Title: The Sonic Franchise must die
Description: no matter the cost.

Strelok - March 20, 2009 06:53 AM (GMT)
This was taken from Game Informer's "Connect Opinion" section. Before you all spas out with "OMG YOU UZING MEDA TO MAK US TINK BAD BOUT SUNIC!!!" I'm going to state I mostly agree that this is truth-derived and untouched by biased media. It also explains much, Before you start ranting, read the wall of text.

Yuji Naka, "The Sonic Franchise must die, no matter the cost."

I admit to being a little saddened when I left Sega to create my own studio, but not because I was abandoning the company and co-workers who had supported me for years. I was dismayed that I did not fulfill my ultimate goal to kill Sonic the Hedgehog.
I had made significant progress; abysmal titles like Sonic Shuffle and Shadow the Hedgehog went a long way to erode confidence and test the limits of gamers' patience. However, the job was far from done. before I left Sega, I secretly met with Sonic Team to deliver one final directive: The Sonic Franchise must die, no matter the cost.
They embraced their mission with alarming enthusiasm. The team devised terrible and incongruous concepts, then cobbled them haphazardly into a loose approximations of games. They Expanded the cast of Sonic's repulsive anthropomorphic friends, including Hedgehog-on-Human romance, and even threw him on a hover-board - twice! I was overjoyed. "This is barely even playable," I laughed as I played Sonic and the Secret Rings "Mission Accomplished." I hadn't counted on you, the gamers, on ruining my plans. No matter how hard Sonic Team tries to create a game not even a die-hard fan could love, you stupid goons keep buying the garbage. Seriously, they turned sonic into a "werehog" whatever the hell it is. Think about that for a second; what part of werehog sounds even remotely not stupid? That doesn't matter to you, apparently. As long as it has Sonic (Or one of his insipid friends), you'll eat it right up and ask for seconds.
This is my plea: Stop, I beg you, let Sonic die with some dignity. Don't make the team suffer the humiliation of creating yet another game where Sonic transforms into some kind of genie or dragon... or something with a magic butt. Because that's where things are going, and if that doesn't stop you, heaven help us all.

For the most part, I agree with him, except for the part about his friends being repulsive or Insipid, Tails is the only adequate character.

Bottom Line - Stop wasting your money on Sonic Games.

............O.K. I don't know what to respond to that with. It just....doesn't make sense since Sonic Unleashed was a pretty good game. Even some of my friends who don't particularly like Sonic actually enjoyed it. I highly doubt this is a true article anyway, since his name is Yuji Naka, not Nuji Naka.

My Mistake, My mistake.

It was spelled Yuji as explained, I just left the typo unattended.

Very sketchy this is. Sonic is Sega's mascot and the fanbase is still strong. I believe whoever did it, Is very good at making this look real. Sonic's not going anywhere. >.>

Disregard this post, please.

Shadow's Wife - March 20, 2009 02:32 PM (GMT)
Yuji Naka failed us.

So he just made good games, and then BOOM. Short, inconsiderate, and as Shadow says... ''insufficient'' games. Wow.

But heck, I'm still playing the games. They still have a bit of good in them.

A few words to say here.

APRIL FOOLS PRANK :'D

H.Ashes - March 20, 2009 08:00 PM (GMT)
Ummm....very early April Fools joke? XD

Tails Fox - March 20, 2009 09:05 PM (GMT)
Even though the gaming industry is basically becoming a big marketing campaign, I actually still enjoy the Sonic games. Sure, 06 was glitchy and Werehog wasn't the best idea for a story, but what are you gonna do? and Chronicles was a wonderful game. There's still hope for a turn around, though you won't get the Adventure series back.

Like everything else, gaming is becoming all about money anyway. This isn't just Sonics problem, it's everyones. They'll tell you themselves that they don't care about the gameplay much anymore, it's all in marketing :/ The "golden age" is over, sadly

Súdruh Iceguy Tyehlicska II. - March 20, 2009 09:23 PM (GMT)
This is ridiculous bullcrap.
This is madness.

@Tails Fox: If they don´t care about the gameplay and the game is gonna be total crap, who´s gonna buy it? No effort, no money.

AugieD - March 20, 2009 10:13 PM (GMT)
Yes, it's an April Fools Joke.

Dude, that part is a joke!

really, not that many would agree anyway <_<

Oh thank God its an April fools joke!

Believe it or not, Sonic has changed my life... I would be darned sadden if this was actually true!

Kilo - March 21, 2009 01:50 PM (GMT)
Thankfully it was just a joke obviously since that's like seeing Miyamoto say Zelda needs to die. But I don't think the series needs to die but needs to be seriously retooled, basicly start from the beginning and go from there. Start it over, because it has turned into a train wreck in the modern world, a mere faint shadow of its formar quality. Personally I think rather another company alltogether or maybe get a whole new staff for Sonic Team who are top-tear developers.

But Sonic is still a series that everyone knows and obviously there's many fans still out there who just want a good Sonic game. Even if it takes 6 years, they should retool the whole series and start from the drawing board or hand it off to another company like Capcom, or even Nintendo.

This is the dumbest April Fools Joke ever.

Seriously, it´s, like, light years away from funny. They need to be sued by Yuji Naka himself. Untouched by biased media my butt. God forbid Sonic haters were to get a life.

Lucifer Sam - March 22, 2009 06:45 PM (GMT)
I actually thought it was worth a chuckle or two. I've never found Game Informer to be all that funny, but that's not exactly what I turn to a video game magazine for. But yes, it's clearly a joke, as anyone who saw the physical magazine should be able to tell (it says "PARODY" in big letters at the bottom of the page, and it's part of a mini-zine called "Game Infarcer").

And even if it wasn't a joke, there's no reason for anyone to get their panties in a wad over it.

Súdruh Iceguy Tyehlicska II. - March 22, 2009 07:32 PM (GMT)
But Sonic is serious business...

._.;

Hiroko K - March 22, 2009 09:34 PM (GMT)
Wow. I can't help but to laugh at this joke XD Yuji Naka would'nt say anything like that. Especially since it'll never happen, Sonic has a huge fan-base, and he knows that.

Who ever typed this must be really stupid XD

You raise a good point. I hereby completely change my stance on the matter. Game Informer must die, down with Sonic-haters, etc.

Well I admit I was shocked at first that Sega would even dare to do so. But now when I think about it more, it dose sound kind of funny... XD

At least you'd still have the memories of it if it were all blown away. Trust me, even if the franchise dies, most or some of the fans will stay strong, for Sonic Team's older, much older games and whatnot were great-- the new ones just suck. I'm sorry, but I agree; I haven't even played any of the new games, so maybe I'm being prejudice, but after I played halfway through the first level of Sonic and the Secret Rings, I lost my patience. Haven't played it since. When they bring back the Chao Garden, wake me up. :\

I don't exactly see how that could've been a joke, anyways-- it's not like they were talking about how they'll buy away Sonic the Hedgehog... just how they want fans to stop "wasting their money on new Sonic franchise." How is that a threat more than just a simple opinion? Maybe I overlooked something, but still.

Black Hero - March 31, 2009 11:13 PM (GMT)
This is an Aprils fool's joke period.

This should be obvious even before confirmation from other sources because of a two very important questions that no has asked yet.

Why would YUJI NAKA of all people say this about Sonic?

And More importantly,

WHY would YujI Naka say that when the games he's developing are being funded by Sega?

Speed-X - April 2, 2009 01:39 AM (GMT)
Oh, it was "told" by Yugi Naka. I guess I didn't pay much attention to that part.
