Title: PenDolSa

elliot - June 18, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
What exactly is PenDolSa? Is it a pen spinning community like this, but with just a lot more features?

And where does their shop get their pens?

Anyway, what I'm getting at, is should there be an english pen spinning pen shop? Based in America or Europe?

I'm just wondering how feasible it is.

RippDrive - June 18, 2006 08:10 PM (GMT)
Well the thing is that those Asian communities have huge membership. I just don't think the English community is big enough to keep a shop in business.

elliot - June 18, 2006 08:15 PM (GMT)
Well if we found a wholesaler etc. Then we could order pens as needed to start. Then if it became popular, then start buying pens in before they have been ordered (keep a stock).

It wouldn't be a business, but a way to get pens that you can't find :P

RandomNewb - June 18, 2006 08:27 PM (GMT)
PDS is the Korean penspinning community located at http://cafe.daum.net/990701.

The thing with their registration is when you live in Korea you get a "residential code", therefore in order to look at some of their posts and etc. that is required.

I believe Mr. LSC or whoever the manager is buys pens in bulk from the manfacturers (Dong-A, Pentel, Pilot, etc.) so they will get it cheaper and a ton of it, and also a good point that they have a ton of members since their registration is like Korean people only and it seems a lot of them are going crazy over this hobby so it's a good deal for them.

So I dunno, I guess we need more people then buy in bulk? I think we should do when UPSB3 comes out in the future. For now just trade with whoever has the stuff you want.

elliot - June 18, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
Well I don't know how well UPSBv3 will go. Firstly most people will need to be told that it is open, and if you don't continually check, then you won't know at all. And of course starting a new forum (it is new as in no posts really), is very difficult.

The only advantage over this forum is that they have better software, a better URL and more control over their hosting.

(if anyone knows any good UK sellers of pens then PM me lol)

tokuwee15 - June 19, 2006 02:03 PM (GMT)

That sounds alot better than 52 USD.

Ivan the Terrible - June 19, 2006 09:32 PM (GMT)
But still 6.3 US dollars is alot for a RSVP MX. That is 1200 SIT. That would be the cost of 4 HGGs here.

TurbulentTurtle - June 20, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
This has been discussed before, but there just aren't enough members in UCPSB and UPSB for this to happen. And this trading system has been working fine so far, so I see no need for it as of yet.

There's also been talk back in UPSBV2 about UPSB merch, but that could get expensive, and since we don't have enough people interested in that stuff, it would be hard to do. Not to mention, it would take lots of time and money to accomplish that, and pen spinning IS after all, just a hobby.

Ivan the Terrible - June 20, 2006 12:03 PM (GMT)
The only person who make money out of PS is MR. LSC. But I find it more interesting with all this trading stuff and modding instead of just buying modded pens.

DarkArcher - June 20, 2006 12:21 PM (GMT)
The cost should not matter much because this is a hobby. If you have the passion for something, you should be willing to go all out and get what's needed as long as it's affordable. I don't think a shop is feasible because the trading system works well enough. Besides, after getting pens that you need, it'll be a while before you would want more so it's not so lucrative a business.

It's not that hard to trade actually and besides, trading helps to bond the PenSpinning community as you have the opportunity to get to know your trade partners and stuff.

I strongly agree.

I don't think 6.3 USD is too much for an MX: if you love to spin. I used to build models, and would drop about 50 USD easily without a thought-- for a model that I really wanted.

I guess its all how you look at it, though.

TurbulentTurtle - June 20, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
The cost to buy the product shouldn't be bad if you're willing to fork over cash for your hobby, and I can honestly say I wouldn't mind doing it.
But I was talking about the production costs...

elliot - June 20, 2006 03:12 PM (GMT)
You lot are also assuming that only PSer would buy pens. I am strongly under the impression that most people purchase pens to write with :P

I know it'd be hard, but I'm willing to bet that it would be of some use to some people. Say if you can't get hold of any pens worth trading, and you need a foreign pen...

H-J - June 20, 2006 03:32 PM (GMT)
btw
when you order some things he usually put some extra pens in the package.
I have got 4 free pens from him.
and 5 comssas for 9 dollars isnt so much

elliot - June 20, 2006 06:27 PM (GMT)
That is pretty good. Well if anyone finds out how and where he gets his pens, please PM me :)

If you're talking about Mr. LSC, he gets his pens from the actual companies in bulk, or he makes them himself.

*leaves computer and reads a "idiots guide to reading korean" book*

Sathon - June 21, 2006 01:02 AM (GMT)
I heard that some korean doesnt like pds store and how they sell pens. I don't know maybe they want to keep it hobby not business.

neXus - June 21, 2006 10:43 AM (GMT)
I once had a dream of selling "Modding-Kits". Like a shop that sells a "RSVP Mx-Kit" Its a RSVP, a HGG and maybe some tools to do the mod. This dream got busted by two things. Money and the availability of RSVPs and other pens in germany. I'll maybe try to get some money from some freelancing work and buy 500+ Pens from an office shop to realize my dream.
