Title: sonic at its end....

the black phantom - December 30, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
take a look back.....
its been 10 years sense a good sonic game was made.. my brother shown me something a few days ago about games at thier end and sonic was at the top
i am a fan of the older sonic games....but not even sonic can outrun time

Comrade Iceguy - December 30, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
Define "good Sonic game", please.
Because so far, I have enjoyed almost every Sonic game. =P

Sonic Heroes was epic win, I enjoyed Sonic Riders a lot, Iīd like to try out Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic and the Secret Rings, and I demand Sonic Unleashed. =P

the black phantom - December 30, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
well.....your a die hard sonic fan....
after sonic adventure 2....(excluding the sonic advances)the bosses were....very easy......plus....they keep adding characters and the storyline well.....just is...suckish......
aand the reveiws.....not that good...

Striker Nexus - December 30, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
Sonic Unleashed and SatSR were epic win. They resurrected Sonic's life span for now. You are right about one thing. No matter how fast Sonic really is, he can't outrun time.

the black phantom - December 30, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
meh....they changed sonic too much in sonic unleashed....if sega stops adding more characters and works on the story and bosses then sonic has a chance....
also...in brawl....sonic is just a character build to fail....

Random Smash - December 31, 2008 03:31 AM (GMT)
I disagree. I'm a fan of all Sonic games. I'm a bit annoyed about Sega adding characters, but that doesn't mean they are `suckish'. Sonic was the easiest character for me to beat characters with. The bosses to me are the same difficulty as ever.

Sako the Unknown - December 31, 2008 03:57 AM (GMT)
I highly disagree. So far you're not stating any proof to back this up, and the overall thought of the Sonic series dying is just a rumor from many people who thought out of their opinions that the games "sucked"

A few of the games may have been a little eiffy, but a lot of them were very enjoyable let alone interesting. They had their ups and downs and all games have that. If the Sonic franchise is to fall I don't think it'll stay down for long. After a year or two it's sure to come back with a bang. Despite what ANY rumor would state.

Lisa Fox - December 31, 2008 04:35 AM (GMT)
Well, it is kinda true that some past Sonic games haven't been so great. Sonic '06, Shadow the Hedgehog, (In my opinion) Secret Rings. But they're still pulling up. With games like Chronicles and Unleashed, which are both great, I still say they have a chance for now.

And it is quite annoying that they keep adding characters. What SEGA needs to learn is to just keep the original! Everyone loves just a fast plain ol' Sonic The Hedgehog. ;3 No need for anymore forms, either. XD;

Comrade Iceguy - December 31, 2008 01:34 PM (GMT)
What Sonic Team needs to do is please everyone - which is impossible, comrades. Seriously, there is no way they can make a game which everyone will like, because at least one person has to find something completely tirivial and moan about it. XP

the black phantom - December 31, 2008 01:38 PM (GMT)
i figured it would be hard to talk this with die-hards.....for me the bosses were just too easy past SA2....as for brawl..it just goes to show...being fast can be bad....

Comrade Iceguy - December 31, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
Brawl isnīt a Sonic game. :T13:

Anyhoo, I agree with you, comrade - the bosses are kinda too easy. But hey, they werenīt hard since the beginning. =P
And as far as I know, the story isnīt affecting the gameplay.
(Yes, I know Iīm a hypocrite because I always moan at Grffith. Shoot me <_<)

the black phantom - December 31, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
i know i know....by the gods....i cant state an opinion....

Comrade Iceguy - December 31, 2008 01:47 PM (GMT)
Sorry, I was editing my post. ^^;

the black phantom - December 31, 2008 01:49 PM (GMT)
yes yes with that i some what agree...the games would be better if the bosses got harder as you go up(not immpossibly difficult but you know )

Comrade Iceguy - December 31, 2008 01:51 PM (GMT)
I get your point, and I think the word youīre looking for is "challenging". :T11:
Easy bosses were one thing that dissapointed me in Sonic Heroes. I expected a lot more from Metal Sonic, but then again, the whole game was kinda easy. :T12:

the black phantom - December 31, 2008 01:53 PM (GMT)
yes yes thats the word....i didnt even finish sonic heros....i got bored with it half way

Aurorae - December 31, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
I agree that it's dieing. But Sonic fans won't let him rest in peace, they'll just keep buying there games till there 70.

After Sonic Heroe's, the games became uninteresting, easy, or just to complicated and glitchy.

Sonic Unleashed wasn't that good, Sega just can't make Sonic Adventure 3, they have to make things like "Sonic the Vampire Slayer", and now there just copying things from Mario and Sonic(Aka, wolf, princess saving), and it's not the Sonic I knew.

06 and Unleashed were the worst games I ever played, but I liked 06 better, because it had more variety and no werehog levels.

Sonic fans have no say in Sonicīs developement. Itīs only Sonic Team and Sega. And they didnīt stop making Sonic stuff because they have a good reason not to. :T11:

Agreed with easy, and glitchy with Suckic 06.

Sonic is copying from Sonic, lawl

Youīve got the Wii version, donīt you? =P

Missy - December 31, 2008 03:24 PM (GMT)
I really haven't played any games except Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, Chronicles, and Unleashed but the only game I really enjoyed is Unleashed. I'm still on like the 2nd Continent and I'm stuck somewhere, but overall the game is great. Except for the Werehog levels. They are WAY too long. And difficult to find the things you need sometimes.

I think Sonic is coming back, but needs some more time to fully recover from all the bad games. Whenever there's bad, there comes the good :3

Roronao - December 31, 2008 03:47 PM (GMT)
Hmm...Sonic dying. It's already happened once, but that most certainly wasn't the franchise, that was Mephiles's works. So will it happen again? That remains to be seen, but it's actually possible.

