Title: Magic
DkGamer - June 3, 2006 03:53 PM (GMT)
I don't think anyone has mentioned this before in the forums. Other than some occasional passing on it.
Well, my question is..... how much do you know about magic? Like cards, fork bending, mentalism, etc. And what stuff do you have? Like dvds, etc.
I believe that most of us who has performed magic do know about ellusionist.com and penguinmagic.com. I personally for one, do NOT like to buy stuff from them. Unless it is extremely hard-hitting. Even so, I was extremely dissapointed at some tricks such as criss angel's levitation video etc.
So, if you are able to, list down some stuff that you know :P
Me:
1. Card Magic [Main Forte]
2. Mentalism
3. Coin Magic
4. Levitation
5. General. [Spongeballs, shell game etc]
Personal Experiece
I was actually introduced to magic by stuth a long time ago. When he showed me the ambitious card. For beginner's, its the routine where a spectator choses any card and signs it with their name. And the magician mixes it around and around, placing the card in the middle and with a snap of the fingers, the selected card jumps to the top of the deck. Wekk, it truly stumped me. But I did'nt exactly went into it seriously until I was bored. Michael had really helped me ALOT in this area. I won't disclose what he had actually shared :P But well, I feel that magic is a good way for an icebreaker especially if you want to meet someone. The main problem is normally trying not to disclose the secret to your friends. I always have problems with that. But occasionally, I do screw up a trick or two. Overall, I really enjoy magic as it is real fun. And probably also because I like to figure out how things are done from websites like ellusionist. If you observe well enough, you can be close to figuring out the trick. I've figured out Infusion, Criss Angel's DVD vol 1 & 2, the Shapeshifter etc
Dvds:
Mostly from Ellusionist and PenguinMagic
If you know more magic websites, please feel free to post them here, I do not know much about this stuff cause I am quite a new magician. I will update this list of websites if there are any new ones.
NOTE
Please try not to disclose a trick on how it is ACTUALLY done. I think most magicians know that by now :P The classic saying "A magician never reveal his/her secrets" is so true ><
Websites:
1. www.ellusionist.com
2. www.penguinmagic.com

IMO i dont liek tricks that uses like rigged sponges dice, etc.
i like card tricks, really practical and rubber band tricks
and dkgamer, what kind of levitation? there are many kinds.
DkGamer - June 4, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
the usual levitation, where u can levitate, or u can make a card levitate etc. But I rarely do so because I really don't like the angles used in levitation. I have already said that I was extremely dissapointed with criss angel's version oflevitation. The angles used were to sensitive. You can only do it for one or two people if you don't like getting caught. And you will also have to stand a good fair distance away to avoid getting caught. I don't like levitations at all because their area of weaknesses are too huge. If you were to do it, it would be best that you leave it at the end of your performace as people will start to believe that you have magic powers. That just me :P
Well, the rigged stuff it may be a little hard to use them. But you can always use stuff like glasses, cans, coins, forks etc You can borrow them to do stuff which are impromtou like infusion or the quarter through soda can. You will be able to get big reactions because the stuff taken are totally from them and they know that there is no possible way that you can gimmick them. Well maybe slightly if you are doing fork bending.
Card tricks also explores to an area of gaff decks. I don't usually like gadd decks because I like my performace to be extremely clean at the end of the show. I like to show the cards at the end of the show to let them see that it is a real pack of cards. I would normally just switch them at the end of the performance or just switch them after they inspect it.

ROFL... that was real funny.
Edit: And on a side note... I especially hate the "figuring stuff out" side of magic.

Heavyweapon - June 22, 2006 09:10 AM (GMT)
Haha i love magic... it's fun to perform and look at the surprised faces of the audience..
I do mostly coin+ card tricks.. and a bit of levitation with cards/ small objects... I also kno a lot secrets to a lot of magic.. but I'm jus too lazy to practice them <_<
Btw, who else does magic here?
And one more thing.. I kno of this magic forum.. but I'm not gonna bother posting it b/c it'll jus ruin the fun of those who just want to learn the secrets... but if u're really into performing magic... go google for it.. that's all i hav to say, cya ;)

I really like magic too, but I'm not allowed to buy stuff online, so I can't get any of the supplies and stuff for it. Also, its kind of expensive to learn, because you have to pay for all the tricks, I've found a few sites that tell you how to do card tricks that are sleight of hand, but most of them require you to pay to learn other tricks.

I personally don't use props for my magic... only a normal deck of cards.. and once you know how some of the tricks work... you'll soon figure out many others.. a lot of them are actually quite simple. And once you know how to do the trick, just practice, practice, and practice, until you get good and you can share your tricks with ur magic friends.
There are other ways (for free) as well... I don't want to post them here cuz it's jus gonna ruin the fun of some of you. But if you really into magic and everything, pm me..

Okay, someone showed me this and I was absolutely amazed... I looked it up on youtube no tutorials... Just demonstrations....
Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFwIMSGIfIATrust me its not just spinning the pencil he let me examine the pencil when he was done.... It had a No.2 on the top and an other one near the bottom... THIS IS KILLING ME GAHHHH!! Does anyone know how to do it? I know you probably need a special pencil but still.
K4S - June 29, 2007 06:57 AM (GMT)
I know how its done, but i do magic as a hobbie so i know things haha. The trick itself is very simple but difficult to present. The person performing presented it very well though. It's not to hard to figure it out, think harder :)
ShoeMan - June 29, 2007 04:24 PM (GMT)
I believe that I figured it all out,, but I'm not ggonna try and explain it incase I am wrong :P
Alucard - June 29, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
thats so easy..... but it needs training but its very easy!
Zombo - June 29, 2007 09:27 PM (GMT)
i believe he has two pencils, one with one on top and one at bottom, and the last one he used with one on top and one long.
sketching - June 29, 2007 09:46 PM (GMT)
It seems straight forward enough to me...
The main part of the video should have a single pencil with 2 graphics: one at the top on one side, one at the bottom on the opposite side.
When you flip the pencil over, you also rotate it, so that the pencil looks like it has 4 places with graphics appearing instead of just 2.
It's about rotating the pencil in time with flipping it over (or waving your hand in front of the pencil).
At the end, he switches pencils off screen to get one with the larger graphic.
DaThroat - June 30, 2007 03:15 AM (GMT)
this is cool!! i never thought of using this move on pencils.. i always used it on butter knives and stuff to disturb people when their eating.
AzNwAr3oR - June 30, 2007 04:01 AM (GMT)
No he doesn't switch pencils trust me.... A person at my driving school did it... And didn't explain it. Actually.... He could have done it when no one was paying attention but I kind of doubt that.
DaThroat - June 30, 2007 07:02 AM (GMT)
its called the pedal move or something like that, and it isnt vey difficult to switch pencils if you have a little misdirection.
Toast - June 30, 2007 01:04 PM (GMT)
He probably switches it for the last part.
And its not the called the pedal move. I think its called the paddle, as its motion represents thus of a paddle rowing through the water.
However, his motions are very subtle, so I don't think he uses it. Or maybe he has mastered the move very well.
EDIT- Oh, I get it now...watch carefully.
I'm not going to spill anything. It got me fooled the first time i watched it :P
Jestermagic is great, i love his patter.
Zombo - June 30, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
watch the video without sound, it will help you.
AzNwAr3oR - June 30, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
I think I might get it now...
Onyx-o7 - June 30, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
