Why does Eggman want to rule the world?
we all know he does, but nobody's ever really asked why.
is it cause he has an Ego? or he wanted to be like his grandfather? dunno just was wondering what you guys though. ^^

Well, he want to be the king. And none shall say what he cant do as all things go with him first like they have to ask him for such a thing.
Probably if he would take controle of the world, he would do so much things making the planet look like he wants with scary theme parks, with a chance of death for the visitors. And much more as manufactorers where he could create all his machines and plan his next move to grow his empire by flocking out in the universe.
It`s just power like H.Ashes just said.

Maybe he realises with his robot maing skills and high IQ, he could do anything he wanted.

Maybe he wanted to be a great scientist like his grandfather, but no-one took him seriously or paid any attention to him. It would explain his ego and why he'd want to rule the world. To make himself known.
But that's just one idea.
