Title: Striker's Second Sprite Topic
Description: I think the first one died...
Striker Nexus - April 7, 2008 07:12 PM (GMT)
After much work done on my spriting skills and alot of time off, I am happy to announce that this is my newest version of Striker!

Tell me what you think. I tried to do better than before, but I don't think it was successful.
Sonic the Hedgehog100 - April 7, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
I like it. ^_^ Especially the hair.
Striker Nexus - April 7, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
Thanks! I borrowed the design from a friend.
Crocozaurus the Eradicator - April 7, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
I can tell. The quill style looks extremely similar to my character.
Through deep analysis, however, I have noticed a few small differences, and is therefore not the exact same quillstyle.
But you still need to learn to shade. =3
Nah, kidding. But I can barely tell that there's any in the black clothes. You have to zoom in to see it.
What happened to that sheet Takashi was making you, anyway?
Sky - April 7, 2008 09:06 PM (GMT)
Sorry guys, the shading just doesn't look right at all =/.
Jirachi - April 7, 2008 09:33 PM (GMT)
Okay, first off... I think you definetely need more black outlining under his spines... a LOT more. Just remember that black outlining is needed when the area barely hits light, if even at all.
Second, when working with tones of black... try not to make them darker than the black outline color. Like what Croc said, I really can't tell what's what in the giant, black blob. XD
Also, I'd highly suggest that for areas that are black- yes, this applies to anything that's meant to be black- to use a main tone, a second darkest tone, and for the third darkest tone, the actual black outline used in the rest of the sprite. Of course, this completely depends on the shade of black. If it's a more gray tone, you obviously don't need the third darkest tone to be the default black color.
One more thing I'd like to point out: What is that thing under his bottom bang, and what's the one blue thing under his bottom spine...? O_o;
Striker Nexus - April 11, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)
Croc: It's still there, I just wanted to see how much better I've gotten... I haven't.
Jirachi: That's the other side of his head underneath the bottom bang and that is his bottom quill.
I have taken the advice and have used it. Here's how it looks so far. Tell me if I did better.

A few notes to everyone...
1. For the jacket, I put in three different shades of gray, due to the fact that black was a little too dark.
2. This version of Striker is based on my RP character. If you Rp with me, then this should look similar to you.
3. I gave him fingerless gloves. It took me forever to get it to look halfway decent.
4. I used a pair of shades and put them on him for a reason. I need to know which one looks better if anyone of them do. The one with the shades or the one without.
Jirachi - April 11, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
I really think that looks a LOT better, well done.
Other side of his head? Does he have a growth there or something...?
O.o;
And no, don't say that you haven't improved. I'm sure you have. ^^
I've never really seen any of your previous works, so I can't say much, to be honest. XP
But don't let them bring you down or anything... to be extremely honest and NO offense to ANYONE at all, I personally think Croc and Sky could've been a tad more detailed with their comments instead of merely sayig that the shading doesn't look right and such....
*gets brick'd* Okay, so maybe that came out as sounding rather... finicky. I DIDN'T MEAN IT THAT WAY, GUYS. I'm just being honest. XP
Pink Godzilla - April 11, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
lol tala sounds funny. n'way, you still tuck your pants into your socks! looks weird. fix em' my friend.
Ah, and try not to use such colors that look exactly the same. The shirt is a good example.
Crocozaurus the Eradicator - April 11, 2008 11:06 PM (GMT)
Jirachi: Well ex-CUSE me for not being a nitpicky, detailed, know-it-all Einstein like you! D=< *shot*
Nah, kidding.
But the shading really didn't look right. =P
And it still doesn't. Are you using lighter colors for the outline? O_o
Jirachi - April 12, 2008 06:35 AM (GMT)
Pink: Hmm... I guess I just now noticed that, lolz. XD
But, I'm sure he intended it to be that way, maybe...?
Croc: lmao! XD
Striker Nexus - April 13, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
Pink: Yeah... I gotta work on that.
Croc: No. I'm leaving the outline like it is. Maybe that's where I need to work.
Sky - April 13, 2008 08:03 PM (GMT)
At least try to change his shoe colors, they still resemble Sonic's =/

