I was like, really bored so I started to randomly type. xD
Preface
Life that I thought was true, never seemed possible to me. Until that month happened in my life. This would be the story told by a smart 14 year old girl, her 14 year old friends, and her secret life. This is the story in which life will be revealed to the world and nothing can stop me from telling my story with the time period of a month. I warn you, there will be death, life, and many other things happening in this strange story of mine. But then again, there might be something worth reading with my stories. Maybe a story worth telling for once. I’m Lillian Carter, daughter of the game designer in the big city of San Diego, California. Yeah, I’m one of those “Cail Girls” you’re always hearing about. In my city, yes I like to think of it as my city because I’m a popular girl at school, I rule the waves and the flow of everything. Even if I am a freshman, I still have a bunch of friends who think I’m the coolest. But I’m sitting here blabbering on about how cool I think I am when I should be starting off with February 1st. You know, the first day of the leap year of 2006? Whatever. I’ll start telling you like the good little girl I am.
But then again, I should tell you about the peeps in the story here. I have mostly freshmen as friends, but I have at least one sophomore and a junior. All of them but one are gals. Cali Girls, like me. But then, all girls that live in California are Cali Girls. I’ll start with my BFF. Jillian Smith, or Jill for short. She’s been my best friend since kindergarten. And like all best friends do, we fight a lot. But it’s to keep our friendship a healthy one. She had long brown hair, straight. And she has these amazingly cute teal eyes. She also has these dark freckles across her nose, they look like splotches, like she’s been taking a brown marker to her pale skin.
Next is my friend whom I’ve known since like, 2nd grade. Krissy Parker. Krissy was such a pest. This chick was always up in your business, whatever it was. She was always asking the same thing, “What’cha doing for lunch tomorrow?” God, I was so sick of that sophomore. I can’t wait till she graduates in two years. She had this long wavy blond hair that reached her waist. Her eyes where this gorgeous brown and she had this creepy smile on all the time. Even the beauty mark on her left cheek freaked me out. Krissy had friends she hung out with other than me and Jill. But, whatever, like I cared.
Then there was my junior friend, Alana Marson. Alana had red hair that was curly, very curly at that. I’ve known her since 7th grade, so we don’t know much about another other than that we both like vanilla ice cream with peanuts in it with chocolate syrup drizzled on top. Her dark, almost cocoa like, eyes always hypnotized me when she smiled at me with her ruby red lips.
I guess I only have a friend in each “class” of High School.
But on with the real story now. I hope that this time I can actually tell the whole thing instead of bugging off without you. This time it will be real, so real you can’t deny my hurt and pain.
Chapter One
What To Choose
The phone on my bedside table rang in my ear at 3 AM, February 1st, 2006. I groaned, turning over to look at my clock and tumbled out of bed, pulling the phone down with me to the wooden floor of my bedroom. I groaned again and answered the phone. “Hello?” I asked tiredly, rubbing my eyes with my free hand. No answer. Only a buzzing sound was in my ear, like the phone did when it was off the hook without a caller. I sighed and hung it up, crawling up the side of my bed to get to it. The phone rang again. I groaned and answered. “Hello?” I repeated, only less tiredly. Same thing. I rolled my eyes and slammed it on the receiver, only to have my mother rushing into the room from across the hall. “Mother?” I asked, astonished she came in.
She sighed with relief. “Who was on the phone? I heard it ring twice,” she said closing her eyes and placing a hand on her chest, over her heart.
“Nothing,” I replied, glancing at the phone.
“Ok…I’ll get your father calm, he almost had a heart attack.”
I nodded, not replying and laying my head on my pillow. A sigh escaped my mouth as I reached for one of my most prized stuffed animals. It was a small Coka-Cola penguin I had received when I was 4 for my birthday from my grandfather, mother’s side. He had a small red satin bow, a red and white Santa hat which said Coka-Cola on it. I smiled as I found him and I snuggled him up to my chest.
The phone rang, again. I hesitated to pick it up. It continued to ring until it stopped. I figured mom had picked it up. I could hear her muffled voice and a “Yes sir, I’ll tell her.” I rolled my eyes, my smile gone. Must be a teacher, they were always picky about my grades. They where always slipping down a letter once every quarter. Mother came rushing back in when I heard a click, telling me the phone went on hold. “Yes?” I moaned to her, turning on my back.
“Someone just called for you,” she said, her blue gaze glaring at me, “About something I can’t hear about apparently.”
“Wha-?” I asked, picking up the phone. “Did you leave it off the hook?” She nodded and leaned against the doorway. I sighed and said, “Hello?”
“Hello, Lillian Carter,” a male voice said in my ear, “I’m just calling to let you know, you’re life is about to be changed forever. Weather you like it or not, things are going to be different for you and your family. And your friends.”
