Title: Let's discuss the INSULT that Spanish Lesson is to
Description: Spanish speaking people.

Manu Alexz - May 19, 2008 01:15 AM (GMT)
Gross.

LeToya Abdul - May 19, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)

I personally don't think it's offensive, and I don't even think it's meant to be.

Manu Alexz - May 19, 2008 02:40 AM (GMT)
It's not meant to be, but the execution is dreadful. She better stick to english.

bulgar - May 19, 2008 04:49 AM (GMT)

and u better stick to spanish dear... :flirt:

zepher-in-the-sky - May 19, 2008 05:24 AM (GMT)
Certainly not just the weakest song, but the worst on the album.

I used this song in a class I teach on postmodernism & Madonna. I have a chapter on Latino and Hispanophone influences in Madonna's work. We do the usual:
Borderline video, La Isla Bonita, Who's That Girl, Marika from S-n-L, Spanish Eyes, Going Bananas, Take a Bow, Veras, Evita, Lo que siente la mujer and I added Spanish Lessons.

Not only did my very serious Master's students burst out laughing when they heard this song, they totally shot the song apart when they analyzed it.

mingemuncher - May 19, 2008 07:17 AM (GMT)
It's a truly appalling song. I don't know why Spanish speaking people think they should find it more offensive than anyone else, it's an offence to anyone with a sense of hearing.

The way she pronounces senorita is hilarious.

bulletproof_heart - May 19, 2008 08:28 AM (GMT)
The vocal performance, Spanish or English, is dreadful

Karbatal - May 19, 2008 10:41 AM (GMT)
The less important thing is how she pronounces Spanish. the important thing is that she has 25 years of musical experience to know when a song is a complete shit. I am embarrassed with that song too.

I hope Give it To Me comes really soon and with a good video to save this Hard Candy era, because i expect it to be really dire. Of course, she will film a horrible vid with loads of effects to show her young and no script or meaning alone, as she has done for years now.

Oh dear, i am very negative today, hahaha. I'm glad there are good songs on the album like She's Not Me, The Beat, Give it To Me and Heartbeat!!!!

Fembot 1 - May 19, 2008 11:08 AM (GMT)
Well I've always taken this song in the lighthearted way it's obviously intended so no, I can't say I find it insulting. That's erring on the overdramatic.

Exactly. It's obviously meant as piece of light filler. How anyone could take it seriously is beyond me. Talk about a rather massive sense of humour failure.

I couldn't give a shit what she's singing anyway. The music and beats are a lot of fun!

Oh for God's sake - it's a fun album track, no more, no less. Get over it.

zepher-in-the-sky - May 19, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
Sorry, but:
1- no it's not a fun album track. That is your opinion. I disagree.

2-, people have been studying Madonna for years. Where have you been?

Just check the titles of books available on Madonna (from the EXCELLENT Madonna as Postmodern Myth: How One Star's Self-Construction Rewrites Sex, Gender, Hollywood and the American Dream, to Desperately Seeking Madonna: In Search of the Meaning of the World's Most Famous Woman, or Madonna's Drowned Worlds: New Approaches to Her Cultural Transformations, without forgetting The Madonna Connection: Representational Politics, Subcultural Identities, and Cultural Theory, Madonna Companion).

People have been studying literature for centuries. Today we are MUCH more affected by new media and technologies and thus by people like Madonna; she's just as valid a study topic (and argueably more given her particularly privelidged status) as any politician or artist.

promise to try - May 19, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
itīs the worst song on the album, but I donīt think itīs an insult.Anyway, Iīm surprised becuase her spanish used to be better than this

deccyf - May 19, 2008 08:42 PM (GMT)
Zephyr, I'm aware that people have studied Madonna for years, i don't mean to knock the merits of any particular academic offerings on the woman, but to take the topic title literally, I would be hugely amazed if too many people are offended by the lyrical content, delivery, whatever, of the song. And if they are, too bad.

ThisShore69 - May 19, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
my least favorite track on the album because I can't stand the cringeworthy attempt at notes that don't suit her vocal capability (also listen to Heartbeat).

Offensive? Well if it does offend, FABULOUS! - Bring back the pre kabollocks M anytime.

i don't mind spanish guitar, it's a bit meh, still enjoyable at times. incredible, on the other hand, is the direst piece of shit she's bothered to release for quite a while.

Abraham - May 19, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
I love it... plus i learned few more words than just si si.

I love the song! It's the most Urban driven of all the tracks which is what she wanted. I love the jerky bass.

Yeah, I think that song is a mess too! When she's not sounding like Paula Abdul, she's screeching to a way overproduced set of tekno-urban wizzes and pops. Not to mention the stupid lines "sex with you is incredible" and "it's time to get your hands up" and that dreadful "BOOM" that's launched by her rent-a-rapper. 3 minutes, OK, but pushing 6? NOT!

TickTock - May 20, 2008 05:08 AM (GMT)
I have to be in a really good mood to enjoy Incredible. I get where she's going with it, but it's not a song that you instantly want to hear again.

Subhuman - May 20, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
I think it's just cute, harmless filler. Her spanish is surprising though, considering the other times she's sang it, particularly Lo Que Siente La Mujer (Live).

I read parts of Madonna's Drowned Worlds. It was OK, but a bit pretentious. The only part I remember was one of the essays criticising Madonna's interpretation of feminism as always involving a battle of the sexes, with one sex winning over the other, rather than the sexes being different but equal. I remembered this when watching the Sorry routine from CT where Madge and the girls overpower the guy dancers at the end, and are standing up victorious whilst the guys are lying on the floor. On the DVD you can see Mihran's cock bulging as he's lying on that bench thingy.

Haven't you noticed? On one of the CT bootlegs you can also see Cloud's cock bulge during Hung Up. Shame those guys aren't with her anymore, the new dancers are mingers.
