haha...i've tried doing the fingerpass with drumsticks...it's a lot easier
FinalFantasyFanatic - April 20, 2006 07:43 AM (GMT)
Hold it with your Index and middle finger on the top phalanx(Im used to the top) keep the ring finger and pinky closed and pivot your finger so the pen goes towards your ring finger, then lift your ring finger up, it should bring it between the middle and ring, then do the same with the pinky. Im still a newb at this so tell me if im wrong.
lunasol - April 20, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)
the fingerpass is a really easy trick to learn and understand, however, extremely difficult to master. i started with it because it seemed the easiest for me. it just takes a lot of practice to get it up to the speed that you desire (just like every trick). i figured it out after watching the video off of pentrix.com in slow motion.
http://www.pentrix.com/videos/video.php?v=fingerpass.swfgood luck and don\'t give up
Ivan the Terrible - April 20, 2006 08:25 PM (GMT)
It's really simple, judt a bit tricky when you start. I have no problems with it, cause i was doing it 1 year before refinding penspinning.
yessir - April 23, 2006 04:04 AM (GMT)
is der such thing as fing pass harmonic ...cuz if der is i could do it real well ...actually dats da first trick i could do since i already noe how 2 do it even b4 i got into pen spinning lolz :D
sketching - April 23, 2006 04:07 AM (GMT)
Fingerpass Harmonic would be a combo of Fingerpass Normal and Fingerpass Reverse. So, yes, there such a thing.
Gas Meter - May 14, 2006 09:31 PM (GMT)
this is driving me nuts, i've been at the fingerpass for ages now and i can do it, but quite slow, i need to learn to speed it up. does anyone have any tips on how to speed it up, keeping it smooth. thanks :)
RippDrive - May 14, 2006 10:56 PM (GMT)
Are you doing the method where you slide the COP so the pen is vertical between two fingers durring the pass? That helps a lot.
Try doing it with a double pencil or practice dowel and go very slowly but work on making is completely smooth. Even a rather slow fingerpass can look alright if done smoothly.
slickhare - May 14, 2006 11:32 PM (GMT)
i was lucky enough to start PS with a solid fingerpass. i actually figured it out myself believe it or not. basically just practicing it a lot is how i got it smooth. do a harmoic very often (i.e. up and down the hand. then backwards. then go down the inside and up the outside)
lunasol - May 15, 2006 12:16 AM (GMT)
the only thing that helped me get it faster was a lot of practicing...like...i know people say not to do this, but i walked and did the fp a lot...just practice practice practice...don't give up :) you'll get it
good luck
sliPrix - May 15, 2006 12:49 AM (GMT)
I've been having the same problem, but I basically started teh FP like a week ago. So you say start slow, and practice practice practice...I'll give it a shot.
RippDrive - May 15, 2006 01:24 AM (GMT)
Only a week? I have been doing it for two months and still feel like I'm going really slow. Good luck man but understand it does take a long time to get really fast. It's not a technique problem, your fingers are just slow and stupid :P
zepiroth76 - May 15, 2006 02:57 AM (GMT)
pratice each pass until you get them smooth enough, then combine them all.
I can do the passes somewhat smooth, but pretty slow
Quota - May 15, 2006 03:22 AM (GMT)
i think what the above poster said was right(sorry bad short term memory)
practice each by itself
the way i do it though
pass 12-23>pass 23-12
it works pretty good makes it smooth there
then i move on to the pinky
i notice in kams fingerpass vid theres a slight pause from pinky to middle 34-23
and the way he did it was moved up his hands to smoothen it out
i suggest doing that too
i think i got a smooth fingerpass now
ive been practicsing for days straight
lunasol - May 15, 2006 03:36 AM (GMT)
the only problem with pass 12-23 > pass 23-12 is that the COP moves way too much towards one end of the pen...with me just practicing the fingerpass itself (down/up all in one) for a week or two got me to where i could do one rep (down/up) per second...(friend timed me...did 6 reps in 6 seconds)
RippDrive - May 15, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
He probably means pass 12-23 > pass 23-12 reverse which is actually a pretty good way to practice passes.

but i do what u say to sometimes
Sfsr - May 23, 2006 03:08 PM (GMT)
i started training FP this weekend, and it's already getting quite smooth ^^
i just keep spinning it, wherever i go :P in class, on the buss, right now :D just, keep spinning i guess ^^
also: check the tips in