I hesitated to answer, and then the line went dead and I hung up. I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out of it. My mother walked over to me, and bent down, hugging me tightly. “It’s all right, dear…” she whispered in my ear. I nodded once as she let go of me and smiled weakly. “Good night. And don’t forget you have school tomorrow,” she reminded me, walking out of my room. I jumped out of bed and rushed to my computer. I was awake, might as well just wait for the next two hours. It had transformed to 4 AM now. I grabbed the mouse and moved it over the mouse mat a few times to wake up my ever sleeping beast of a computer. I signed on to my Yahoo! IM and saw my friend Krissy online. I sighed with relief and messaged her. She immediately replied.
Y r u up so erly?
Fone rang
Rlly?
Yep.
Who was it?
Random guy
Who?
Dunno
Comeone. Tell me.
I don’t know his name.
Recognize his voice?
No.
At this time I gave up and messaged her one more time saying ‘no idea’ and turned the computer off. I sighed and walked back to my bed, slumping into it. I pulled the blankets over my head, giggling.
Chapter Two
The Schooling Test
First things first, I have to tell Jill and Alana about the strange call from last night. I quickly found Jill, seeing as we have all our classes together. I rolled my eyes at her newest dress. Shop-a-holic. That’s all she is. This time she was wearing a long pleated navy blue dress with a small design of a moose on it that told me it’s Abercrombie brand. “Jill!” I called out to her, running through the halls to catch up so we could talk.
“Hey there,” she said smiling at me with her now blue coated lips. Did she buy Abercrombie brand lipstick too? I smiled back at her no matter what, as she is my best friend.
“I need to talk to you in private,” I muttered, putting a hand on her shoulder and steering her to an empty classroom, “It’s important.”
“Really now?” she asked, giving me her famous ‘glare & smirk’ look.
“Yes,” I said dryly, “I got this phone call last ni-”
“Ooooh! Who was it from?” she asked eagerly.
“I have no idea. I don’t have Caller ID, and you know that. It was a guy for sure though.”
“Secret admirer!” she said, jumping to conclusions. I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
“He said that my life was about to change forever and there is no going back. It will effect my friends, family, every one.”
“Secret admirer.”
“You know what? Forget it.” I mumbled and left the classroom, her being at my heel the whole time. I walked into Algebra with Jill still at my heel. I sighed and took my seat, as she went to the other side of the room, standing out in the crowd of 30.
The class passed quickly, not like it really mattered to me. The class was boring anyway… I mean with all the equations and the solving and whatnot, I’d rather have it cut out of my schedule.
I quickly walk over to art, a fun class which I’d see Krissy in. I spotted her blond hair immediately and she spotted my rusty blond. I was a strawberry blond at heart. She walked over to me and scowled. “Ok, what was going on last night on IM?” she asked stubbornly. At this I rolled my eyes and attempted to retell her. “So you’re saying a random guy-” she coughed, “-secret admirer,” she giggled, “randomly called you at 3 AM telling you that your life and everyone else’s around you are going to change?” she finished. I nodded a few times, glancing at the door of the Art Room. The bell hadn’t rung yet and the door was wide open. I made a move saying that we should get in our seats before the bell. She thrust an arm out to stop me, before I shoved past her, following the other 30 students in. She rolled her eyes and followed me.
We had no assignment today, we had a free period, as the teacher was busy messing with plans for tomorrow. So we just sat and talked for the time. Krissy turned to me. “Please explain exactly what the guy said,” she groaned giving me her famous puppy-dog-begging-look, “Please?”
I sighed and said, “He said exactly, ‘Hello, Lillian Carter. I’m just calling to let you know, you’re life is about to be changed forever. Weather you like it or not, things are going to be different for you and your family. And your friends.’ OK? I’ve told you all I know and heard. Please drop the subject.” I groaned.
She rolled her eyes. “Secret admirer…” she sang, turning to her other friend on her other side. I rolled my own eyes and glanced around the room. A boy with ruffled dark brown hair and deep blue eyes was staring at me. I was pretty sure his name was Miguel Porvator. He smiled at me when my gaze met his. I blinked and glanced away. The bell rang. I quickly stood up and walked to chemistry. We were doing a lab today. It involved an Oreo cookie and our teeth. Pretty simple if you ask me. Everyone had done this in Earth Science in 6th grade, so we already know what accretion is. But we’re doing this for review and fun. I, being oh-so-powerful and mighty against the teacher, got to pass out the cookies to everyone. Each person got exactly one cookie. I reached Migel. He smiled up at me and gladly took the cookie. I was pretty sure he was a freshman like me, so he probably would have heard of me in the halls, me being the oh-so-popular-prissy-girly-girl, which I was not. I was very calm and very non-Shop-a-holic. I quickly moved on to the table behind Miguel and his friend. Or should I say, Jill. I only know Miguel’s name because of Jill. They’ve known each other since 8th grade, so they just met.
But, what ever. Moving on. I reached my seat, farthest away from the teacher and I had two more cookies left. One for me and one for my partner. The grossest, most dumbest, disturbingest, strangest, person you’ll ever meet. Davy Hign. He was on the chubby side, so we didn’t match at all. He had potato chip crumbs all down his white t-shirt, so they stood out easily. I wonder if he’d get his cookie down his shirt too. I didn’t want to find out. So I face the teacher, who said to begin and he told us we didn’t have to turn in anything, just do the lab then eat the cookie. “Just take the cookie apart, by taking the top part off so the cream is on one half. Then put it upside down in your finger tips and slid it into your mouth across your bottom teeth,” Mr. Roman instructed.
I had picked up my cookie, and did as he instructed, quickly eating the whole thing afterwards. Davy had just shoved the whole thing in his mouth without even doing the lab itself. I rolled my eyes and smiled back up at the front of the classroom, when I saw Mr. Roman dig out a bunch of papers. What were they for? I was curious, but I said nothing about him doing this. Apparently Krissy noticed too. She had turned around mouthing out, “What’s he doing?” I shrugged, not knowing myself. So I nodded forward to tell her to look forward. Either he was holding a decent sized siring, or he was holding a giant paperclip made out of clear steel. I felt like I was going to pass out. Either he was going to give us shots, or poke us for blood. I glanced around nervously for something to cling to that was close by, but the only thing was Davy. If I clinged to him, he would think I’d like him. And I mean like, like like like. Like love like. You know what I mean, right? So I clinged to my desk for dear life. He started to walk around the class with it, giving everyone something. I fainted. Black out. Passed out.
I woke up in what seemed like hours in the Office, on a cot, under a blanket and my head on a fluffy pillow. “Wh-where am I?” I asked, blinked several times with Krissy, Alana, and Jill crowding around me.
“Health Office,” the three replied, sounding relived I was awake.
“Thought you were a goner there, Lillian,” Alana said, putting a hand over her chest, “I heard all about it and was called up incase you where hurt and needed a ride home.”
“Th-thanks,” I stammered, sitting up, feeling faint again, “Oh, Krissy, what was Mr. Roman doing?”
“Giving us shots,” she replied, “He did your’s when you passed out though, seeing as he wouldn’t have another chance.”
I fainted again.
“Lillian!” I heard someone screech as my vision faded.

Chapter Three
Death In the Making
But I felt like it was a dream. A bad dream. I was in the Office still, only asking where I could get a map of the school. My first day… The attendant handed me a map and I gladly accepted it. I pranced out of the room and to my first class. I skipped down to Science, a wide grin on my face. I loved Science. Never had a problem. Even dissecting frogs. I opened the door, only to see Krissy sitting in the front with the guy she met last year. Miguel. Great. He was with us. I prayed I wasn’t stuck next to the worst guy possible, Davy Hign. Turned out every other spot was taken, expect the one next to Davy. I sighed and sat down, my cheerfulness gone. I sat down frowning, my eyes tearing up. Davy was disgusting. He’s gotten more disgusting since then, but he’s gross. I leaned, ready for the first-day-of-school-speech-from-every-teacher-speech-thing. Mr. Roman, the Science teacher at my school, started to take attendance. He called my name. “Lilan Carter?” he called.
“Lillian, sir,” I said, blushing slightly, “Here.” He smiled at me and move on down the list. I closed my eyes, thinking it would be a fine year. It would be perfectly fine. But at that exact moment, Krissy turned around and smirked. She didn’t look normal. She had red eyes…and her skin was suddenly pale too. Fangs appeared as her teeth and I screamed.
I sat up bolt straight up. “Lillian!” the three girls said, backing away from me. Jill shook with fear and Krissy handed me a mirror. Alana had passed out. I took the mirror, and I had my own red eyes and paling skin. I swallowed hard and opened my mouth to reveal sharp fangs. I screamed again and dropped the mirror, shattering it on the tile. The nurse rushed into the room and picked up Alana, setting her on her own cot. I fainted again.
The dream continued from there. Everyone started to turn around with pale skin, red eyes, and sharp fangs. Except two boys. Miguel. He was starting to grow hairy, everywhere. And Davy. Davy stayed the exact same. I was turning pale and screamed for the 3rd time that day.
I became as stiff as a board, the nurse bet over me with a thermometer in her hand, ready to give it to me. I felt this strange sense to bite her… For no reason. She put a hand on my forehead and pulled away. I frowned at this and asked, “What?”
“Y-you’re freezing cold. Do you feel fine?” she asked, backing away from me. I nodded, obviously confused. But where the sun was hitting my skin felt hot. Burning hot. My arm started to smoke with pain as I pulled away from the rays coming from the window. I groaned with pain and dragged the blanket over my head, to cover all skin.
“It burns…” I moaned, keeping the blanket over my head.
