Excluding bruce shows, which have never failed to entertain me, i was thinking about the 100s of shows i seen over the years, and the moments that stand out in them. I may not be able to recall the entire show, or even half the setlist, but some things made an impression on me that i won't forget:
Tom Petty in 1980, Augusta Maine. (Opening act Carolyn Mas, why i remember that, i don't know). I remember him leaning over on the mike stand so far we thought he would fall, and he didn't miss a beat....i think American Girl was in my cassette deck for months after that... Cheap Trick 1981, Portland Maine- someone flicked a bottle cap and it hit Robin Zander just below the left eye, during Dream Police. He walked off the stage, lights went up and folks were pissed that the show was stopped, and the bottlecap flicker got a good beating...Rick Neilson came out and said if 1 more thing hits the stage, the show was over for good... Beach Boys 1980 Portland Maine (Franke & The Knockouts opened- guitarist had a hot PINK guitar we were making fun of)- Dennis Wilson was absolutely POUNDING the drums that night, he broke 12 sticks and Mike Love kept turning around and looking at him, and Dennis would throw a broken stick at him... Survivor 1986 Columbia South Carolina- Jason & The Scorchers opened, i had never heard of them but i was a fan after- Jason ran from stage left to stage right and attempted to leap onto a speaker, only to slip and not elevate enough, and his shins caught the top of the speakers, and we heard the CRACK as he went down...he sang the rest of the song on the deck, and limped through the rest of the show... Stevie Nicks/ Joe Walsh Worcester Mass 1983- we had nosebleed seats but i was smart enough to borrow Dads binoculars. My friend Randy used the binoculars almost the entire show to watch, and at one point, i asked if i could take a look, he handed them to me and as i focused them in on Stevie, she leaned over to emphasize a lyric, and her left boob fell out of her top. I was mesmerized, and oblivious to my friends all screaming "gimme the binoculars, gimme, gimme"...by the time i handed them back, the situation had been corrected, ufortunately for them... Joan Jett Jacksonville 1998 -she was playing a small meat market of a bar, and i was friends with the doorman so i had free tix. I was waiting by the back door of the club for the show to start, and the stage door opened and 2 of the Blackhearts came out to smoke...another guy came out, i figured he was a roadie or something..weird looking guy, pretty small for a roadie, short bleached blond hair, wearing a cut off gym shirt... i started shooting the breeze with the blackhearts, asking them how it was working with Westerberg, and how the tour was going, when the roadie kept answering every question i asked before the blackhearts could. I was a little put off, but he had some good answers- i figured maybe he was jetts brother or something...they headed in for the show, i went out front and went in too, and was to see the roadie walk out on stage and rip into Cherry Bomb..and in the stagelights, i could see that the roadie was actually joan...KC & The Sunshine Band Lewsiton Maine 1976 - matching yellow jumpsuits, about 10 guys funking up the state fair, there were more black guys on stage that night than there were living in the entire state of maine...first time i had ever seen one in person, and as a kid i remember thinking "wonder if they know Dr J?" Scandal/ John Waite Boston 1983- i was in lust with Patty Smyth, and the only way i could score tix to the show was to agree to go to Fenway Park for radio network day for all the affiliates in the place of the program director, and take notes for him. It was sheer torture, as they went on & on about exactly how the broadcasts should sound, etc. But my reward was a 2nd row seat to see Patty. Waite opened, I think, and he didn't play enough Babys songs for my liking..Scandal came out and miss smyth was in a very short skirt that fluttered up as she danced around..mmm mmm good... Linda Ronstadt Portland Maine 1982 or 83- she came out in a cheerleader outfit. That was mmmm mmmm good too.... Tesla Portland Maine 1992- sat stage left, as as they were being introduced, i saw them passing around the biggest doobie i had ever seen- it was so big, they used it as a flashlight to find the stage stairs..lead singer would run over every couple of songs and take a great big toke on it... -------------------- BobbyR: She sounds like someone who is not all there like

Seen Cheap Trick on a pig farm in NC, either 1984 or 85. I have to dig up the ticket. I think the promoters were trying to recreate a small woodstock, it failed. Not to many people. Free beer all day/night long. It was called The Noon To Moon Jam. Sadder yet The Greg Khin Band was the highlighted band. -------------------- Semper Fidelis

for sharing the great moments While like you, I have seen many shows with memorable moments, the one I will never forget was John Mellencamp on September 13, 2001....two days after September 11th. Still in shock over what had happened, 8 friends and I were supposed to go but only two of us did....and its something I will never forget...a much needed night of healing/bonding through one of my favorite outlets, live music...and a reminder of what a great country we lived in and sometimes took for granted. I think the first shock came when we got there....the lines were the longest I'd ever seen....it wasn't until we got to the front that I realized it was because they were searching/wanding everything...a realization that the terrorist threat was not over and would become a part of our lives. The following are some articles about the show itself.

I saw KC and the Sunshine band a few years ago (some gfs dragged me to one of those disco shows with lots of acts). He is wayyyy past his prime, after the second song I had to leave and let's say it was a concert to forget -------------------- |

Isn't that like admitting you went to a Wham concert? By the way, my brother who is hard rock, got dragged to a Wham concert by his GF. I never miss a moment to make fun of him. -------------------- Semper Fidelis

Funny, I was so embarrassed, I didn't tell ANYONE I was going....I'm not much of a drinker, but the expresso martinis at dinner did the trick that night My other embarrassing concert was Wierd Al...I wanted to hide...but have to admit it was pretty funny. -------------------- |
