Title: buddy spin retractable revolution
ed sect mobile - November 19, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
Everyone loves a retractable so I guess I'll submit my 2 cents doods.
PENS NEEDED: rsvp (cap only), papermate visibility, papermate profile (cappable style)
This mod needs no cutting, gluing, or taping. A little bit of sanding/filing whichever you perfer.
Pros:
It's easy to make. Has a good grip for infinities. And of course it's retractable
I think you can access the pens easily.
Cons:
Pre sure you can't put an insert in.
I will post how to make it later.
I think if you have all the pens and look at the photo it is pretty self explanatory
This mod is called bsrr

HIGHER QUALITY
sowwy about the spinning i woulda did more variety but i really suck when im holding a camera in my other hand and looking at the screen not my hand.
I will post length and cop position when i find my god damn ruler.
The back will not come off at all and the rsvp cap fits very tightly and you dont have to pull it or anything to make it work right it looks and works like a regular retractable pen.
EDITI didn't find my ruler but I decided to make a tut anyways.

Step 1
unscrew the front of the papermate visibility remove the spring
step 2
remove the front part of the papermate profile cappable style
step 3
take the cap off your rsvp and break the clip and sand it down like an mx
step 4
take the spring out of a papermate profile retractable
step 5
break the clip off the papermate visibility and sand it down so that the rsvp cap fits over it don't do it too much on mine i barely sanded it so that the rsvp cap actually widened and now it is never able to come off but it is stuck very very tight and snug
step 6
put the profile retractable spring in the front end of the profile cappable then put the visibility spring in
step 7
put the ink in the visibility
step 8
screw the front end of the profile into the visibility its kinda hard. but you can take it off if you ever need to its just a pain in the butthole region
step 9
make sure everything is working right and spin away
if there is something wrong in this tutorial or mod when you make it please tell me and i will do my best to try to help you, you can contact me at.

very nice..i gotta get some visabilitys now! how much do they cost and is there a sub. that i might already have
ed sect mobile - November 19, 2006 04:23 AM (GMT)
I don't know of a sub atm or the price
My friend used to work at Menard's in a department and he quit so he gave me his apron and it had a pen in it. And that just happened to be a visibility.
LittleRaisin - November 19, 2006 05:11 AM (GMT)
I'll definatly be making this as soon as i can get some profile and visibility =/
masterskittle - November 19, 2006 06:25 AM (GMT)
Looks nice :]] Can't wait to comeover and try it.
Donk3y - November 19, 2006 07:42 AM (GMT)
looks almost identical to the mechanical pencil mod i made, cept it looked cleaner, and it was a pencil instead of pen, but yeah simple mods are always fun.

looks nice and definately unique. How heavy is it?
ed sect mobile - November 19, 2006 04:48 PM (GMT)
It is pretty light. Lighter than my MX

Do you need RSVP, Papermate Visibility, Papermate Profile with Cap and a Papermate Profile Retracteble?

well it's not that important I am fairly certain any spring similar to that one will work its just long and skinny.
i only posted pens where you need a main part of it.
fptbaseballspin - November 19, 2006 05:55 PM (GMT)
profile cappable style? you can get them in the US right?
ed sect mobile - November 19, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
Yeah I got mine at Wal-Mart

I made one of these because I had some Visibilities from my very first PS pen shopping trip... they're kinda dear to me in a way... anyway my impressions on the pen:
-Firstly I found the Visibilities at Brooks Pharmacy, which is a local branch of Eckerd Pharmacy... (http://www2.eckerd.com/index.asp)
Info
-I would say the pen is about as heavy as a ComSsa Metalic, just a tad lighter than an MX... it also has about the same weight ration as an MX. Its 19cm long, COP is 9 cm from the back and 10cm from the front... if you wanted it more backheavy you could always put a RSVP grip in the cap...
-The barrel is a bit slicker than an RSVP, which I prefer... makes spins easier, and with the weight mainly at the ends this is quite good for those IMO.
-Sonics, passes, charges, and infinities are all about the same as with an MX... The profile grip I suppose makes infinites more like a CS, but whatever... passes also feel a bit different because the barrel is a bit different but I kinda like it.
Pros
-It's not too hard to make. The hardest part is filing down the Visibility cap enough so the RSVP cap can fit on it.
-Spins quite well, I like the distribution, weight, ballance and feel of it.
-Retractable is very quiet, the double spring reduces noise significantly, though it still does make some... and quite a bit if its extended (though I'm not sure why u would spin it like that...)
-Looks attractive when made properly (see suggestions below), not incredibly so, but at first glance looks like it could be factory made...
-Rather customizable given colors (5 visibility colors I think, and 8 for profiles) and also the ink tube could be switched out, for different feel/color.
-Outsert is likely possible, though it would of course change its spinning...
-I'm not too sure about durrability, but if its made properly, so cracking doesn't occur, I'd say its quite durrable so far... threw it about a bit :P
Cons
-When extended the tip only goes out about 1-2 mm, not a big deal, still writes fine, but it looks strange.
-The RSVP cap sticks out approximately 1.5 mm from the body, where it connects... this is a kinda drastic change, and feels weird at first, but you get used to it quickly.
-You could put in an insert, but only one about 3.5 cm long, which would likely look dumb...
-Very difficult if not impossible to mark COP. (without outsert)
Suggestions
-Use a RzDz cap on the back, as it looks much better and you don't notice how the plastic cracks a bit (if you didn't file enough) as much... (personal preferance)
-File enough so that it fits snugly, but the cap does not crack at all, can be difficult to do...
-Erase the writing on the side (again, preferance)
-You can change the ink tube, to say a tube from a Profile retractable, so you can get colors or a different writing feel. Just clip them to the appropriate length. (same as the visibility tube... has to be more or less exact...)
-(Edit:) Oh yeah, and file down the threads on profile front piece just a tad, makes it go in easier, and can be romoved much easier...
Final Thoughts
I really like the way this thing spins, it just has a nice feel to it...
A very nice pen, that I would suggest to most people if they can get their hands on Visibilities. Otherwise, don't stress over it as it might as well be a retractable MX, though this is a nice, simple substitute for one...

you could always mark it on the ink tube with a permanent marker or something.. if you found out where it was just a suggestion
Donk3y - November 20, 2006 12:56 AM (GMT)
i got everything ready, then realized that i have never boughten a capped Profile....
so when i get one i'll post a brief review as well.

Your welcome :)
You could do that I guess, though when you extended the tip it might cover the line, depending on how large you made it... though again, I don't know why you would spin it like that... besides I hate marked COPs :P
Oh, and I made a second one, now I have a red and a green! Holidays are coming!! lol

Nice, I have an extra RSVP cap and those pens are easy to obtain, very nice pen.
BTW: What is the balance and weights?
ed sect mobile - November 23, 2006 03:51 AM (GMT)
says it all in Eburt's review.