“Wha-?” the nurse started and saw me hiding from the sunlight. “Oh!” She rushed to close the blinds as much as she could.
I groaned still, tensing tightly. I blinked several more times, not feeling the heat any more. I slowly pulled the blanket back off of me and shivered, seeing myself in a mirror. I was pale. Paler than pale. I blinked my now red eyes, that matched my strawberry blond hair, for once. Or, well, not really. But it was close enough. Did I still have fangs, though? I opened my mouth again, fangs still there. Great… This was always in some Horror Movie. Girl gets bitten by a…Vampire?! No, no, no. I can’t be a Vampire. I fainted just at the thought.
And the dream came back as soon I my vision went out. Davy turned to me, I was about to fall out of my seat, and he looked skinny…which didn’t fit him. He grabbed my arm to keep me from falling and I screamed. He pulled me onto the chair and smiled at me. His hand felt warm against my forearm. I pulled away, falling to the floor and quickly ran for the door. What I could see of my skin was starting to grow pale and…
I woke up again. Fainting apparently has a thing for me. Krissy was sitting at the edge of the cot, looking gravely worried. I smiled at her, but it was weakly, and she jumped off the cot, pressing herself against the counter. “Wha-what’s wrong, Krissy?” I asked, worry shaking in my voice.
“Y-you’re n-not n-normal,” she stammered, pulling back even further.
“What do you mean?” I asked, frowning.
“You don’t look normal. You look really faint,” she said calmly, though she shook.
“What?” I shook my head. “How?”
“You look like you could pass out any moment.”
“No, this can’t be right.”
“But it’s true…”
“Can’t be.”
“Is.”
“Not.”
Chapter Four
Vampire...What Does That Mean?
Whatever was going on, wasn’t normal. That was for sure. I flinched, watching the nurse…she looked good… and I mean to eat…Wait, what was I thinking? Not a vampire…not a vampire….I’m not a vampire…Argh! I’m a vampire! But why? Why did I have that dream? What is going on? I think that dream effected me in real life. My head was spinning and I stood up, only to be caught by Jill. “You need to go home,” she said, her own worried look on her face, “You have bags under your eyes. You should get some sleep.”
I nodded, wanting anything but sunlight, and school. But the strange thing was, I wanted blood most importantly. Jill propped me up on her shoulder and ended up getting Krissy to help her. They draped a jacket over me, wherever my skin shown. Just because they saw what happened when the sun touched me. They even put gloves on my hands. My head was thumping hard. What was going on with me?
They laid me down in the backseat of Krissy’s Toyota Hybrid Sedan. It was a navy blue. Matched Jill’s oh-so-fabulous-Abercrombie-brand-dress-and-lipstick-and-shoes-outfit today. I moaned when Krissy started the car and backed out of a parking spot.
The road to my house was bumpy, and I mean, rocky bumpy. I groaned the whole time, not making a move. Jill poked her head over her shoulder, seeing my head draped over with a jacket hood, there wasn’t really anything to see. I moaned, being able to tell she was watching me. “Stop…” I moaned to her, turning over.
She rested a hand on my shoulder. “Where here…” she muttered softly. “I’ll get you out of the car.” I moaned again, sitting up, facing my back to the sun. she opened her door and walked around to mine, opening it for me and grabbing a sleeve, pulling me out. I moaned again, and slung an arm around her neck so she could help me more easily. She lead me to my front door, ringing the door bell. It was only noon, so my parents where bound to be home, having lunch. The door opened, and my mother was standing behind it. I was going limp and she screamed.
“What happened?” she asked, pulling us inside. Krissy followed us inside, sitting on my other side on the couch that my mother had set us down on. “You look very faint, dear…” My mom said, putting a hand to my forehead and drawing away quickly. “Lillian…” she said softly putting a hand on mine. “Do feel ok?” she asked, looking worried. I nodded, not showing my face, keeping the hood up and my face down. “You should lie down,” she said, standing me up and asking Krissy and Jill to walk me to my room.
We reached it easily, as the two have always been to sleepovers at my place. I groaned, seeing my window’s curtains weren’t shut closed. Krissy quickly closed them, and tightly too. Jill lead me to my bed but I quickly jumped up and walked to my computer. I sat down in the chair and brought up a Google Page. I typed in ‘vampires’ in the search box, hoping to find some results and pushed enter on my keyboard. The second link on the page was a Wikipedia page on vampires, so I clicked that. Most Wiki pages are true. I started reading the page. Out loud.
“Mythological or folkloric revenants…” I said, reading the snipit on the first page, “Feed off blood of the living… No duh.”
“Why did you look up vampires, Lillian?” Jill asked me, her worried look reflecting off the screen. I read down, to see Vampire’s weaknesses.
