(I dunno if this has already been discussed but.. you know. This is something a friend told me.)


In his 1st debut of Sonic 2 Tails was mistaken from people that he was female. The main song for Sonic 2 was called Sweet Dreams and at the time it was considered to be a SonTails song. The band Dreams Come True thought the reason why Tails followed Sonic cos they thought he or she loves him.


When I 1st heard about this I was like WOAH :T5:

I knew people used to think (and probably still protest that) he was a girl. I always thought of him as a guy. VGs back then didn't really go into much detail about genders, age and such. Also, the games themselves didn't have much dialogue back then, so it might be harder to understand what the characters are like.

Maybe Tails does love Sonic and that's why he follows him =P Maybe he's gay.

Nah I didnt really think that. I thought he followed Sonic cos Sonic is his hero. I never thought of him being a girl and loving him. I was just shocked when I heard about it.

There are people on FUS (Fans United for Sat-AM) Who still think Tails is a girl. They have...issues. >_> XD

The song has nothing to do with the pairing, it´s just the fans´ mistake. =P

Tails wasn´t mistaken by many people as female, but mostly Spanish people did. I dunno what´s "tail(s)" in Spanish, but it´s a feminine word and that´s why they consider(ed) Tails a girl.

I see, but really to me Tails didnt really look feminine. Thats why I thought of him as a boy from the start.

A lot of arguments. I myself am still not sure whether or not Tails is gay. But anyways, back to the topic, I can see why they thought of him as a girl. I didn't, of course, but I can see why. Anybody who still thinks he's a girl is insane. Though actually, if somebody started by playing Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog or 06 I can see why they might think he's a girl (voice and all).

Yeah I suppose so. I really didnt unserstand the whole thing with him. I do understand some mistaken him for a girl aswell. As he does sound a lil girly.

Arguments over Tails' original gender are as ancient as the Wondernet™ itself, at least as far back as Sonic 2 is concerned. Each one is just as irrelevant as the last.

This ISN'T true, this is a false rumor that was spun out of control by the fandom. Sonic Team has said they never planned on having him as a female character. Heck, his name is a good suggestion of that. Have you ever heard of a female named Miles? (Which they were orginally going to just call him Miles Prower, thus why if you turn on Debug mode on Sonic 2 it just calls him Miles, but Sonic Team decided on Miles "Tails" Prower).

I just want to point out, at least in the comics, Tails is really really really not gay. Tails went HEAD OVER HEELS over Fiona Fox, if some fans remember, and it almost got Tails robotisized. He still has feelings for her even today. He's a boy that wants the ladies. XDDDD

Hahah, I did the exact same thing. I would play Sonic 2 with my mom, and we both thought Tails was a girl until later xD he does seem feminine though, and I think a lot of people make the mistake of thinking he's a girl. When I did find out Tails was a boy, I didn't really mind it. I was just like "Oh, he's a boy? wow o.o" and moved on. I don't really see Sonic and Tails together anyway, despite the Sweet Dreams rumor (which I don't buy). It's more of a brotherly-love relationship rather than a romantic one.

as for the "side-topic" here, I can actually see Tails as bisexual =P

I always knew Tails was a guy ((I almost typed "girl"!)). I will admit that I have been crazy in the past meaning supporting the um....let's just put Strange Pairings.

But I will also admit that I heard of the Chaotix when I first played Sonic Heroes and I thought Charmy was a girl for a while because of his voice.

Tails has never looked feminin to me. He's inocent, a little kid, and he acts like a little kid. He's never been into the girly stuff, he's always enjoyed the masculan.

I felt really akward and odd when I heard about it. To me Tails sees Sonic as his hero or big brother. Besides Tails has has crushes on a few girls right? :T7:

Princess Sally never did, but then again she was an Archie Character. She did appear in Sonic Spinball though. (The bonus levels where you need to rescue the people on the mini pinball machine. Rover makes an appearance as well. I think Antoine too.)

Well If some thought Tails was a girl then theres nothing we can do really. But ofcouse everyone should know that Tails is a guy and not a gal.

Yeah, I have once or twice had this thrown at me in a game's chat (Using "Tails" as my user name). I don't get it too often though thankfully, it's rather annoying trying to argue with them (which I only bother doing because otherwise they end up thinking that I am a girl.)

This is an interesting story. he was never meant to be female, withthe exception of mexico, in mexico his name meant "little fox" or something like that. but with the exception of mexico, he was always supposed to be a guy, and never had ANY evidence at all of being gay, so those who sincerely believe he is gay, i can just laugh. lol. :T0:
