Title: Pokemon Sprite Revamp Contest

Jirachi - May 26, 2008 05:46 PM (GMT)
Yeah, what the title says; I've decided to make a revamp contest.

Here's the deal: Each round, I post up a Gold, Silver, Crystal, Blue, Red, Yellow, or sometimes a sprite from Green that needs to be revamped. Whichever style you'd like to revamp it to is whatever you wish; maybe Gold to D/P, Green to R/S, or maybe even Blue to Silver. This contest only shows how much skill you show off in revamping.

Now, for that last option, I bet everyone's going all "WTF."
Most may think that revamping is merely recoloring an old (Pokemon, in this instance) sprite to the D/P or R/S/E pallete.

Well, for one, let's get this straight: there's MUCH more to revamping than just recoloring; in fact, that's only a third or fourth of it.
Revamping is the process of editing, reshading, AND recoloring an old [Pokemon] sprite to make it seem to look as if it's a newer version of the sprite that was revamped.

Anyways, back to the point: now, to relieve you of some confusion from when I gave an example of revamping a Blue sprite to Silver (or whatever it was).
Revamping, like I've said, is the process of editing, reshading, and recoloring to make it look newer.
Notice how I italicized "er." Some people think that it's revamping a sprite to make it look like one of teh newest versions, such as revamping that same one from Blue to Ruby or Pearl style.

Revamping one from Blue to Silver is STILL a revamp, due to teh fact that it's being edited to look newer than the original being revamped.

So, now that that's cleared up... the rules:
1.) Just the usual: no art theft, flaming, etc.
2.) I'm not restricting a mere recolor of the sprite that I posted up or anything... not like there absolutely HAS to be editing, just do as good as you can and remember my definition of revamping above.
3.) You MUST revamp whichever sprite I have posted up in my first post for that round. Anything besides a revamp of my requirement will be rejected, but you may feel free to try again and enter a revamp of what I have up.
4.) any other thing that I may have forgotten....

I will be the judge of this contest... I appreciate any help offers, but I'd rather do this myself. ^^;

There is no deadline to WHEN the entry has to be done; once 5 entries are turned in, that's when the judging starts. The winner have an honorable mention in the first post with his/her revamp. Eventually after the winner is decided, I'll post up a new sprite in my first post that people from the next round must revamp.

And also, if I didn't mention, anyone, despite how many times they win (although I could probably assure you that others would'nt want to come in in that case... XD;), can enter as many rounds as they wish.

There's only one prize, which is for whoever wins first. Now don't get me wrong, I'm still ranking second and third (most likely), but there's only a prize for first....

[h]The prizes:
1st place: Gets to request THREE revamps from me from whichever base, and from whichever version/game they choose.
2nd place: Gets a total of TWO revamps from me from whichever base, and from whichever version/game they choose.
3rd place: Wins a total of ONE revamp of from me from whichever base, and from whichever version/game they choose.

However... what it's revamped TO is no choice for now. I feel comfier with the D/P style. =S[/h]

Oh, and another VERY important rule: please make sure to tell me WHAT style you're revamping it to. The majority of people will most likely revamp to D/P style, but I really have to know.

At the moment... I'd say that you have to base it on a certain style. No custom styles for now. Sorry. ^^;

However, that doesn't mean you have to perfectly reshade it to be that; heck, you could just recolor it with a new pallete... even though I don't reccommend you only recoloring it, as it will get you a lower rating.

But, anyways, I think that's it; have fun!

There were trophies for PP... but, I've decided to leave them out here because they take much too long. The judging process will also NOT show visible criticism anymore... I learned that when I was judging there.

Anyways, here's the winners:
3rd place goes to Scitt for executing an impressive reshading style, despite not following the contest rules (it's okay for just this time).
2nd place goes to Garage for doing well with executing the attempted reshading style.
and finally...
1st place goes to Aurorae for executing the attempted style the best.

So, if you'd like... PM me with your requests!

Here, my first try at the style.

Jirachi - May 29, 2008 01:08 PM (GMT)
Awesome, thanks for joining.
I'll rate it as soon as I have all the other entries in.