“Stakes to the heart… Sunlight…” I muttered, “Garlic…Holy water…Crosses…”
“Lillian?” Jill asked. I was in fact ignoring her. She put her hand on my shoulder and I jumped. I whipped around, quite fast, and hissed, and attempted to bite her before she drew away. “Lillian…” she whispered, her eyes tearing up.
“Jill! I’m so sorry!” I said, my voice cracking. Krissy glared at me from the window.
“You should be ashamed. Attempting to kill your closest friend,” she said, shaking her head and grabbing Jill by the arm and dragging her out of the room. I groaned and closed the window on my screen and crashed onto my bed. I moaned, hearing footsteps come near my room. My mother was at the door. Her blond hair could be seen brightly in any light, not matter how dim or bright. I did have my hood off now. I guess I did look stupid thumping a pillow against my head. My mother walked over to me, a frown on her face. “What happened in here?” she asked, glancing at my turned on computer.
“Nothing.” I moaned, letting the pillow fall onto my face to muffle all sound.
“What just came running from this room didn’t look like nothing,” she said in her oh-shut-the-heck-up-and-tell-the-truth-tone. I moaned at this and sighed.
“I said it was nothing. Ask Jill and Krissy. I don’t feel social,” I grumbled, turning over onto my stomach.
“No. I asked you.”
“I searched up ‘vampires’ online and Jill was trying to talk to me and I snapped, almost biting her,” I explained quickly. I said each word with truth and sorrow, “And she backed away, tear-filled eyes.”
My mom made a move to hug me, before she drew her hands away, obviously remembering how cold my skin was.
“It’s fine. You won’t get frost bite or anything.”
She smiled slightly and hugged me anyway. I moaned anyway. She frowned. “Oh, and why did you search up vampires?” she asked.
“I think I am one…” I muttered, I felt my face become a bit hot. Like I was blushing.
“That’s ridicules. Vampires are fiction,” she laughed. “There’s one way to test… Sunlight.”
My eyes grew large, and I flipped onto my back, sitting up and pulling my mom by the shirt back. “No!” I whimpered. “Please, don’t!”
“What’s there to lose?”
“Me.”
“Don’t be silly.” She pulled out of my grip and started for the curtains. I shut my eyes and pulled my blanket around my head. “Please… stop…” I moaned as she had now opened the curtains and the sun was pouring on my blanket. I started to shake underneath it and moaned. The blanket felt burning hot against my skin and it burned. It burned badly. I screamed. “Stop!” She pulled the curtains back closed. I moved the blanket down out of my face. “Why did you do that, mother?” I asked, whimpering.
“Because I thought you where joking. Vampires would in fact do exactly that. But vampires are fictional, and I don’t know how you could have become one.” I rolled my eyes and gave her my oh-my-gosh-you-just-figured-this-out-look. She glared at me. “Fine. I didn’t believe it at first.”
I gave her the look again.
She rolled her eyes. “Ok, I didn’t believe you.”
I rolled my eyes and flopped backwards on my bed. “Why do I live with such a predictable family?” I asked to no one in particular.
“Because you were born to one are one of them.” my mother joked.
I rolled my eyes and turned to face my wall. I grabbed the nearest toy I could. Just so happened to be a quiet new toy. A rather medium sized elephant. Not to big, not to small. I mean, not like a BeanieBaby. And not one of those giant toys you get at a fair. It was in the middle. And it was huggable.
It was the nest morning, and I was getting dressed in a hoodie, long jeans, and sneakers. And socks. And gloves. And a scarf. I was super worried. I didn’t want to burn to a crisp like all those vampires in legends. I admit I was overreacting. But overreact was my middle name. And so was procrastinate. But that was besides the point. I walked into school, my gloved hands shoved down in my pockets. I groaned, feeling the heat of the sun on my back through my sweatshirt, jacket, and long-sleeved shirt. Krissy came up behind me. “Going to blurt it to the Principal?” she asked me, smirking. I glared at her and shook my head. I pulled the sweatshirt’s hood to cover my head up tighter. She sighed and walked ahead of me. I found Jill.
“Jill-!” I started, and she fled. She fled like I was some kind of monster. Tears started to fill my red eyes. I shook my head, not believing my best friend thought I was a monster. I might have looked like one, but I guess my fangs so near her arm scared her so badly that she’d be avoiding me for a while…This could last weeks…Months…No. I must be optimistic about this. Ugh… I was hungry. I went to a snack machine and put in a few quarters. But then I groaned, nothing looked good… I mean, it all looked like poison. Even the Cheetos. Which is saying something. I groaned again, glancing around the school. I’d have to find some sucker to suck on later…I wonder where a girl could get some blood…That wasn’t the blood bank. Or the Red Cross. It was to far. And I can’t drive.
