Title: Stop post counts in Introduction

kensai - November 2, 2006 04:22 PM (GMT)
I say 'No'.

pentrixter - November 2, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
1. in ucpsb, people get high post counts one way or another. they'll find other ways to get their posts counts up even if posts in the intros section didnt count. it would be fun to see how many hang around intros if posts there didnt count.

2. kensai, if you're in favor of status quo, why did you even bring this up?

This has nothing to do with status quo; all I'm saying is that posts should not contribute to overall post count in the Introductions forum. The incentive to post there should come from personal initiative/desire to welcome new members, not raise one's post count.

UnEmploymentDude - November 3, 2006 12:12 AM (GMT)
Yeah I'm going with no, even though post count doesn't make a difference on the board.
Other than that, the intro place does gets spammed. So no vote for me.

erm read the post wrong. thought the question was 'whether post count should be eliminated from posting in intro section' so when you sed no, you were favoring status quo. nvm.

FallenSeraph - November 3, 2006 06:14 AM (GMT)
post count doesnt matter. its jus a stupid thing for retards to spam up the place. and kensai u know who im talking about, and its not me =P

Mats - November 3, 2006 06:18 AM (GMT)
It looks like most people don't think so. However, I would say that all posts outside of the spammer's bin should count, since that is the only place where spam, a certain amount at least, should not be deleted. All posts in other areas should be relevant to the topic. I feel any posts in the intro thread contribute to the welcome, so why not count them?

UnEmploymentDude - November 3, 2006 06:29 AM (GMT)
Actually most people don't want the post to count, reread Kensai's question.

Again, allow me to reiterate that the incentive to post there should come from personal initiative/desire to welcome new members, not raise one's post count. I don't care for my overall post count and I'm sure a lot of people don't care either. But for the remaining few that do care about their post count, welcoming means upping their post count, and while I feel that a bit of off-topicness in the Intro forum can add fun and foster camaraderie, such people should not be rewarded for getting away with such posts.

Mats - November 3, 2006 12:09 PM (GMT)
However, if you do not care about post count, then it does not matter, so long as people are not posting spam in the introductions forum to up their post count. I hope you don't count my 'yo' as being spam. That is just my way of welcoming most members.

In the end though, it is content or posts rather than the number of them that will get you respected on the board, and spamming is much frowned upon by almost all outside of the spammer's bin (or more specifically, the most replies thread). I say, let them have their post count, so long as they don't spam.

They're in The Sandbox after all...

Although Manipulations should count, that is if people want post count to keep going.

Mats - November 3, 2006 12:38 PM (GMT)
it's the sandbox, not the spambox Vulkron. it is lighter hearted, but the area for spam is clearly labeled, with the word SPAMmer's bin.

I don't see any reason why post count should be totally disabled. I do however see reason for posts in the spammer's bin not being counted.

And you Vulkron, you need to spam topics less, seriously.

pentrixter - November 4, 2006 11:38 AM (GMT)
i think kensai is talking about the nature of the intro forum. the nature of the intro forum is to welcome people. but when welcoming a noob is as easy as "welcome." then vulkron is gonna start filling up the place with shit. we should have the incentive ourselves to go and welcome noobs.

BUT

you (mat) have a point too. since no one cares about their post count anyway, it doesnt really matter. i mean, in a good board, ntros shouldn't count. but in a forum like this, something that is suppose to motivational like post counts, become "unmotivational" so in the end it doesnt matter.

Zombo - November 4, 2006 02:08 PM (GMT)
ok it's been changed, I guess it makes sense since UPSB intro didn't count. Don't know why it did here.

kensai - November 4, 2006 02:49 PM (GMT)
Thanks

axeljm91 - November 5, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
i agree i dontt hink they should

Mats - November 5, 2006 03:33 AM (GMT)
A lot of people are glad, but they don't all post here.

Could a mod delete this and the last post?

Honestly axelfm91, don't become worse than Vulkron, and he's bad enough. Tone the spam down.

edited yxtay. He does say he's been around a while though.

Hmm... What exactly are you driving at? axelfm91 is pretty new to the board and may be unfamiliar to the rules and guidelines generally followed by most members. He should not be compared to Vulkron, who has been in this board for quite long. It is important that we give the newcomers some allowance so that they feel more welcomed.
