A truly hysterical yet frightening novel about a bombardier named Yossarian in a squadron stationed off Italy during WWII...Heller elevates irony, paradox, and absurdity to an artistic plateau in this nonlinear narrative, a sprawling commentary on societal issues of the 20th century. This book is both gut-bustingly funny and gut-wrenchingly gripping, filled with memorable characters and totally absurd situations. It's one of very few books I've felt utterly compelled to read again front to back twice in a row, and I highly recommend it to anyone who can appreciate relentless circular logic and complete absurdity - and who isn't faint of heart.
