Title: Sonic Reverse

Flip - January 15, 2006 07:47 AM (GMT)
I've been trying to figure out the Sonic Reverse lately but i cant even get the initial spin. I have watched the Turtlespin video alot but i still cant get it. I tried learning the reverse charge to but i cant do those either.

kaisen - January 15, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
concentrate on bending the entire middle finger in; it's the most important part of the trick.

reverse charge is not a pre-requisite, but it makes learning the reverse sonic a heckuva lot easier.

TurbulentTurtle - January 15, 2006 10:25 AM (GMT)
Think about it like this. You're clipping the center of the pen with your index and ring fingers after having released the pressure from your thumb flap. Try to keep your middle finger out of the way like Kaisen said. Just keep practicing hard and you'll get it.

Flip - January 17, 2006 05:27 AM (GMT)
could someone explain how to apply pressure using the thumb flap/ index and middle, because i dont think im doing it right because the only way i can pressure on the pen is to put my wrist and fingers at a weird angle.

sketching - January 17, 2006 06:17 AM (GMT)
I didn't learn Sonic Reverse using Thumb pressure.

It's much easier to just use your fingers by themselves, there are less digits to worry about.
If you haven't already, you should first to do Sonics normal without using the Thumb.

patte - January 17, 2006 03:04 PM (GMT)
use gravity that might help

,
if you don't know what i'm sayin, get your hand in an angle so your hand is in line with the floor and ceiling so when you do a reverse sonic the pen just falls into place practice that then practice normally

chanman123 - January 18, 2006 12:02 AM (GMT)
i used what rob did and it helped me....also without the thumb pressure

hold the pen at the end, now bend your middle finger down and transfer it to 23. If you practice this, it'll get smoother and then you don't even need to bend your middle finger...your index will work by itself

Flip - January 27, 2006 05:02 AM (GMT)
whenever i try a rev sonic it spins like an index around? what am i doing wrong?

TurbulentTurtle - January 27, 2006 05:19 AM (GMT)
Try putting your ring finger up and intercepting the pen. Kinda like a clipping action with fingers 1 & 3 when you're bringing the pen down.

jSA041 - January 31, 2006 11:50 PM (GMT)
I never learned Reverse Charge and i can do reverse sonic perfectly; it's not a prerequisite

Try starting with the end of your pen that is covered in your palm pointing downwards

Ive never thought of using the thumb to apply pressure to help until i had already learnt the trick and someone showed me; i guess you can try that if it helps you, but remember: The thumb is a training wheel, you wont be able to go from 12 to 23 to 34 very smoothly with the thumb in the way.

ader10 - February 8, 2006 01:53 AM (GMT)
Hello. I was wondering how many people could do a Sonic 34 and a Sonic Reverse because I am having trouble making it nice and smooth, so if anybody could give me pointers that would be nice.

xz64 - February 8, 2006 01:54 AM (GMT)
Heres a video with Sonic 34-23 and Sonic Reverse 23-34
clip 0001.avi

ader10 - February 8, 2006 02:03 AM (GMT)
That looks like it to me.
Are there 2 rotations in the video or just one?
What I am doing has one.

xz64 - February 8, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
Both tricks have one rotation.
The whole entire video has two.

Eso - February 13, 2006 01:53 PM (GMT)
Hey! I found out recently how to do the reverse Sonic. Here are some of my thoughts...

I found that the reverse Charge COULD help but the way I learned it is by holding the pen in 12, you use finger 1 to somewhat "rock" back and forth to get a feel for the motion. You want the pen to be traveling downward and in a circular motion so keep trying that until you get the pen to do just that. The way the pen travels is just like the regular Sonic. This will seem odd at first because it's in reverse motion and your fingers aren't used to it quite yet. Just keep practicing this motion slowly and having the pen travel through the fingers.

Also, let gravity do some work. Right when you do the initial push of the pen, when it goes about halfway (the pen should be aligned vertically, ie pointing to the floor and ceiling) you should "let go" of the pen. What I mean by "let go" is to just let the pen keep going on its own accord rather than using any other fingers to manipulate it. If you're having trouble understanding that, take a regular Sonic. You also "let go" of the pen when it travels to a certain point. This is what gives the jump effect. Use this analogy to get an idea of what should happen in the reverse Sonic.

Some guys in here said that the middle finger should bend in a lot, or that the middle finger doesn't move hardly at all. I think it moves the same way as in a regular Sonic. The only thing that really matters here is the initial push with finger 1. Once that is done, I think your fingers should be positioned just like it would in a Sonic.

Hope this helps somebody.

RAV3N - February 27, 2006 08:46 AM (GMT)
the friend that taught me the sonic reverse told me to use gravity to get it to drop.that and use the motion of your fingers. so kinda let it "drop" into the next finger pairing.

fierywin - March 17, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
I had trouble learning reverse sonic too.. when i started psing.

Bascially, i did reverse sonic in this way: pen in between 1 & 2.. bend 2 let the pen drop down, and unbend 2.. in this way the pen would be bewteen 2 and 3. This is a crappy sonic reverse.. but after practing for sometime.. i kinda get the reverse charge motion.. maybe u can try it out.

penspinning_noob - March 23, 2006 01:37 AM (GMT)
try to like..bend your finger and use your other fingers for support...a little bit of wrist motions helps too

ireallydontcarewatthisnameis - March 23, 2006 03:20 AM (GMT)
lol for the reverse learn reverse charge....

Ivan the Terrible - March 24, 2006 03:24 PM (GMT)
First: be sure to understand the sonic motion, so you know how the pen should go.

Second: look at some vids and try to figure it out, you feel really god if you figure it out by yourself

I first kinda tried to throw the pen back and then clipped it with my index and ring finger and bringed it down to the sonic starting position. Just practice after that.

