Title: Which Doctor do you prefer ?

Mike the Hedgie - March 7, 2009 09:18 PM (GMT)
Which name do you like for the doctor ?

Edwardvs Rex - March 7, 2009 09:29 PM (GMT)
Robotnik because it sounds less cheesy than Eggman, seriously TV directors for cartoons really take the piss when it comes to fitting characters and themes to their target audience. Eggman is a villain that only a three year old would really take seriously, not a bunch of 6-12 year olds, to them its just a dumb joke. Robotnik fits the audience much better and even that sounds a bit corny (not too much though).

Comrade Firestar - March 7, 2009 09:32 PM (GMT)
Just so you know, The games have ALWAYS called him Eggman. Even the classics. Robotnik was just made up for the cartoon series. The only time Robotnik was cannon was in SA1 and 2. But they soon dropped that, And went back to Eggman.

Edwardvs Rex - March 7, 2009 09:35 PM (GMT)
yeah I know, Eggman was the Japanese version which influenced the games, whereas Robotnik was actually the American version which influenced the first three TV series and the comics (which are now changing to Eggman). It just gradually got swallowed up by the Japanese version. Its a shame.

I still enjoy the comics mainly because they still refer to him as Robotnik, but even now, he is gradually being swallowed up by the Eggman thing

Trixie Prower - March 7, 2009 09:43 PM (GMT)
I like DR. Eggman better.
Cause in Sonic Adventure, Sonic insulted him saying "Look it's a giant talking Egg! what's up Eggman!"
And rather then the Doctor getting annoyed with the Eggman thing, he rolled with it. XD

Saki - March 7, 2009 10:42 PM (GMT)
Actually, Eggman is just Robotnik's nickname because of his egg shaped body.

Pretty much Trixie just told you.

Woppy - March 8, 2009 10:32 AM (GMT)
Robotnik sounds better. Reminds me of the days when Sega didn't struggle to make a brilliant game.

Súdruh Iceguy Tyehlicska II. - March 8, 2009 11:59 AM (GMT)
Eggman, it has been Eggman since the beginning. And besides, Robotnik sounds more like a pun on "robotník", which mean "worker" in Slovak, rather than on "robot" =P

Missy - March 8, 2009 01:30 PM (GMT)
On the games, there has been a Robotnik somewhere. Not just Eggman

I like Eggman better, it sounds more funny and amusing to kids that actually watch the show =P

Lisa Fox - March 8, 2009 11:11 PM (GMT)
Dr. Robotnik sounds more Doctor like. *shot*

I'm more used to Eggman, but it's so cheesy. LOL it sounds like a joke; Robotnik sounds serious am=nd makes him seem like more of a threat. lawl

Cute lil Fox - March 9, 2009 01:53 AM (GMT)
uhg...guys, he's always been Eggman in Japan, and Robotnik was his American name. Robotnik was supposed to be backwards for "Dr. Kintobor" his original alias, until he took over the kingdom of Acorns, in which he declaired himself "Dr. Robotnik."

I prefur the name Dr. Robotnik. There's more sotry behind it, and it makes him that much more of a villain. =D

Red Fox - March 9, 2009 07:20 AM (GMT)
You suck CLF!!!! XD You beat me to the Kintobar explenation.....Well...I guess I can only give opinion now. :P

for the comic series I like Robotnik. Game wise I like Eggman. the jokes Sonic has are just wrong!

X prower - March 9, 2009 07:36 PM (GMT)
hes one person...but weve apparently established that ^^; sorry...I like the sonic adventure version...the sonic 2006 version was ugly and not as funny to me :3

strike the dog - March 9, 2009 07:38 PM (GMT)

actually that depends on whether you mean the tv series/games or the comics because in the comics, Robotnik and Eggman are two seperate people because in issue 50, Robotnik was killed by his own machine called "The Ultimate Annihalator", some issues later, another Robotnik from another universe fills the gap. It is this Robotnik which is refered to as Eggman, not the original. So they are kinda two seperate people in the comic.

In the whole main scheme of things though, eggman is the same person as Robotnik, just modernised though. I prefered everything about the original Robotnik from SatAM. from appearance to voice. Much better

Sunshine the fox - March 10, 2009 01:55 AM (GMT)
Well Dr. Eggman sounds more funny. Dr. Robotnik sounds more cool.
I think I like Dr. Eggman the most! XD

Actualy, that is also inaccurate. He was "Robo-Robotnik" who got killed, and transfered himself into another body called the "Eggman" body. He took the alias he gave to the robotic body he made for himself. He's still robotnik, just with a new nickname. XP

Sniper - March 11, 2009 12:52 PM (GMT)
Robotnik, cause he's the most epic and evil enemy char. Eggman is just stupid and soft, he doesn't deserve to be world dominator x3

Neo Metal Sonic - March 12, 2009 02:31 AM (GMT)
I like Robotnik better :T11: It's like the most best name of all time! just don't get me wrong :T14: it's better then eggman, since there are weird sonic jokes about his new name of eggman it's like come on why would a evil genius have a werid name like thart? but why not just keep his original game since Sonic 1?

Actually, they kept the original name since Sonic 1, since in Japan, he´s been Eggman since Sonic 1.

SBaby - April 22, 2009 03:13 AM (GMT)
I pick Robotnik. And in answer to someone who mentioned it above, the US version of Sonic was using Robotnik all the way through Sonic 3-D Blast. It wasn't until Adventure when the US Sonic adopted Eggman as his official name. But in Japan, it was indeed always Eggman.

As for the reason to my choice of Robotnik over Eggman, let me show you a couple things. Just to give you an idea.

And one more, just because I can.

And, yeah. That's why I like Robotnik more than Eggman. I mean, look how sinister he was.

pokeplayer984 - April 22, 2009 03:59 AM (GMT)
America made him PURE EVIL, and that's the kind of villain I like, so it's Robotnik in the end for me. Japan, they actually put some good in him. Eggman just doesn't work as a rather threatening villain.

He was called Robotnik all the way up until Sonic Adventure 2. (Remember the game "Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine?") All his machines had the word Egg in it though, for whatever reason to this day. :P

Robotnik sounds much better than Eggman anyway.

I completely agree with this person. SatAM Robotnik is the one I prefer. Instead of a joke like Eggman is now, Robotnik actually poses a threat. While Eggman is still trying to capture the world (And failing miserably), Robotnik in SatAM has already practically accomplished that. Plus the intimidation level for SatAM's Robotnik soars higher than the games' Eggman.

For a good analysis of how Robotnik of SatAM is really the more preferable one IMO, Watch the AOSTH/SatAM review by the Nostalgia Critic. He explained better than I could.

I always thought that Robotnik-prime (name for the original robotnik) was killed by the ultimate annhialator and then in later issues, Robo-robotnik took over and then did the changing body thing and became eggman. Its also kinda suggested in #197 where sonic says "the real robotnik died. The one I'm dealing with comes from another zone"

Oh well, I think he dies soon in issue 200 anyway lol
