The Last Airbender announcement:

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies will release M. Night Shyamalan's live-action bigscreen adaptation of the popular animated TV series "Avatar: The Last Airbender" on July 2, 2010.

Studio has dropped "Avatar" from the title of the action-adventure so as to avoid confusion with James Cameron's 3-D epic "Avatar," which 20th Century Fox opens Dec. 18, 2009.

"Airbender" is the first pic to claim that date.

The creators of the Nick TV series were heavily influenced by Japanese anime filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. Storyline revolves around a young hero who has the ability to manipulate the elements and stop a ruthless nation from destroying the three other nations.

Shyamalan, who will direct from a script he penned, said Miyazaki is one of the greatest storytellers in the world. "In 'The Last Airbender,' I see an opportunity to make a live-action version of a Miyazaki film," Shyamalan said.

Hmm a live action movie? Interesting. I have never really watched the series, but I might wanna see this.

Thierry"TrueAim"Prower - January 11, 2009 08:54 PM (GMT)
hmm sounds interesting. The fight with the fire lord was quite epic IMO. so I am quite curious how they will put that one off. :T0:

Trixie Prower - February 11, 2009 06:43 AM (GMT)
So am I, Sozan's comet PWNED.

EDIT: Jesse McCarney backed out, Dev Patel is now confirmed as Zuko. =o
It was also confirmed through various interviews with him on the other movie he did, just people bringing it up.
He seems hyped about it. :)
---------
Also, Here's what Jackson Rathbone said about his role:
"I'm focusing mostly on music and another movie I have coming up. We're going to be working on 'The Last Airbender' with M. Night Shyamalan, so that's very exciting." "I'm focusing mostly on music and another movie I have coming up. We're going to be working on 'The Last Airbender' with M. Night Shyamalan, so that's very exciting."

"It was great. They flew us all out to Philly," Rathbone remembered of his audition. "I got to meet the other castmembers that they hired on. I got to read with them, even. It was a blast. It was a great chance to get a free trip to Philly and get a chance to meet M. Night. He's an incredibly nice guy, and I think we hit it off pretty well, and now I get to play Sokka."

"It's a fantastic show," Rathbone said of the Nickelodeon animated series. "I've always loved that kind of deep, mythical fantasy. It's got a lot about the four elements: water, fire, earth, wind. It's just really cool. It's a really interesting series and such a cool character. I've always liked the show, and I thought it would be fun.

"For me, it's a great chance to show my range a little bit more," Rathbone added, comparing Sokka to his "Twilight" character. "It's a chance to do something a little funnier. Something less serious than Jasper."
--------
And Dev Patel says (According to TV interviews and such.) "he's eager to go from the mean streets of Mumbai to the fantastical world of Avatar." (He was previously in a film called "Slumdog Millionaire"

(Though not very much info, confirms he and Dev are in the movie.)

Whoa! A movie of Avatar? That's awesome!

Wonder where in the storyline it'll take place.

Trixie Prower - February 15, 2009 05:03 AM (GMT)
The first movie is announced to be a remake of the first season, there will be three movies, all different versions of the three seasons. first movie is, "Water" second movie is, "Earth" and third movie is, "Fire"
Also, the creators of the TV show are doing the writing for the movie while M. Night Shamalan's directing.

I'm super excited, was a little uneasy about Jesse McCarney doing Zuko, but now that Dev Patel is taking his place I'm way more satisfied and excited! ^^

Morgan the Hedgehog - February 15, 2009 10:17 PM (GMT)
A live action movie? Ehhh...I'm not so sure. I mean I never watched the tv series but......I just don't think shows such as Avatar should become a live action movie. I mean just last night when I was on a date with my boyfriend and we went to the movies, we saw a preview for a live action Dragonball movie. I complained like crazy.

But that's just me.

Trixie Prower - February 16, 2009 03:55 AM (GMT)
lol The Avatar fans are actually making jokes about that. XD
I would be against the idea too, only M Night Shamalan is directing, and he's a huge Avatar Fan, so I'm content it will be cool.
And most importantly, faithful to the series.

As for the DBZ movies, they scare me. XD

Isn't Zuko Katara's brother & the comic relief of the show?

Trixie Prower - February 17, 2009 07:13 AM (GMT)
Oh lol, no that's Sokka.

Sokka:

Sokka's the comic releif, then turns out to be the smart guy later on.
Is probably one of the most hilarious characters I've ever seen on a TV show. XD

This is Zuko:
user posted image user posted image user posted image

Zuko starts out the misunderstood prince of the fire nation. (AKA the bad guys)
Then basically goes on an impacting journey the whole show until he realizes what it is he wants.

I guess you might say he's the Shadow the Hedgehog of the show.

It's defiantly a unique show, most people think it's an anime cause it has Asian animators. ^^
The series is pretty fantastic if you can make it to the second season, which is like 100 times better then the first. :)

Comrade WereSonic - February 20, 2009 01:29 AM (GMT)
Fail...Just...Fail...Paramount pictures are in Hollywood, correct? They're making a DBZ movie, and it's made of fail. This will probably fail even harder.

O NOZ OPINIUN TIEM 2 WRN MEH

Trixie Prower - February 20, 2009 04:03 AM (GMT)
O.o Why would I warn you?

I agree on the DBZ thing, I thought the same thing about the avatar movie at first, before I saw the team and the creators were working on it. :)