So I sighed and walked on to Art. The blocks changed everyday. One day you could have Art and P.E and Math, or Language Arts and Social Studies and Science. So It’s kinda random every day, but they e-mail us the way for the next day. But today I had Art first. I followed Krissy into the class. We got to make clay things. Great… I had to roll up my sleeves for that…And I was scared to go to the nurse…She would freak. So I just told the teacher, Mrs. Kennelly, that I had to sit down, and couldn’t roll up my sleeves because of bad scars I had revived yesterday skateboarding that I didn’t want to show off and couldn’t get anything in under the bandages.
She nodded and allowed me to sit in a corner and I pulled my sweatshirt’s hood tight around my head, blocking out all sunlight, as she had placed me under a window. I moaned, her hearing me clearly. She walked over to me with a worried look. She had always looked after me. “It hurts,” I moaned, holding up my arms, letting them flop back down to my sides.
“Oh dear...”she said, loosening my hood, causing me to pull it back together, and tighter. “What’s wrong?” she asked me.
“My arms hurt…” I moaned, the sunlight was hitting them, and it was starting to burn my skin. I felt the heat easily. She glanced at my arms and sighed.
“How badly?”
“Bad…”
“I’ll send someone with you up to the nurse. Miguel!”
I froze and tensed. He came over anyway, his forearms covered in red clay. “Yes?”
“Please take Miss Carter to the nurse.”
“Yes ma’am.” He glanced down at me, holding a hand out. His deep blue eyes matched well with his dusty blond hair. His perfect smile… His perfect face. I took his hand and he pulled me up, up to his chest. He let go of my hand and smirked, walking me out of the classroom. I watched in amazement, his mid-length hair following him carefully.
My red eyes watched him walk ahead of me, and I stopped. Watching Miguel’s beauty. He turned, obviously not having heard my footsteps behind him. “Coming?” He started to walk in my direction, his perfect smile coming down on me… I felt my knees tremble under me and fell, only to be felt like I was lifted up off the ground. “You look tired.” he said softly in my ear.
“I am.” I mumbled, looking up at his deep blue eyes.
“Why?” he asked, looking into my red ones. “And why are your eyes red?”
“Didn’t sleep last night,” I said, moaning. “And I got contacts,” I lied.
“To make your nice green eyes red? How’s that work?”
“Dunno.”
“Find that hard to believe.”
“Then don’t.”
“What’ev.” I mumbled, glancing away from his stare. He started walking again, me in his arms. The walk was a bit bouncy, but I sure as heck didn’t mind. And it felt like I fit perfectly in his arms…I felt my face get hot. He had moved down my hood as I closed my eyes.
“You’re skin is all pale,” he commented. I gasped, and started to moan again. He blushed, pulling my hood back on. “What’s wrong?” he asked, sitting down on a bench, setting me next to him. I hesitated to answer.
“You don’t want to know,” I mumbled, pulling the hood down lower so it shaded my face.
“Yes I do,” he said softly, leaning in toward me, as if to hug me. He put an arm around my shoulder, his expressionless face turning into a smirk.
“No, you don’t.”
He leaned in till his nose was just a few centimeters away from mine. His tan skin looked darker, way darker, close up. I backed away quickly. But his perfectly deep blue eyes were irresistible. I instead pushed myself closer. Why did he have to have perfect eyes?! He pulled me closer even more. Our noses crisscrossed and our lips met…
Chapter Five
A Curious Mind
I wondered what the heck just happened, as he let go of me, a smile spreading across his lips. That he just put to mine. My lips tingled from it and I stood up. “We should either get back to class, or the Office,” I reminded him, standing up and staggering to the side. He grabbed my arm, and pulled me close. Too close for my liking. My chest was now pressed against his. Again, felt like a perfect fit. He slipped my gloves off and I moaned again. They were starting to burn…I screamed, causing a few students to walk out of their classrooms and stare at us. I felt the heat on my hands and dropped to the ground on my knees, as Miguel let go of my hands and I shoved them in my pockets.
Krissy was among the crowd and knew my secret, so she came rushing over, helping me up and rushing me into shade. I moaned at this sudden movement and I leaned against the pole she had brought me over to. “What happened?” she asked me, glancing around, slipping my gloves back on to my hands as she asked.
“Miguel kissed me,” I mumbled, watching him carefully. He was shuffling his feet, and blushing madly. I don’t blame him.
“Seriously?!”
“Yes…” I moaned, closing my eyes and almost tipping over when she caught me. “Thanks… I really need to go home. I don’t feel good, like I’m about to pass out again…” She smiled weakly and called Miguel over. I groaned. “No.”
“Why?”
“He kissed me.”
“And?”
“He kissed me.”
“So?”
“He kissed me!”
“What’ev. He’s coming with.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“Fine.” At this she smiled and picked me up and Miguel rushed over to us both.
“Yes?” he asked Krissy.
“I need some help here…” she replied, heaving me up. She fell within seconds and Miguel picked me up instead. He followed Krissy to her navy blue car and set me down in the back seat. He smiled at me and sat in the front with Krissy. I fell asleep within seconds of laying down.
