Just a quick oneshot I wrote to the song "What Hurts The Most" by Cascada. You probably won't get a lot of it. Enjoy it anyways and please please please tell me what you think! n__n
"Morning, Chrona!" Maka Albarn said cheerfully, smiling as she poked her head in the door. Chrona immediately jumped up, eyes brightening and a faint pink rising to her cheeks. "M-Maka-chan!" She squeaked, giving her friend a shy hug.
"Hehe... Nice to see you too, Chrona." Maka chuckled, grinning and making the pink-haired girl clinging on to her blush. The two girls seperated, one grinning like a chesire cat and the other smiling shyly.
"Wh-where are we gonna go today, Maka-chan?..." Chrona asked softly, cocking her head to one side like a puppy. For the past few weeks, the scythe technician had been taking Chrona to all the many fun places in Death City. Chrona was like a little kid being taken to the carnival, fascinated by everything as if it was all so new to her. Really, Maka was quite sure most of it was new to the sword tech...
"Where would you like to go?" Maka asked, speaking in a soft, almost motherly voice. She put a hand on her friend's shoulder, although she was hesitant to do so. Chrona was still getting used to phyical contact, after all...
Chrona was silent for a moment, as if unsure. Then, she looked down at her feet, but simply to hide how red her face had turned. "...I-I just want to hang out with Maka-chan....!" Maka blinked in slight surprise, then laughed softly. "Okay, Chrona. We could hang out at the library!"
Still blushing, Chrona looked up, smiling just as shyly as ever. "O-okay..."
So that day, the bookworm and the witch spent hours together, talking, reading, laughing...
And the witch couldn't help but feel some sort of attraction to the other girl... Although she didn't know the name for the feeling she felt so strongly, the witch.. Had fallen in love.
But the witch didn't know that the bookworm had fallen for someone else... Or what would soon happen...
A few weeks later, Chrona was patiently waiting, sitting on her bed in the guest room. It was morning, and she was waiting for Maka to pick her up so they could hang out together. The scythe tech seemed to be coming by later and later each day, and their time together seemed shortened... But it didn't matter, right? They were still best friends, after all...
Today, the witch had decided to tell the bookworm of her feelings. She had so much to tell her... Chrona felt this emotion so strongly it made her dizzy sometimes. Although now she knew that there were three words that could express what she wanted to say: "I love you."
The door creaked open slowly. "Chrona?" Instantly the pink-haired one leaped up and flung her arms around the other girl's neck, smiling and blushing and clinging on tight. Usually, Maka would laugh at this and hug the witch tightly... but today, she didn't. She flinched.
"Chrona...." She gently pried the other off of her, looking awkwardly up at her. "I'm sorry, but... I'm here to say goodbye."
The witch's heart nearly stopped. "...W-w-what?... Goodbye?..." The bookworm sighed, then smiled awkwardly. "Me and Soul-kun... Are... Well, Mama is going to be staying in Japan for a few years, so we're going to go stay with her for that time. I'm sorry."
"...Oh..." Chrona tried to smile back, hiding her despair, forcing herself not to cry. "I-I-I'll miss you..." The bookworm was already turned around to walk away, walking in her usual brave, independent manner.
The witch started to hold up one hand, tears starting to fall down from her eyes. She wanted to pull the bookworm back, to hold her, to kiss her and tell her, "Don't leave me... I love you... Don't go!" But the witch didn't have the courage. The witch merely stood there, crying silently, one hand raised slightly, while the one she loved walked away.
I should have told you, Maka-chan...
The door closed slowly as the bookworm walked out.
Maka Albarn... I love you.
Now if only she had been able to say it...