QUOTE

Actually, one could say they do have some say in the development. If a Sonic fan buys the game, Sega gets money. Sega gets money, they make more games. Aurorae's point is that. Sega care about money, not their fanbase nor the reviews.

QUOTE

I agree utterly and completely that the princess saving felt like Mario a lot, however, it's a very publicly used idea and I'm pretty sure they didn't have any intention of stealing from Nintendo. Same with the wolf.

My views? My views are simple. Sonic would've died a long time ago, if it didn't have the fanbase. Sonic has such a radical fanbase that NOBODY who's a big fan of Sonic and the old days, no matter how much they bash the 3D games, wouldn't buy it. Really. Sega's not going to stop making Sonic, because they make money off it. That's what Sega, if not all companies, care about. As far as games, I think it's possible to dig themselves out of this hole now. If they don't soon, then they'll have dug their own grave and buried themselves.

Mazcaeks™ - December 31, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
For the most part, I agree that things aren't getting much better. They do show small glimmers of hope at times, but they're a shadow of their former self. As far as the latest games go, I've played Unleashed for an hour on the Xbox 360 and wasn't really impressed. I don't know if I'll bother to buy it. Sonic 06 was painful to play. I did like Chronicals though. Why can't they just make a game like Sonic Adventure 2? With all the modes and simple, straight to the point stories.

I honestly don't want to just run RLY FST through a stage filled with glitches for 3 hours =/ It's repetitive and boring.

It is true that Sega continually adds more and more characters to its series, but I don't exactly see this as impacting the "playability" of the game. If you go back to the beginning, you'll see that this is a trend they'be been doing for a while now. In Sonic 2 Tails was introduced, Knuckles in Sonic 3, Amy Rose in Sonic CD, and in the adventure series came Big the Cat, Tikal and the Echidna tribe, Shadow and Rouge are a few examples.

In regards to the storyline, I can't complain seeing as it's a story. Mario games, while fun, involve the jolly plumber saving Peach in a different place. ^^; The bosses being easy, well, that can best be left within the eye of the beholder. One could argue that the classic games had fairly simple bosses as well (see Sonic 1 in the epic match against Robotnik).

I think the point of Sonic games in general is pure platforming and speed. I didn't notice many glitches within the games when I played, but Sonic Unleashed, for me, satisfied my want of fast-paced speed stages (in the day, that is). If you choose to continue playing the game, the later levels should not dissapoint you. :T0:

Hawkfrost - January 20, 2009 01:24 AM (GMT)
I disagree with everything that's been said so far. Sonic 06 wad the best 3D Sonic game in my opinion. Hell, SA2 on the gamecube was more glitchy than 06! And in Unleashed, Which I hated, I died more times in Unleashed than I did with 06. Sonic 06 should be SA3, Unleashed should be re-named "Sonic Unfinished". Shadow the Hedgehog was enjoyable also, But it got boring after a while. Sonic Chronicles sucked, As did Unleashed. The first Riders game wasn't very good, But Zero Gravity was awesome! Black Knight promises to be good! Unleashed is in the past now, We should just let it die already so Sega won't make another Sonic game like that again. I played the PS2 version BTW. IT SUCKS.

Saki - January 20, 2009 01:42 AM (GMT)
The Wii version of Sonic Unleashed was cool.

In a certain way, the night levels make me think of Wii Boxing :P

Honestly, as far as 3D games go, I agree with you on this. It worked for 2D, but now that we're in the next generation, I honestly don't think they should try and replicate it as everybody says they should. I don't think that it should go back to 2D either, as the other half of the fanbase says. I'm honestly not sure what they should do at this point, but not what most of the fans say.

QUOTE

You state this as though it's a fact. Is there proof? Also, it's really hard to compare these two in terms of glitches, due to the fact one of them was on a more primitive console.

Saki - January 20, 2009 03:56 AM (GMT)
Sonic Unleashed is better than Secret Rings

Secret Rings:
first....they should have added a little more

Second....WTF? Darkspine Sonic looks like Zodick put into a sonic game! O_o

Unleashed:
All I can say is....it's hard to control jumps after dashing as Were Sonic in the night stages(died too much in levels with water -_-)

Controls & such are not that confusing, cept the speed boost

TailsTheFoxPrower - January 20, 2009 09:29 AM (GMT)
I have the PS2 version of Unleashed, and Isa find it verreh entertaining.

LOL, I seem to be the only person who doesn't completely hate Chronicles.... I find it a bit overly difficult, but I don't think its THAT bad.

I don't know that Ive played enough of the post Dreamcast games to really have an opinion on this, but it seems to me that the games got better from the beginning, went in a different direction and got worse for awhile. But from what I have seen, Unleashed is the best Sonic game made by Sega to come out in quite a few years. So I cant say I see Sonics death in the foreseeable future. xP Hopefully they will build on this, and keep improving them again~

Then get off your couch, buy an Xbox 360, and buy the 360 version.

I would think that's more of a fan complaint rather than the means responsible for the series falling apart. Either way, that tactic has been to their advantage. They create characters nonstop to aid whatever story they want to tell. It's an unfortunate truth that eventually some will have to be scrapped, or at least put on hiatus.

*Cough*Big the Cat*Cough* Darn those fishing missions! They were the bane of my existance!!! xD

Firestar - January 24, 2009 11:17 AM (GMT)
Actually I found the Fishing missions to be kind of fun. Sonic Adventure was really fun with Big. I'm starting to warm up to him. Amy's gameplay was the worst if you ask me. And I hate Omega! Sonic Chronicles actually gave Big a bit of humor. That's the only good thing I can say about that terrible DS RPG.

I can actually see his point here, but she was only in the Gameboy Sonic Advance series, so she never actually had a role in the story. Just say that she's a different sprite to use.