Dream came back. I got them every time I passed out or fell asleep it seemed. I was now running to the parking lot, desperate to get away from the school. I’d run home if I had to. I reached the corner that led to my house and I felt my skin starting to burn. And burn…And burn. It started to smoke and I took cover for the shade. But I was in the shade and it seemed to be causing it. I took the sunlight. My skin started to freeze. Freeze and that’s it. It started to freeze so badly that it burned. I stopped and looked at my arms. Ice. I sighed and ran faster, faster till I got home and-
The car stopped and I was being nudged. “Lillian?” a male voice said softly. I groaned, opening my eyes slightly to see the perfect looking boy, Miguel, leaning over me looking worried. “Come on. We’re at your place.”
I moaned and took the hand he offered me and he pulled me out into the sunlight. I moaned again at this and he pulled me into his chest again. He let go suddenly and he walked me to the door. I knocked and my mom answered the door. “Dear…” she mumbled and pulled me into a hug, “What’s wrong?”
“I can’t stay awake in class,” I mumbled so that Miguel couldn’t hear me.
“Oh, come on in…” she said, pulling me inside, and closed the door without noticing Miguel or Krissy walk up behind us. She pulled me onto the couch and frowned. “Is it because of…?”
“Yes.”
“Well, I doubt that going to school is going to help anymore… We’d have to find you night classes.”
“Ya think?”
“Yes.”
“Well, how soon?”
“At least by tomorrow.” I moaned at her answer and turned on the couch so I was laying down instead. She put a hand on my forehead again only, not pulling back this time.
“How about you test your temperature.”
I shrugged and let her walk away to find a thermometer. She came back a few minutes later, shaking an old one we had. It was one of those really old ones that used mercury instead of being electronic. She put it in my mouth and I clamped down hard on it, just hard enough to keep in it place under my tongue. It was perfectly normal after waiting for half an hour. I moaned, not liking this whole thing. My mother put a hand on my shoulder. “You should get some sleep,” she said softly, putting the thermometer away and the doorbell rang, twice. My mom sighed and walked over to the door, opening it widely. Dark skin and nice white skin. Krissy and Miguel. Great. My mom smiled at them, letting them in and they both sat me up, flanking me on either side.
“So what’s up?” Miguel asked.
I frowned at him and leaned on Krissy, who hugged me. Miguel sighed and hugged me as well. “Sorry about earlier.”
“Whatever.”
“I really am.”
“What happened?” my mother asked, being always up in my business.
“Nothing,” me and Miguel said in unison.
My mother gave us the, shut-the-heck-up-and-tell-the-truth-look again. I rolled my eyes, not wanting to cave this time. Miguel looked at my mom curiously as my dad walked in. “We had company?” he asked, rubbing his eyes. Ok, this was awkward. Miguel smiled at him shrinking slightly into his seat.
“Dad, mom, this is Miguel…A guy from school.”
My parents looked at him with suspicion.
He put up a hand and waved slightly at the pair. “I’ll just be going now…” he said, standing up and walking towards the door. He glanced my way before he walked out the door and my dad glared at me. He didn’t say a word, but he turned and walked back the way he had come. My mother looked sad and walked after him as Krissy hugged me tightly.
After she let go, I stood up and went to my room. Quiet alone time sounded wonderful to me at the moment. So I got into my bed and covered myself up with the blankets. I fell asleep within minutes.
It came back again. Only Miguel wasn’t there. And neither was Krissy. Or Alana. Or Jill. Nobody that I knew was in this dream. Only me. In a white world. Of nothingness. It reminded me heavily of a part from the book, Coraline, where she walked far past what her ‘other mother’ had created and ended up in the white nothingness. I walked around the white and empty room, curious as to why I was set here. Especially since it was a dream and had nothing in common with me. I walked around, and a tree started to form. I smiled slightly at it and started walking toward it. It dissolved. It went almost as quickly as it had came, and I frowned, it returned. I continued to frown, and more trees started to show. I smiled, and they all disappeared in the whiteness of the room. I sighed and walked around the white room, and heard footsteps. I turned around, breathing heavily. “Who’s there?” I asked loudly. No reply, and the footsteps ceased. I sighed again and they sounded again.
I sat up, the sun was setting and my mom was at the door, shaking her head. “‘Who’s there?’ Lillian, it’s only me,” she said softly, walking towards me. I moaned, and let myself fall back and pulled the blanket up over my head. “Dear…” she sighed, turning to leave. I moaned and fell asleep again.
And so it started again and I heard the footsteps, she was leaving. The white room was all around me and I walked. I walked until me feet bleed and ached. Nothing was stopping me from walking, because it looked like I was just walking in place. For no reason.

