Tombow Mod (based on Swifter's mod)

you need 2 tombows, a new tombow has one big cap on one side and a small one on the other, you just take another big one and put it over the small one

2 Tombow markers
- take a cap from 1 Tombow
- stick onto the back of the other Tombow
Some kind of grip for the caps. Example:
- turn an RSVP grip inside out
- cut grip in half
- slide each half over one of the caps
The Tombow Mod uses 2 Tombow ABTs...

Keep the smaller cap on, just slide another larger cap over it.

I'll take over...I kinda brought this mod to the table, and it IMO is the greatest pen for spinning of all time. I have used pretty much every pen there is out there and this one is great because it is perfectly balanced, looks clean has a good amount of weight to it, it is long, and it is durable. But to mod it is super simple. add a large cap to the back side and add grips. Sketching said to use inside out rsvp grips, but the best grip on this pen by far is the papermate profile grip, mostly because the caps are quite wide and can be difficult to stretch tight grips onto. the profile grips are stretchy and really easy to put on. the only other thing you can do to this mod is use and eraser ir something to rub the writing off of the body of it...I do this cuz it looks cleaner and I like the all black.

This is one of the heaviest pens and takes some serious getting used to but ones you do it is magical. it has lots of momentum and is great for balancing...it is just all around great, and everyone should get then to try, it is worth it. Unless you have tiny hands, then it looks a little wierd, kinda like you are spinning a giant wand or stick.
FallenSeraph - June 27, 2006 08:49 PM (GMT)
honestly im jus looking for a heavier version of the comssa without sticking on wierd looking tips.
is the diameter about the same?
oh and is bleach supposed to be the white caps? b/c they look kinda transparent to me... okay i guess im asking which color did yiep get his white caps from?

It is thicker than a normal Comssa, but not by too much.

i think the white caps is the "blender" one look online at all the colors i pretty sure thats the white capped one
FallenSeraph - June 28, 2006 03:45 AM (GMT)
went to acmoore and bought some very similar pens called leplumeII. its lik the exact same pen except the cap is a slightly different design. tried it out and its amazing. lik exactly wat im looking for. profile grips for amazing infinities, length and weight for good momentum, centered cop, and decent width. even has the comssa effect. =)

I made a thread on the upsb board a long time ago that introduced the tombow, the le plume II and the pentel color pens as a replacement for the comssa.
The problem with the le plume is that the ink leaks bad, and the cop is not quite as centered as the tombow, but still good for spinning. Also It is not as thick or heavy as the tombow. But I suggest that you still try to get your hands on a tombow.
Also as far as the "white caps"...the closest to white is the blender and the caps are a bit transparent but they still look alright.
Rennac - June 29, 2006 02:51 PM (GMT)
i was looking at all the colors and isnt n75 or cool gray 1 closer to looking like "white caps" than the blender
FallenSeraph - June 29, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
lol i ended up randomly finding tombows in this third party office supply store's random bin.(yes alot of randoms) closest i could find to white(they didnt have a large selection) was this blue tinted white. and it is alot better than the leplumes. thicker for better handle during sonics, heavier and longer. props to sub for finding this. lol the only problem now is taht when i go back to mx or comssa, they start flying out of my hand... i think a leplume with tombow width would be the best... but oh well

I just drove all the way to JoAnn's and found out that these things cost $29.99 for 10 of them. And there's no duplicate colors in the package...

It is wierd, some of them the writing comes off easier than others...but try using an eraser.

this kinda looks like a keyto sign pen
soory kinda off there
anyway do the towbow fit on playcolor 2 ???
Ivan the Terrible - July 4, 2006 07:37 PM (GMT)
I found this pen without knowing that other people use it. I currently use it like Subpar does. But when I got it I tried modding it a bit and took the ink out. It was like light as hell. I'm pretty sure that it was lighter as a MX.

Yes, They fit perfectly on.

Take some pliers and pull out the the side were the small cap is. Be careful so you don't make a mess.

Alrighty, I split discussion of the further modded Tombow Mod into a new thread:

Those caps are HUGE
Sfsr - May 17, 2007 02:41 PM (GMT)
One can also cut away 1cm from the back of the pen before putting the Back Plug back to get a shorter mod ^^