If I didn't mention before, the placements on entries depend on my rating. I rate the revamps at the end of each round before deciding the winner.

edit: this would be a perfect time now to get mroe entries in. Anyone?

P.Cyber - June 7, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
I'll join (i'm gonna post my sprite once I'm done) !XD

EDIT:
Okay, I'm done! I... don't know what style this is though.... It looks very Plastic and 3D like. I hope this is what you are asking for...

Jirachi - June 7, 2008 12:43 PM (GMT)
P CYber: Thanks. Just base it off of a style nex time...
We'll count thta as LG/FR or something.

P.Cyber - June 7, 2008 01:07 PM (GMT)
**Cocks head** I don't know what that means but, I won't SPAM.

Jirachi - June 7, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
I said... try to use an actual official style to revamp it to next time. I'll count it as Leaf Green/ Fire Red style....

P.Cyber - June 7, 2008 03:24 PM (GMT)
sorry, just delet mine then... T^T I thought I would just do something different and use my on style... nevermind

**leaves Contest**

Jirachi - June 7, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
Well, I appreciate that, but if you clearly read, this is what the first post said:

-.-'

Besides, I said I could say it being based off of the FR/LF style. As I recall, the revamp looks pretty much similar to that style (I guess *shrugs shoulders*).

But that's all I'm asking for (if there's even a) next time you enter something in this contest.

edit: aw, just checked, it doesn't really look that similar to that style.
But, thats okay. This will be the only time I rate something that someone revamped that isn't into an official style. In other words, I guess I'll let ya off the hook for this one.

P.Cyber - June 7, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
okay, I thought I could just edit them. I'll still try (that Vulpix took me and hour or two)

There's my entry. ^^;

Jirachi - June 8, 2008 12:04 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Aurorae.

Well, alright... if you'd like to edit it, that's no prob with me, but I suggest leaving it how it is. I really like that shading style.

Just use an official one next time. ;P

Just, if you ARE gonna edit it, make sure that you're certain, so if someone has an entry before the edit date, I can postpone the judging.

Alright, just ONE more entry, guys, and the judging begins! ^__^

Aurorae: Aaand... I guessing it's been revamped to D/P?
Just remember to tell me what it's been revamped to next time, guys, seriously. THis looks like something that a lot of people could overlook.... ._.|||

Aurorae - June 8, 2008 12:12 AM (GMT)
To be honest, once it gets to Ruby and Saphire, they look all the same to me. o-o

Jirachi - June 8, 2008 12:18 AM (GMT)
Well, it appears that it has the D/P pallete, so I could count it as that. ^^;

Edit: actually, R/S/E uses much more dithering than D/P. FR/LG uses much dithering also, but I don't think it uses AS much as R/S/E.

Just remember that D/P= barely the use of dithering. But, yeah. XD

P.Cyber - June 8, 2008 04:05 AM (GMT)
Thank you Speed X, I won't chang the style on this one though... I'll get it right... next time... x3

Jirachi - June 8, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
Alright, awesome then.

Oh, and sorry if I seemed a little quirky or edgy this morning. I guess something had ticked me off... Iunno, I was just crabby. XP

But, anyways, back on topic...

Thanks to everyone participating~

:TailsHeadSpin: What the... WHY ARE YOU DOING POKEMON IN A TAILS FOURM??!?!?!?!??!!?!???!?!? ;)

Jirachi - June 28, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
Yeah and why are you spamming?

Seriously, who cares if the contest is irrelevant to Tails. It's not ALL about Tails, y'know, or they wouldn't allow people to discuss Pokemon and other junk in the video games discussion forum and crap like that.

But don't spam. Seriously. This is your verbal warning... do it again and it becomes physical.

Yeah.. I know its sucky... kinda light colored. Anyway thats my best please be harsh.

Jirachi - July 9, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
Great. Just a couple more people and the judging will start. x3

However, if no one enters by next or a couple weeks after today... we'll start judging with only five contestants, and it'll stay as five being the limit.

edit: Y'know, I'll just start the judging now... I think this is fine the way it is.

Aurorae - July 11, 2008 05:07 PM (GMT)
Can you tell me what type of pokemon that is? Because I need too see the newer color set...
