Title: question about cosmo
Description: lung functions

since Cosmo is half plant would she breath CO2 or since she's half human would she breath Oxygen or would she breath a combination of both

I just randomly thought about that the other day

Hmmm, well since Sonic characters can randomly breathe in space, I'd assume she doesn't need to breathe, course I've seen Sonic inhaling.

Actually, I'm not sure about that, how can they all live? O.o

I know it's weird, but they must need to breath since you can drown in the games

I dunno if she'd even know how o.o She doesn't have a nose... but if they drew one on her it would look very messed up

So I assume she absorbs light or something to breathe... I dunno lol

Well... She is a plant, I guess she uses photosynthesis like all the other plants? She is basically an advanced species of plant after all. O_o

Photosynthesis is the only actual answer I can think of.....

Nika - December 6, 2008 03:00 AM (GMT)
Photosynthesis is a good call but what about the human half she must have because she has a brain that they were able to understand enough to scan/find the bug in.
So she must have a similar neurological system at least.

Time to bring knowledge into this thread!

Plants do not breathe CO2. Thatīs a huge misunderstanding of photosyntesis.
Plants consume CO2, and not breathe it. They breathe oxygen, just like every living organism does (But they need light and warmth to consume it, as theyīre doing it during photosyntesis).
Yes, plants exhale oxygen during photosyntesis, but thatīs because they inhaled too much of it. And they need space for the CO2 as well.
CO2 is a source of energy for plants, something like food for animals. But at night, plants exhale CO2, because there is not enough light and warmth for them to do photosyntesis.

Sorry if I sounded like a complete idiot. :T14:

Photosynthesis:

6CO2 + 6H2O + 6O2 --> C6H12O6 (glucose)

Respiration:

C6H12O6 + 6O2 --> 6CO2 + 6H2O + 6O2

Everything respires ("breathes"). Plants don't eat other organisms, so they need to make their own food.

They use CO2 to make glucose (their food), and release oxygen as a product. This process is called photosynthesis.

But plants also need to take up oxygen to use the glucose they made. This process is called respiration.

Bascially, I'm just rephrasing what Iceguy said.

--------

As for Cosmo, I have no idea. Like Trixie said, they can breathe in space!

photosyntesis, the best and proberly most obvious answer.