Chapter Six
The Big Talk
I woke the next morning, a frown crossing my lips. I glanced up at the mirror across my room. I didn’t recognize the girl staring back at me, but it couldn’t have been me. I stood up out of the bed, and she did as well. I blinked, she blinked. I heard a knock on my door and I went over to it, it was my dad. I froze when I opened it and he was standing there glaring at me. “Morning, father.” I said, my voice small.
“Lillian Marana Carter. You deserve a talk,” he growled at me. I looked confused before he said, “About boys.”
I froze on the spot even tenser than before. Did he not know what I was going through? It wasn’t my fault that Krissy brought Miguel here! That was all Krissy’s idea. I sighed and replied, “Look, dad, it wasn’t my fault. Krissy brought him over, I had nothing to do with it.”
He glared at me. “And what makes you think I’m going to believe that?” he asked, glaring hard. My breath caught.
“Because…I had fainted at school….and Krissy isn’t strong enough…so he had to carry me to the car and I woke up when we got home,” I said somewhat lying. I never fainted. That was the one white lie I just told.
“Pausing to think, hmmmm?” he asked, glaring harder. “I guess we’re just going to have to talk right this minute, then.”
I sighed and walked to my bed, being careful of the sunlight with a reply ready, “Dad, I really tired. And you gave me the speech the day before school started this term, remember? You told me that boys would be interested in a little blond girl like me with my small freckles. Please don’t tell me these dangers again. I made a mental note last time.”
“Well then, your mother will talk to you instead. Carol!” He glared at me and left the room, calling my mother’s name. I sighed and sat down on my bed, rolling my eyes. My dad was such a dad! Why had I been cursed with this? What happened to me the other day? Gosh, that felt like is was last week. Today has gone by like a bird flying south for the winter in a day. My mother came in to door. “What’s up, sweetie?” she asked me, walking over to my bed, sitting down next to me. I shook my head, shrugging.
“Dad tried to give me the speech again,” I mumbled, looking out the window.
“He’s just worried about you, Lily,” she said, smiling at me, carefully stroking my hair. I smiled back, only weakly. She hugged me as I breathed in, and jeez did she smell good. It wasn’t her shampoo or her soap, it was her blood. I pulled away from the hug, smiling still. “I was wondering about you…” she said softly. I tilted my head, now confused. “How did this happen to you?”
I froze in my place. “You want me to just write about the whole experience?” I asked, rather hesitantly.
She laughed and shook her head, “No, dear. But you may, if it will be easier that way for you. Start with the beginning.”
And I so jumped to my computer, which had been moved out of the sun and into shade. I turned it on and started to write from the morning the call was made. The other morning. Two days ago. I started from exactly what I remembered, what the man had said in my ear. I froze up, letting my fingers fly about the keyboard. The memories flooded my brain as I watched the words appear on the Word Document. My mother watched from over my shoulder, a sad smile upon her lips. I ended it with when my dad had left the room and when my mom had came in. “There,” I said quietly. “Everything from three in the morning to now.”
My mother had been reading as I typed, however crazy that sounds. She smiled slightly more, hugging me again. I tried to hold back. She let go of me and smiled sadly. “I hope we cane find a way to reverse this, Lily.” She smiled again and left my room.
I nodded, staring at my words. I added what had just happened. I climbed back to my bed, frowning up at my dark blue ceiling.
I went without dinner and ran downstairs the next morning, ready to sit on the couch sulking upon the fact I couldn’t go to school anymore. My mom looked saddened as she saw me up at the usual weekday time, sulking upon the couch. My dad had left for work, and my mom was always a stay-at-home-mom. She was calling all the night high schools she could, but they had no room. Sounded like she’d have to home-school me. Or not school me at all. Or send me away for a few years. She sat down next to me, the phone in her hand, looking sad. “Lillian, I can’t home school you, and so I have no other choice but to send you away for a few years,” she said tears in her nice blue eyes. I didn’t know that I could read minds…Or did I just randomly guess and she read my mind? “How’s London sound?” she asked, tliting her head. I frowned and shrugged, allowing her to go on my computer to order a plane ticket to London. A few minutes later, she came back in. “Good thing you have a passport. Now go pack, the plane takes off tomorrow at noon.”
“But I’d rather go to Italy…” I muttered, frowning. “Fine. I’ll go, but what will I do if I get ‘thirsty’?”
“I’ve made plenty of bottles the other day, and every day since then. It’ll be okay, Lilly,” she said, smiling slightly. “They’re in the fridge.”
I glared at her and stood up, carefully walking over to the fridge and opened it. In the door were 4 bottles of red liquid. My mouth watered and my eyes grew wide. “You’ve made a big mistake mother. When I come back, I’m defiantly going to be killing you,” I said smirking. “But then that depends on how good your blood is.”
My mom froze at this and grew wide eyed as well. “You wouldn’t do that, would you Lilly?” she asked, her voice weak.
“I said it depends on how good your blood is,” I said smiling at her.
