Title: IRC Channel?

moerkedal - August 24, 2006 11:39 PM (GMT)
hi

does an penspinning irc channel exist?

if not

lets create one or?

here can you download the irc client
http://www.mirc.com/get.html

Mats - August 24, 2006 11:41 PM (GMT)
Alternatly, we can all get MSN. There are fairly regular chats on MSN people. Sign up and post your address in the MSN addresses thread.

RippDrive - August 24, 2006 11:55 PM (GMT)
I would much prefer IRC. I mean first of all MSN has a totally shitty multiple person chat. Second you need to be invited to an MSN chat. Third, we can't have fun stats and shit for MSN chat. Fourth, no chat bots. Fifth, gay emoticons, need I say more? Sixth, IRC doesn't allow custom unreadable stupid fonts. Seventh, IRC has much better file transfer. Eighth, more people can get in IRC. And finally, not everyone has MSN or wants to get it, I mean honestly, MSN is Satan's chat.

I'm all for IRC, it's a much better way to chat in my opinion. And MSN totally sucks donkey balls. If we were to get an IRC channel what server would we put in on? I personally don't know a whole lot about the different ones or which ones are better.

moerkedal - August 24, 2006 11:59 PM (GMT)
i would prefer quakenet.org

its the best for this community i think
because most of the user here are playing internet games
and all irc channel for internet games and stuff are in quakenet

and they wont quit all their channel just for joining the penspinning channel if its not in quakenet

....against msn is also that you cant install a bot in the channel to kick and perhaps bann spammer and people who try to take over the channel

Zombo - August 25, 2006 12:03 AM (GMT)
sure, but i cant guarantee people will actually go there to have a decent chat.
upsb chat was nice because it was easily accessible from the board.

and you could see how many ppl were logged in the chat so if there were people in there, you'd be more interested to go in.

RippDrive - August 25, 2006 12:07 AM (GMT)
@moerkedal: You can only connect to one server with your current client? Maybe it is time to consider switching.

@Zombo: We have decent chats here? or on msn? I don't think there would be any way to integrate a chat into the current site so IRC seems like a pretty good option.

moerkedal - August 25, 2006 12:17 AM (GMT)
and if you got an irc bouncer
your irc account is always online although if your pc is and internet is offline

so you can recieve messages while you are offline like an answering machine

Zombo - August 25, 2006 12:18 AM (GMT)
not here, on UPSB, we had 10+ chatroom

"Most people in the chatroom - 18 - March 10th 2005"

I agree, we need iRC. We can use a Java Applet for people who dont like to install stuff. I'm even willing to use EFnet.

Zombo - August 25, 2006 12:57 AM (GMT)

moerkedal - August 26, 2006 12:03 PM (GMT)

yessir - August 26, 2006 03:52 PM (GMT)
ok i already downloaded the american one and i made my username what sever are you guys in lol

Zombo - August 26, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
irc.quakenet.org

room: #ucpsb

RippDrive - August 26, 2006 04:12 PM (GMT)
In the first window you will want to type

/server irc.quakenet.org

Then once the server window pops up you want to

/join #UCPSB

I know we have quite a few firefox users here so I would like to post a link to Chatzilla. It's what I use for IRC and works just fine. It is a plugin for Firefox so you don't really have to install anything new. I hear there is a way to run it in a tab too but I haven't tried.

yessir - August 26, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
mine keeps saying unable to find firewall address

RippDrive - August 26, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
turn off your firewall?

Eriror - August 29, 2006 06:40 PM (GMT)
[20:40] Connecting...
[20:40] Unable to connect : java.security.AccessControlException : access denied (java.net.SocketPermission irc.quakenet.org resolve)

Hm...?

Zombo - August 29, 2006 06:50 PM (GMT)
check ur firewall

RippDrive - August 29, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
I would suggest getting another client. The Java one works fine most of the time but there are better options.

rorixbladewing5 - August 31, 2006 08:37 AM (GMT)
Copy this link into your browser i think it should work with mIRC :

irc://irc.quakenet.org/UCPSB

RippDrive - August 31, 2006 04:23 PM (GMT)
Only if you have mIRC set up to handle irc protocol links.
