in the newest update for the psp it comes with java. you have to have a wireless router. how'd you get macromedia flash anyway. I've been trying to get it because I can't watch youtube videos. :HMMM: I don't know what firmware I use and how to check it either. The PSP just came with network updates.
Yiep - July 8, 2006 11:18 AM (GMT)
DS is getting a Opera webbrowser in some months =)
onkeybell192837 - July 8, 2006 02:17 PM (GMT)
I heard about it too. that'll be awesome. I can't wait.
sliPrix - July 8, 2006 03:12 PM (GMT)
to check your firmware, go to system settings ---> system info. I really hope you didn't upgrade yours past 2.6, and preferably not past 2.0. Upgrading past 2.6 eliminates your chance of running homebrew (Applications people made such as NES, SNES, Sega, emulators and UMD loaders.) So what does this mean? You dont have to buy any games for psp, you can just download them, and it has the capability of runing multiple game consoles. In addition, you can get web browsers better than the standard psp one, and run flash and java applications (with the right software). It really is quite fun, I have approximately 97% of ever Nintendo game ever made!!!! :D
Pinoy - July 8, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
wahhhhhhh
how do i get homebrew
how do i degrade to 2.6
and onkeyball, how did u get java, what upgrade version are u on
sliPrix - July 8, 2006 05:35 PM (GMT)
PSP Updates you can get homebrew and downgrade information there. However, if you are above version 2.6 you will not be able to downgrade as of now, but they are working on it. One more thing, downgrading may result in turning your psp into a "brick" which means it wont function. There is a 95% success rate out of like 300 people that downgraded from 2.6 or 2.5, and downgrading from a lower firmware is even safer tho. Your goal is really to get to firmware version 1.5 to run homebrew. If you are past 2.6 you could do what some of my friends did and trade with somebody on a lower firmware. Just read and follow directions carefully and you'll be okay.
Pinoy - July 8, 2006 06:05 PM (GMT)
soo, when i get the downgrader, i should get 2.0 right away to get homebrew
and what happens once its a brick
sliPrix - July 8, 2006 06:24 PM (GMT)
Well when you downgrade it should go to 1.5, if you "brick" it, your psp will look like it turns on, but it wont display anything on the screen. This is because something failed when rewriting the firmware to flash memory. So your psp basically wont work again, unless you get a modchip and reflash it. What firmware are you at right now?
Pinoy - July 8, 2006 07:19 PM (GMT)
2.71
so if it bricks, what else do i do
return it? call them?
UnEmploymentDude - July 8, 2006 08:36 PM (GMT)
OLD! This "news" has been out for,.... at least a year right? When was Wipeout Pure hacked?
Oh yeah, let me rip those songs for you.
grsbmd - July 8, 2006 08:56 PM (GMT)
Have any of you psp owners ever used PSPaint?
A kid in my class at school wrote it, so I'm curious.
sliPrix - July 8, 2006 09:28 PM (GMT)
If you are at firmware 2.71 you can't downgrade yet, so dont try it lol. btw this news came out last week or something about the 2.6 downgrder =]
Pinoy - July 9, 2006 06:44 AM (GMT)
so what are useful things to download onto the psp
i wanna watch youtube stuff on it
sliPrix - July 9, 2006 04:22 PM (GMT)
Well, since you have the 2.71, you really wont be able to download anything for your psp that sony isn't providing, so I guess until then youtube might have to wait, or until they crack the 2.71 firmware.
Pinoy - July 9, 2006 04:30 PM (GMT)
well, when they crack it, please post here, i really wanna do more stuff on the internet, like flash player for cartoonnetwork XD
sliPrix - July 9, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
lol ok, i'll keep ya posted.
Rocky - July 13, 2006 01:17 PM (GMT)
Can someone tell me if 2.7 downgrade is out yet? I accidentally upgraded my brother's PSP so he was mad about not being about to play SNES games anymore.
sliPrix - July 13, 2006 04:03 PM (GMT)
It is not, but I think they are making huge progress, idk for sure tho...http://www.pspupdates.qj.net for more info and updates.

You need a 2.0 firmware or lower, (downgrade to 1.5) and an emulator with some roms to play "those" games. The emulator can be found over at
PSP Updates or
PlanetPSP. For teh roms, hit up google, and search for roms for your console you are emulating.

It is pretty cool and now can be accessed via 1.5 firmware using a program entitled
DEVHOOK. This useful utility can emulate all firmwares made for the psp including 2.71. This means no need to upgrade because a game makes you, or you want the features of a different firmware.
Ohh btw, with DEVHOOK you dont need to buy psp games, you can download them, pop any pspgame in your umd drive, and run the downloaded game from the memorystick.
Pinoy - July 14, 2006 02:49 AM (GMT)
did u try it
u can run DEVHOOK with 2.71?
any chance of bricking?
how much space do i need on my stick
i just looked on the site and it says i need something to get devhook for 2.71
sliPrix - July 14, 2006 03:46 AM (GMT)
Hey umm you can't run it with 2.71, it has to be run on 1.5, the purpose of it is to emulate firmware, with 2.71, you have the most recent firmware. BTW, did you IM me strider, cause I was afk if that was you. Umm yeah feel free to talk to me on msn/aim if u have any more questions too.
Donk3y - July 14, 2006 04:00 AM (GMT)
or me! cuz yeah i know a fair share about psp stuff, minus whats been happening recently with all the devhooks cuz i've been out of town. but yeah feel free man, aim u know me.!
Alex - July 14, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
The DS web browser will be released in Japan on the 24th of July. You can also order it from Lik-Sang.

neXus - July 14, 2006 09:39 PM (GMT)
I have a psp. FW 1.5. I do homebrew, iso's ... so yeah. I just want you to know that ... lol hehe
Alex - July 15, 2006 01:00 PM (GMT)
PSP > DS graphically
DS > PSP in every other way
Speaking of the DS, 3 of my friends who had PSP traded them in for DS Lites. lol
sliPrix - July 15, 2006 05:11 PM (GMT)
HA why would you trade for a DS? Umm I guess I just really dont see what is better in a DS than psp. Homebrew for PSP has gone so much farther than DS, the community is bigger, and we have some of the top homebrew developers on our PSP side =]. What are some good things you can do with a DS?
Pinoy - July 15, 2006 05:30 PM (GMT)
Alex - July 15, 2006 11:44 PM (GMT)
The DS and PSP both have their own good and bad points. Both are supported by third-party developers, and both have gone very far.
I just happen to prefer the DS. I don't want to start a "DS vs PSP" arguement. I've already been through enough of those..