Here's a vid of me.
And zippy videos really make the quality suck.

Is it more easier to start to learn Rev sonic by doing it like this

Rev Sonic 12-23 or Rev Sonic 23-34

ty

sketching - March 25, 2006 05:31 AM (GMT)
It was easier for me to do Sonic Reverse 12 than 23. I used to momentum and rotation of the first Sonic to help with the second.

A_C - March 26, 2006 11:11 PM (GMT)
hm...try learning charge reverse first..that would help alot

Spintrickstr - April 23, 2006 10:31 PM (GMT)
with thumb:Press down the pen with your thumb to make pressure for the sonic rev

thumbless:practice charge rev12 then use the push of the charge rev12 to do a sonic rev

zepiroth76 - May 14, 2006 02:44 AM (GMT)
the way i learned it was to first just hold it in 12, then do a reverse pass, but hit the back of your finger instead of going to the front of it, stop, hold the pen with 13, then move your middle finger in.

sorry if that's confusing, but that's is best way i could explain it.

Zombo - May 14, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)
easiest way to learn: hold the pen in 12, then use your thumb to push the pen down to 23. You will need to fold your middle finger. Repeat 50+ times then try without the thumb.

Toast - May 14, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
if you still dont get the motion, jsut learn rev charge 12

if you know that, sonic rev will come to you in 10 minutes.

rish132004 - May 18, 2006 11:38 PM (GMT)
yea just learn the charge reverse, it shud really help, trust me on this one

Toast - May 23, 2006 09:24 PM (GMT)
only move your top finger in charge rev

well not ONLY but when you master it, the top finger should move more than the bottom one.

RippDrive - May 23, 2006 11:45 PM (GMT)
One thing I found helped a little for learning charge reverse was to flip my hand upside down so my index is on the bottom. It's a little awkward but give it a try.

sketching - June 8, 2006 04:17 PM (GMT)
Sonic Reverse is more about letting the pen fall down with gravity. Your fingers really only need to make the circular motion that makes the pen fall easier. I didn't do it, but learning Charge Reverse would probably make it easier to learn Sonic Reverse. Once you have the circular motion, you just need to position your fingers in the same way that you do for a Sonic Normal: Index and Ring fingers out, Middle finger in. The pen should bounce off the Ring finger in the same way that it bounces off the Index finger during the Sonic Normal.

Bajamba - June 9, 2006 02:11 AM (GMT)
Well if this helps at all, the way I learned to do a Sonic Reverve was basically hold the pen in between 1 & 2 and have it pointing the oposite direction as the Sonic Normal. I would then hold the pen back with my thumb on my other hand similarly to the way you hold it with your thumbflap when doing Sonic Normal.

I would then release the pen from my thumb and it would pretty much go from there. After doing that for a while I could do it without my thumb by holding it back on the side of my palm. After a while of that, I guess my fingers just had gotten used to the movement of the pen and their own movement that I now need neither thumb nor palm to help do the trick... I'll include a couple pictures if this was way too confusing.

By the way, would anyone recommend learning the Sonic Reverse this way? Or is this a bad way to do it?

EDIT - I would also like to mention that I learned the Sonic Reverse 23-34 this way as well.

EDIT - I would just like to note, that After practicing this way enough I am able to perform the Sonic Reverse without anything other than my 1,2, or 3 to hold the pen.

Eso - June 9, 2006 03:00 AM (GMT)
Personally, I think that's a bad way to do it. You're supposed to be using finger movement to start the spin. What you're doing is trying to find a substitute for the thumbflap, but that limits you a lot.

Here's how I learned the Sonic Reverse: I hold the pen between fingers 1 and 2. The pen is slanted down, meaning that the back end of the pen is slanted down.
I bend my index finger slightly, then straighten it back. When I straighten it, I also make it go to the side, which makes the pen travel in a circular path. Afterwards, gravity pretty much takes care of the rest, but you still have to position your fingers accordingly. What I mean by that is, you know how you do a normal Sonic? Remember how the fingers are positioned? Try rewinding the Sonic and that's how the fingers should be positioned, i.e. middle finger shifted forward to allow the pen to continue through.

Hope this all makes sense. The part about gravity taking care of the rest is a bit misleading. While it's true that gravity does continue the circular motion, you still need to make your fingers go in the right positions, otherwise they will block the pen and you'll mess up.

FallenSeraph - June 11, 2006 05:34 AM (GMT)
i learned rev sonic with jus the first half of charge reverse(still cant a full one). all u need to learn it how to start the pen rotating in the reverse direction and then bend in ur middle finger lik a normal sonic. to get the reverse motion, first try doing it with a big wrist movement or somehting. its kinda a flick away from u with the index finger. play around with it, it took me a long time, and i still cant do it that well

RandomNewb - June 29, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
Learn reverse charge and then put your finger down. Do it sideways as well and move your hand with the motion.

Personally, I learned reverse charge and it was way easier. Actually, I think I learned both... But I just kept doing it and it happened. If you're totally confused about hand motion look at some tutorials first before you try it out. Better than learning backflip anyway.

wat should i practice with RSVP,RSVP MX, or Bictory

xz64 - October 12, 2006 02:20 AM (GMT)
That should be up to you

darkaznrazier - October 12, 2006 02:22 AM (GMT)
should i use a fast reverse charge to get it over my middle finger

also wat grip should i use to hold the tip on the MX

xz64 - October 12, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
You should find a way to build up pressure between your index and middle fingers so it is like building up pressure for a charge reverse. The pressure should help you perform a sonic reverse.

edit: also, try wrapping teflon tape around the tip of an rsvp and then screw the HGG tip on it. another method would be to superglue the HGG tip onto the rsvp.
