Alright, I'm gonna talk about the change between Tails voice actor from SA1 and SA2 to other all of his voices after that. Feel free to voice your own opinions here as well.

As many people agree, I think that his VA from SA1 and SA2 were the best. It sounded like he was a truly witty fox, with his timid moments but he could rise up and be a leader when he wanted to as well. The VA did a great job of broadcasting this across his various roles, such as when he took charge of Sonic's job when he believed Sonic to be dead in space.

As far as the others go, I'd say he sounds like a fox who really needs to hit puberty sooner or later. The VA can only really broadcast one emotion, which really isn't much of an emotion at all. It's way too high and it's annoying to listen through. Not dissing Tails, I'd be rampaged and banned if I was, but he lost the rank of my favorite character when the VA changed.

So anyways, feel free to state your oh-so wanted opinions about it here.

In my opinion, I think Tails being voiced by a girl is a high offense, and kinda stupid, you voice a male with a male, and a female with a female, not the other way around.

Men's voices drop about one octave once they mature... finding one who can voice a young boy can often be difficult. Sometimes women do a really good job anyway, that's just not the case here. ^^;

You know how you could voice an 8 year old? BY HIRING AN 8 YEAR OLD.

I like his SA1/SA2 voice best, since it seemed most Tails-ish IMO. I thought his Sonic X voice was good too*Flamebate*

Personally I love Tails for his character and not his voice over though. It could be better though. I'm not in the "bash Sonic X voices" club here ^^;

I know this example is not Sonic related, but Bart Simpson is voiced by a woman and it's done well.

Yeah, it's that easy. Just finding some random 8 year old, getting permission from their parents, sorting out the money-hungry parents and also getting the Forgets "dam n" is word filtered... darn 8 year old to read the lines without stammering or anything like that. It's much easier to use a woman, Knnywood, otherwise they would use an 8 year old.

I like Ryo Hirohashi the most. =P

hmm hmm SA 1/ 2 voices were the best... Heroes sounded WAAAAAY to HIIIIGH.
Yet still... If we would measure Tails' age until now he would be like 16 years old and have a voice of a to become adolescent teenager. Still the sonic characters never age and that is why new voice actors are needed from time to time because we do age and with it our voice gets worse.

There is a way to keep your voice like it is but it will get rid of your life desires. Castration -_-"... not in my ENTIRE life. If there was someone needed to voice Tails as a teenager then I would gladly volunteer but because they don't age I can't. I just can't reach that high voice any more, a few months ago I could but now I can't.

Emm and it depends on which language you are talking about in the Sonic X series. Yes, Tails voice was ok to me but that isn't the reason why I dislike it. It's because they didn't put enough emotion in it like the Japanese did. That one rocked.

I've liked all of Tails voices so far, to tell the truth. It's hard for me to pick a favorite.

I loved his SA/SA2 voice. Since it was actually a kid voicing him, it sounded really authentic. The only problem I had with it is that it sounded just a tad too old for him, and at some points when he talked nonstop it sounded like a bad anime dub. xP Overall though, I think this voice was great, it matched his personality well and made him seem confident rather than whiny.

Having an 8 year old voicing him can cause a few problems though. Sooner or later the kid is going to hit puberty and sound too old for Tails, meaning every few games Tails voice actor would have to change, and that would be a hassle. Not to mention that it's really hard to find a guy that has already gone through puberty who can make that young-sounding of a voice, hence why girls are so often hired to do the voices for young boys. It's much easier and most of the time comes out with good results.

As for his current voice...
I don't like many of the 4Kids voices, though one of the few I do like is Amy Palant as Tails. The "female voicing a male" thing doesn't bother me whatsoever, seeing as there are a ton of shows that do that. I mean, look at the first season of Pokemon, Ash sounded good and his voice actor was female, correct?
Also, to tell the truth, I don't think Tails' voice sounds as feminine as people make it out to be. I think it sounds quite boyish. It may be a bit high-pitched, but of course it's gonna be; he's a young boy, most young boys have higher voices.
The only problem I have with Amy is how she uses her voice. I think she could do a bit better with how she portrays emotion and such, but other than that I don't mind Tails' current voice at all.
Oh, I do have one other little problem with her, now that I think about it. I think her voice is a little too crackly for Tails, I think a smoother voice like the one he had in SA/SA2 matches him better. I don't think his current voice is bad, though.

Yeah, well, I don't have a problem with females voicing males. In fact, it sounds better some of the time. I don't HATE the 4Kids voices (as far as Sonic goes, but in One Piece they screwed it up bad), in fact, I think Jason Griffith is really rather underrated, but I think that Tails' voice was much better in SA1/SA2. The VA could portray many more emotions than the one that does now.

Not to go off topic here, but I think that, if Ryan Drummond had said all the lines the exact same way that Griffith did, the fanboys wouldn't all complain. It's barely even a matter of voice skill nowadays, its just who is voicing him.

I still do like Drummond better, though. He certainly is the better VA.

I'd rather have a good voice for Tails that changes every couple of games than a bad voice that doesn't change.

actually back when acting first started only men were actors so the girls were played by men and girls voices kids is pretty common Bart Simpson is voiced by a girl so in acting gender isn't a big factor

Yes, but Bart Simpson's VA actually sounds like a boy. It's not hard to tell that Tails' VA is a woman.

On fairly odd parents, Timmy is played by a girl
On Rugrats, Tommy is played by a girl.

I think Tails' japanese voice for Sonic X was played by a female. I'm not so sure. I don't know who actually did it, but it sounded like a girl.

I do prefer SA2 the most.

Tails' voice from SA1 and SA2 are both really good, as well as his Sonic X voice IMO. All his other voices just don't sound so good, though, especially his voice in Sonic Heroes. (Whoever did his voice in that game must have had larengitis or something, seriously!)

Tails' Sonic X voice fits the best in my opinion. :)
He sounds more genuine, he fact he's played by a girl doesn't bother me, most adult guys have deeper voices and I can't picture Tails with a deep voice.

Also SAB2 was 'ok' but he seemed inexperienced, when he says "I have to save Amy, cause she is in danger." Didn't sound totally right.
The Sonic Heroes voice was the worst. xD

I HATE Tails' voice right now. It's a girl, and everyone can tell. They made him sound like a friggin' 7 year old girl! T_T

His best voice was in SA2B...you could tell he was a GUY in that game...why give Tails a girl's voice, SEGA?! WHHHYYYY?!?!!! TTT___TTT

Sega of Japan has the same voice actors (except Tails´) since Sonic Adventure.
However, Sega of America doesn´t seem to care for the quality of their games, so they pick random voice actors who have no experience at all. =P

I dont really mind Tails is by a Woman. Heck loads of my fav characters are played by A Woman. Take Naruto and Envy of Fullmetal Alchemist for example. Im not sure which voice of his is my fav though.

I think they should have keep The Voice actor in Sonic Heroes >_TT (That tails voice was my favorite)

I kinda like his voice in the Sonic Movie.