This should be more of a problem.
Same with Croc's shoes.
Jirachi - April 15, 2008 09:00 PM (GMT)
Like I said... for the black tones, make sure the third darkest tone of black is lighter than the outline color, but STILL looks black and can STILL be distinguished from the actual outline color.
Pink: That's kinda what I was trying to hint in earlier: more originality.
Oh, wait... I guess I didn't post that up....
Then again, maybe it's not so great to encourage more originality in a character in a sprite topic? I remember when I was at SSMB, how they were discussing that it could mess up the quality or something.
Oh well. I guess, in this case, originality is a must.
Striker Nexus - April 21, 2008 06:31 PM (GMT)
Striker is supposed to have the same fur color as Sonic. It plays an important role in his life story. That being said, I changed his shoe color and his outline.
Jirachi - April 21, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
Umm... I thought I said that it was more reccommended to put the black where the light hits the least....
Oh well... :\ ._.|||
Credence - April 22, 2008 09:00 PM (GMT)
It's a good sprite, but the sunglasses look a little off, kinda like they're tilted more to one side of his head than the other or the far side is just sticking out in the air. The far lens shouldn't be quite so obvious if they're supposed to just be sitting on his forehead. Maybe show the closer lens and a bit of black behind his hair/other ear to show it wrapping over his head and onto the other side?
Just a suggestion! Don't brick me. D;
Striker Nexus - April 23, 2008 04:48 PM (GMT)
Jirachi: I didn't try to do that. I tried to make an outline, and then shade the shoes and jacket. I got a little over carried away, and fudged it up.
Credence: Thanks. I'm more focused on the sprite w/o the shades.
Gale - April 24, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
If you can't change the fur colour, mebbeh change the eye colour? :3
Striker Nexus - October 22, 2008 10:34 PM (GMT)
This is the breath of life here!!!

Enjoy!
Crocozaurus - October 23, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
Huh. Nice. O_o
Pants need work, though. I can hardly see any shading in them at all.
~*Peppermint Girl*~ - October 23, 2008 07:37 AM (GMT)
Be sure to be careful about how intensely you shade things, especially if they are black pants for example. Although that specific quill stilye is actually very unique... I've never seen any quite like that before, EVER! very nice, very nice indeed....
Striker Nexus - October 24, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
Thanks. Here's an update.

I'm working on the pants next. I had to change the gloves to an alternate color. I'll work on the pants next.
Striker Nexus - October 27, 2008 01:17 AM (GMT)
Update...again...
Crocozaurus - October 27, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
Wow...now the shading's just all over the place on the gloves. O_o
Le-let me help you. Seriously.
.....Please?
Zeero - October 27, 2008 02:14 AM (GMT)
He looks sweet. I'm not an expert spriter so I can't criticize...D:
Striker Nexus - October 27, 2008 10:08 PM (GMT)
Croc: Sure, go ahead. I don't care.
Zeero: Thanks!
Striker Nexus - November 1, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)

This is the recent update. I fixed the color of the gloves...I think.
Crocozaurus - November 1, 2008 02:57 AM (GMT)
Wrong.
I'll work on it soon, I promise.
Striker Nexus - November 1, 2008 02:58 AM (GMT)
Well, they look a lot better than what they did look like.
EDIT: And now they look even better!
Crocozaurus - November 2, 2008 12:08 AM (GMT)
Er...nope. Sorry. =(
Try this. I finally got around to fixing it for you. =D
Striker Nexus - November 2, 2008 01:53 PM (GMT)
...thanks...oh, and I saw your comic, too.
Zeero - November 4, 2008 03:55 AM (GMT)
That's great, but you need to get working on a sheet, Striker. Plox? :D
Striker Nexus - November 4, 2008 12:58 PM (GMT)
I'll send you my old one til I fix up the newer one.
Zeero - November 5, 2008 01:15 AM (GMT)
Okay. So then send it! =D (I'm super impatient >:D =P)
Striker Nexus - November 5, 2008 03:03 AM (GMT)
I've already sent it.

A small update, but it's still an update. Notice that I only worked on the shoes, fur color, and gloves(which that was only for the first pose so...)
Striker Nexus - November 7, 2008 02:42 AM (GMT)
Well, I have finished one pose for Striker's running sprite. I've even been kind and divided it into two sections, complete and incomplete. Slowly, but surely, I'm getting better at Spriting.

C+C please.
Crocozaurus - November 7, 2008 03:14 AM (GMT)
The shirt on the shading isn't too bad for once. The pants, on the other hand, would look better if you actually did shade them. You only did a little on his front leg near his foot. Look at the sprite I fixed, that might help you a little. Also, the pants themselves look too thin in some places. Not too bad overall, though.
Striker Nexus - November 8, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
Thanks for helping me out with that. Here's an update. Croc, I took your advice. I think it came out pretty good.
