'flat'. End.

Riverwide - May 14, 2008 01:50 PM (GMT)
I do really like the latest Goldfrapp album, but I very rarely listen to it all the way through. It's a great mood piece, but it's far from a perfect album.

Adore some stuff on it though.

Manu Alexz - May 14, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
Seventh Tree needed more "balance" tracks. Caravan Girl is really the only upbeat song on it.

Yeah. It's far too "one note". Nowhere near enough variety.

Manu Alexz - May 14, 2008 07:43 PM (GMT)
But as "individual" tracks the whole album is fantastic. You can listen to Clowns and not get bored if you listent to whatever other crap after that.

FuckBuddy - May 14, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
i agree, most songs on 7th tree are beautiful, but i really cannot get to listen to it from start to finish.

Jimmy Mack - May 14, 2008 10:49 PM (GMT)

I ADORE "Seventh Tree" and can listen to it from start to finish and never get bored.

It's not my favourite Frapp album, but I do think it's a gem.

Yeah, overall I prefer "Black Cherry" but I think that "Seventh Tree" is their most consistent set to date.

I'm a Black Cherry man myself, but I agree that Seventh Tree is pretty much A+ from start to finish. There isn't a track I don't like and it works so well as a cohesive whole.