So, my question is, is it OK to learn the fingerpass after the TA? I read on here that it is one of the hardest fundamentals, but I get it the most. I think ill move onto sonic and charge after this one. So what do you guys think?
Thanks!
-Alex
UnEmploymentDude - September 26, 2006 05:16 AM (GMT)
There are no set rules on learning, just learn whatever is comfortable with you.
vicgotgame1 - September 26, 2006 05:20 AM (GMT)
yes it is and there really is no order to learn in. I learned the Twisted Sonic first then the Sonic, then TA, etc. and im doin fine right now.
Bobr - September 26, 2006 10:48 AM (GMT)
I think fingerpass it's easyest trick ever, u can learn it in 3-5 minutes :) But if u wont mastered it, u must training veeeeeery long time (more than month). And the hrdest fundamental is charge, I laern when i can do all fundamental and some advenced tricks.
eReBu5 - September 26, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)
Personally, I learned TA first, then charge, which led to sonic and variations, etc...
I've only just started to work on the fingerpass (I can do it, but it's uuurgly.)
Alex7 - September 27, 2006 01:33 AM (GMT)
Cool! So after a day of practice at school I got better and faster (though my hand is killing me). It still looks ugly, but maybe after a month or so itll look nice and smooth, hopefully.
Hullmo717 - September 29, 2006 01:47 PM (GMT)
Yeah I expect that that could still take more than a month. I've been practicing fingerpass far longer than anything else (probably a couple of years) although not as seriously and I still have a choppy link in pass fall -> pass rise and vice versa.
Dark Angel-REX - October 8, 2006 12:44 PM (GMT)
Finger pass is seriously easy to understand how to do it man, but it takes long time to master it.
Well i have been doing it for only 6 days and i can do it real fast...
Advice for fingerpass:
Use long pen that has a lot of weight on both of the edges of the pen. This way there are enough momentum to spin good.
Simulate by handycapping it with another hand. spin it until your fingers memorizes it and then try to do it with out handycap.
I recommend doing it clockwise first...i cant do counter clock wise yet.

Yep. I'd recommend learning it at the same time as the other tricks - once you have the basics down (which won't take long) it's just a matter of practicing it inbetween learning Charge + Sonic!
The King - October 12, 2006 04:23 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't waste a lot of time trying to master fingerpass.... Well maybe its time for me not to have the same avatar as ratboy.

This was compiled from a few Fingerpass threads. The advice was kept, the off-topic bits were removed.
Dark Angel-REX - November 2, 2006 10:11 AM (GMT)
Yo I do realize that this thread is old, but since it's sticky, i gonna say few things on how to get fingerpass good and smoother:
1-use your other hand to get it:
Use your spinning hand to spin, and use your other hand to get the motion in movement memory.
2-Use long pen first:
Always use long and heavy pens first after getting to know the motion. The pen should be thin enough to fit on your finger, but more than 35cm. then to 30cm, then to 25cm which is the goal.
3-You pen:
You pen should have alot of weight on each edge of the pen. this would make u get more momentum.
4-Practice:
You can NEVER seriously NEVER get fingerpass only in two day. It took me more than three weeks to get it. DOn't lose your hope just because you can't get it down in one week. Even if you practice the whole day without doing anything else, your finger would just get tired and wont let you spin good.
5-After that:
If you learned fingerpass clockwise first, then move to counter-clockwise...HOWEVER, dont practice both of them at once. you fingers would get screwed up.
yo, it may be updated someday...
EXfever - November 2, 2006 10:46 AM (GMT)
the key is to make use of the MOMENTUM
practise doing fingerpassing thruout your fingers as fast as you can and eventually your hands will work together and produce a real nice and fast fingerpass
tohxinzhan29 - November 2, 2006 11:02 AM (GMT)
Hey rish, you don't really need a tutorial. The fingerpass is very easy to learn. The hard part is making it smooth. For me, I can do it smoothly but I keep getting stalled slightly at 34.
kasra12321 - November 5, 2006 05:02 AM (GMT)
I've been doing it for 3 weeks and i'm faster than alot of people. For me, practicing with heavy pens helped. my fingfer pass is soo smooth and faast.
angelzcraze - November 5, 2006 05:12 AM (GMT)
Yea, i used to do Fingerpass rev like when you start to learn rev sonic immediately after you learn sonic. But after two days of practice, i slowly was able to get it.... now i can do it at 80% speed and smoothness as my normal fp..... which i don't think is smooth...... because i also get slightly stalled at 34.
fitzgeraldhimself - November 5, 2006 08:18 AM (GMT)
Tips on a better fingerpass--
Spin closer to your finger-tips--it makes it faster and easier to spin and also feels better.
Perfect it at the slowest possible speed you can do. If you can get perfect linkage and passes with no pauses (everything at the same constant speed) at a slow speed then it will be a lot easier to do it at a fast speed.
A lot of people have no foundation and then try to go fast and they end of going fast but it looks very shitty/newbish and rough.
Learning to go fast comes from perfecting the slow
smig - February 24, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
even when i try this slow the pass from 34-23 is hard for me. i cant get my second finger out far enough to get the pen
Simån - February 24, 2007 03:37 PM (GMT)
PentrixTry that...
quebes - February 26, 2007 12:30 AM (GMT)
i got the same probably cuz i got really really really shitty fingers so if i want to do that pass i kinda do it like a twisted sonic and ill try out that exercise maybe it work :walrus:
