Title: Why is Fingerpass a Fundamental?
Toast - September 11, 2006 11:28 PM (GMT)
ever since is tarted ps, ive always thought that fingerpass combo never really fit the requirements of a fundamteal trick. i mean, theres already a utility trick pass, so wtf?
its just a combo of passes... <_<
like i can think of ever trick that expands from either a thunmbaround, a sonic, and charge.
and utility tricks (tricks that dont require learning) like pass and wiper
and before someone starts going on about spins, spins are acutally a part of the sonic family.
like you guys would all agree sonic 1.5 is sonic failmy right?
and also shadow right?
shadow is acutally a indexspin 0.5, the index and shit just hybrid a charge before it
and its push is made by the middle
now this would be the same as a thumbspin simnce a thumbspin is basically the same thing, but only looks really different since our thumbs are opposable.
palmspin would just be a variation
charge can grow into twisted sonic with passes and stuff etc, and TAs jsut cover all arounds, baks, and busts.
FINGERPASS?
what does that cover?
nothing more than just apss alone covers.

Fingerpass (the entire combo) helps to build up coordination in your fingers and helps them to get used to moving a pen around and inbetween them, especially in regard to the Pinky finger. That's why it's a fundamental, even if it is a combo.
Fundamentals help to get you used to moving the pen around and are fairly easy to learn. Do Fundamentals have to incorporate all families of tricks? No. They have to just provide a foundation and encourage the new pen spinner to try to learn more tricks.
Edit:
Are all fundamentals neccessary to learn before moving on to harder tricks? No.
They are just a few tricks that help a new spinner get into the hobby that are not terribly hard to learn. That's all they are, nothing special.

fundamentals is like setting a sturdy foundation. haha i always wanted to say that.
but seriously
like sketching said, it helps with coordination and smoothness and stuff. along with makin your fingers stronger.

I've always thought that fundamentals were the building blocks for every trick in the penspinning world. /shrug
guess im wrong, but i do remmebr reading soemwhere that it was like that
too bad i cant fnd the source. it was a reliable one too

Twisted sonic is a modified pass, basketball spin starts with a pass, neosonics are based of passes, tricks with fingerless passes are a lot easier to understand if you understand fingered passes.
I think the fingerpass is a valid fundamental. Knowing helps to some degree in the long run. Also I always do fingerpasses as a warm up before I start spinning, for that reason alone I find it a useful combo.

those are PASSES
not the fingerpass combo itself, i mennitoend in my post that pass is all that is needed.
anwys, its a valid fact that it is not a fundamental if a fundamental was defined as building blocks for every trick.

Fingerpass increases pinky strength, thus making tricks such as Ringaround easier.

Like sketching said, exactly, plus it makes all your finger way more nimble!

i actually never properly learned fingerpass. i think doing sonic risefall harmonic did alot more for my finger flexibility and speed. although after doing a bunch of charge passes, my fingerpass is actually getting decent

Fingerpass is fundamentals combo. That's combo is very important for beginers, because it training finger and it's very easy. I training fingerpass 3-4 month before i started to training another tricks.

I think that the fundamentals are just the easiest tricks, that makes a easy start at penspinning... Fingerpass is a quit easy trick, pass is not really a trick, that is just a movement...
I am more likeli to ask why infinity not is a fundemental, that is also a quit easy trick...

how do you define "easy"? easy is very subjective. furthurmore, fundamentals mean basics, and not easy tricks. some pple find k4lc an easy trick, but it by itself is not a fundamental.

What you thought is right in a way, The fingerpass helps make your fingers less stiff and strengthens the pinky and other fingers too so it's easier to do other stuff, fingerpass is like one of the most awsome tricks if done properly, look at bonkura for example or nhk in his promo. Newbs always think of fingerpass as a trick thats why they always do the whole thing in combos example i used to do fingerpass -> infinity -> TA -> sonic -> fingerpass. A weird Fingerpass combination was my first trick and I taught almost all of my friends it cause it's also the easiest to understand, now i'm impressed when i see some of them doing a really fast fingerpass in each hand.
