Title: Palm Spin
xz64 - February 4, 2006 04:12 AM (GMT)
How do you start a non-FL palm spin?
tokuwee15 - February 4, 2006 04:33 AM (GMT)
The most common ways to start a palm spin is by either a ta or an inverse sonic, but other creative procedures may be applied (spider spin, aerials, etc.)
Kaoru - February 4, 2006 04:53 AM (GMT)
i usually do my palm spin from a reverse TA
tokuwee15 - February 4, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
then that would be a palm spin reverse...unless you can somehow counter the change of direction on the palm.
Kaoru - February 4, 2006 06:05 AM (GMT)
ohh sorry i meant palm spin reverse my bad
but i think its easier to do than regular palm spin
xz64 - February 4, 2006 06:16 AM (GMT)
I don't understand how a TA can go below your thumb. Can you explain it a little bit more or perhaps provide a video?

hmm yo can catch it between 12,23,34 if it is taht you mean :P
killsburydohboy - February 4, 2006 02:47 PM (GMT)
In Kam's superhandz vid he does it, you basically do a ta and then open your palm and it spins on it, its really hard to time it right though. Here's the link

aaah ... you are talkin about palmspin ... haha lol never mind my reply :P
chanman123 - February 4, 2006 05:35 PM (GMT)
For my palmspin variation i throw the pen in the air using a regular TA and when it comes down...it spins on my palm....
kams version it doesn't fly up in the air..
check it

xz64 - February 4, 2006 05:38 PM (GMT)
So throwing the pen in the air with a TS is like doing a TS Riser?
tokuwee15 - February 4, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
i suppose...but linking a palm spin after a ts riser isnt really professional. :P
and heres a how-to palm spin something that kam wrote about 4 years ago

I know two ways of getting the pen into palm spin, but I'll explain the one that is probably easier to understand.
First of all, I do this Palm Spin in CCW direction, so the trick I use to start it is the 360 Deg Normal. First you do a low 360 Deg. Normal (as opposed to making the pen spin closer to the tips or near the middle of the Thumb). After a full rotation, the pen should be close to the space in between your Thumb and Index finger with the COP near the base of the Index finger. At this time, you have to do three things simultaneously (by the sounds of it, you probably already guessed that this is going to be the hard part).
One, you have to twist your wrist so the palm is facing up. Two, open your hand (your Thumb should be straighten out). Three, raise your whole hand up a little (this is to make up for the height difference, since the pen was previously spinning on top of the Thumb).
If everything was done correctly, the COP should have been transferred to the base of your index finger and the pen will keep its momentum and spin there. With regular pens (like an RSVP), I can keep the pen spinning for a full rotation. With long pencils, you can probably do two or three rotations before catching the pen.
The catch is pretty easy. You can catch the pen with your whole hand if you wish, but I prefer catching it in between my index and middle fingers, so I can connect a Reverse Sonic or a Rev FingerPass. |

Gets the Job done though
I never liked Neo-Sonic to Palmspin Rev

check out kam's penspinning video on superhandz.com.

something else on palmspin
CPC - March 14, 2006 04:35 AM (GMT)
You can use inverse shadow to start the spin.
SiLenT.JeaLouSy- - March 15, 2006 05:12 PM (GMT)
Thanks, the search feature doesn't seem to be working, also I'm pretty lazy to go to the next page lol.
Cammergon - June 5, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
I saw this trick in some vis and I tried it, but dont know how to do it.
can anyone help?
sketching - June 5, 2006 06:02 PM (GMT)
You can do a TA. Instead of catching the pen, rotate your hand so that the palm is facing up and have the pen move into the palm.
Michael - June 5, 2006 06:09 PM (GMT)
or you can do a fl TA and instead of going around the thumb you place it so that it spins on your palm
chanman123 - June 5, 2006 07:13 PM (GMT)
There are many many ways to get into a palmspin.
Ts Aerial
Fl TA reverse
Fl TA
Neosonic
So many possibilities.
I suggest starting out with a TA then opening your palm.
Ivan the Terrible - June 5, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
For a reverse palmspin you can do a reverse TA and then kinda open your palm so it spins on it.
Toast - June 5, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
so...the cath is like just..
a grab?
chanman123 - June 5, 2006 10:26 PM (GMT)
It can be a grab, or it usually slides inbetween the fingers, ending in like 34 or 23 or something like that.
RandomNewb - June 6, 2006 02:14 AM (GMT)
i forgot ps-728's website, but he has a nice video if him doing like 5.5 palmspin and then reverse and fake too or maybe that's sunrise?

wowowo chucko cant do palmspin? =O
well i cant do it either lol
xz64 - June 6, 2006 10:08 PM (GMT)
Kam made a post about a palmspin (although I don't think this is the one I read before when I was learning palmspin)
| QUOTE (Kam from Pentrix) |
| Do a ThumbAround but don't catch it. Let it keep spinning until the COP is close to the base of your Index finger. At that exact time, you need to turn your hand clockwise (fairly fast) so the palm is facing up (if you don't do that, the Thumb will get in the way). The COP will shift to the base of your Index finger and the pen should remain spinning there. Easy, huh? |
tokuwee15 - June 6, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
is this it xz64? ;)

yessir - July 7, 2006 11:26 PM (GMT)
i understand the basic idea of palmspin but when i try to do it ...it doesnt spin haha
how do you start the trick??
do you start in thumbspin form??
FooK - July 7, 2006 11:33 PM (GMT)
i always start off with scissorspin, but i dont tend to do a mass spin palmspin, just like 0,5 or 1,5 spin so it looks good in combos.
Michael - July 7, 2006 11:44 PM (GMT)
well the most commonly known palmspins too me are ones that start with a ta or a fl ta like in the vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBrPZvDygzIfirst one: starting with fl TA
second one: starting with TA
xz64 - July 8, 2006 12:08 AM (GMT)
tokuwee15 - July 8, 2006 12:47 AM (GMT)
also, please do not ask for the 'breakdown' of palmspin, or any other trick. there is no such thing. breakdowns are only applied to combos, not tricks.
JooJoo - September 1, 2006 12:55 PM (GMT)
Hi, any tuts or tips for doing palm spins? I've seen vids but i cant understand where the "Push" comes from. Is it like a FL TA motion with a hand tilt?
RandomNewb - September 1, 2006 05:32 PM (GMT)
1. practice strech/bend hand out straight, if you hold out your hand it is not exactly "straight", it is still curved, you have to make your hand straight, practice making straight like that, your finger will look like they are curved backward a little
http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/6386/picture1iu2.jpg2. now try put pen on your hand and spin it, if you have your hand right the pen will spin fluently instead of stopping
http://media.putfile.com/pal-99http://media.putfile.com/aasdad3. now try to do thumbaround/reverse and open your hand "bent" straight
OK! we do! get! :D
PLEASE COMPARE this! right to wrong:
http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/3433/picture1sk5.jpgyour finger are curled in is wrong, it must be bent straight!
to answer your question you can get into palmspin from anywhere, indexaround, sonic, etc., that is the push!
however, most people do reverse thumbaround and open hand!
