Title: Double post disabled

Zombo - October 20, 2006 04:09 AM (GMT)
New implementation disables double posting. Any potential double post is appended to your original post instead.
Try it in the test zone if you want.

*disabled for now

BTW, Mods and admins still can double-post as shown by this post :devildance:

what if you win a tackon game and you post a new trick? some people wouldn't know you updated it ..

The King - October 20, 2006 04:19 AM (GMT)
Whats so bad about double posting anyway?

xz64 - October 20, 2006 04:20 AM (GMT)
its similar to spamming; it increases your post count for no reason

Zombo - October 20, 2006 04:21 AM (GMT)
if this should happen, then I think you have to delete your old post, copy everything from the old post + whatever you want to say. It will bump your topic.

@david, it is good etiquette to post only once and wait for replies. posting several times make you seem like you are impatient. It's like typing WITH CAPS ON.

Erm... so we can delete our posts now?

Edit: nope

Zombo - October 20, 2006 04:41 AM (GMT)
changed the code. Now double-posting will append your post to your first post.

UnEmploymentDude - October 20, 2006 04:59 AM (GMT)
Ummm, I just tested it out in spammer's bin, the post count still goes up. Its hidden, this wont help stop spammers at all.

EDIT: nevermind it would, we wont see two of the same posters, since post count mean nothing here.

TayYH89 - October 20, 2006 05:06 AM (GMT)
Ok, since for double-posting, posts are still counted, it doesn't solve the problem, does it?

god - October 20, 2006 06:42 AM (GMT)
i've seen this at other boards... if they want to dp to get post counts, at least its much easier to delete/scroll past this way... i guess the only way to bump a game is to pm someone

Eriror - October 20, 2006 06:50 AM (GMT)
Hm.. I saw some posts got deleted that weren't double posts.. Or it's something else.

Nope, they weren't deleted, they just disappear from the thread.
But you still can see them while the page is loading, and also in the "post reply" page.
Yeah, zombo, please solve this problem. I think it came with the disabling double post coding or something.

Edit: can't see my post, until I edit it...

Edit: heh... still can't see my post. :banghead:

kensai - October 20, 2006 09:19 AM (GMT)
I tried it out in the Testing Zone, and this was what I found out:

Subsequent posts after the first are added on to your first post on the thread page. But in the reply page (at the bottom that shows the running thread) the posts displayed are NOT added on to your first post; instead they are broken up into their individual posts.

EDIT:One more thing...as Vulkron pointed out, you can only edit your first post, not the subsequent ones, even if they are collated together with the first.

TayYH89 - October 20, 2006 09:44 AM (GMT)
In other words, posts still counts, whether it is double-posted or not.
Hence, it in fact makes "spamming up post count" easier to hide. No?

Zombo - October 20, 2006 12:41 PM (GMT)
hmm ok it doesn't work very well, I'll take it out for now and modify it.

sorry for the inconvenience.

Apology not accepted. :angryfire:
